Welcome to our streaming room and our quest to make it better than it is. It is February right now when we're starting this journey and I don't know how long it's gonna take, but we're gonna chip away at it because our streaming room is a bit of a mess right now. Yeah, it's a very intimidating thing to chip away at, but we figured if we just record this intro, then we have to do it. Yeah, or at least it'll give us like the motivation. So let's start with a little tour of how things are right now. First, if you look to your left, I'd like to point out- Oh my gosh. No, we're starting with the cables right away. We're starting with the truth. I mean, it's all, whatever. Yeah, we're starting with the cables. Look at this, it's insane. When we moved in to this house, we were just like, okay, let's just get it functional as soon as possible so we can start recording. Exactly. And it basically ended up looking like this and it hasn't changed much. One of the reasons why we got this bigger house is so that we can have more storage places to put things and we'll put them in their place. We need to figure out what storage solutions we want, which will be part of this journey. Because right now the storage is the floor. Welcome to one of the piles of cables that are not plugged into anything. Our heart rate monitors in their spot here. You hear us? Attack. Ah! Our headphones. Other things. Ha ha ha ha. In 64 games. Yeah. Very important. The poppers we have pranked each other with. More Cheetos. Yay! Look at everything going on here. This is what we stare at when we're streaming. We have the Cheeto jar. Yeah. And don't worry, we do have more. It will be replenished. Evan's granny wig. I accept in my role as granny, the chef, the killer. The velvet keyboard. Oh, so luxurious. Wow. Now we do have some cool things. Like look at this green screen. Yeah, look at how big that green screen is. Like here, Katelyn, stand next to it. Look at that. Look at how massive that green screen is. I'll bring them into the server room. Don't show this to Linus Tech Tips. We just have like a row of servers here and to help them stay cool, I just added USB fans everywhere. Just kind of like to add circulation. It works for now. We probably won't be fixing this as part of the video. No. I'm just gonna stay as it is until we have even more time. I just want to walk in here and feel relaxed and excited. Yeah, right now I feel sweaty being in here honestly. So I think first off, let's like clear the room of anything that's not necessary, pick up any cables that aren't being used, pick up any devices that aren't being used and get them out of here. And we'll see you guys in a little bit. Well, they'll see us like right now. We're probably gonna go into like a time-lapse. So I will admit, I was here for the beginning of the cleaning. I am seeing it now for the first time after making dinner. It looks good. As is often the case with these things that we put off for so, so long. It took way less time than you would think. I can walk around back here. Y'all wanna hear something nasty? What's that? We haven't really been able to vacuum in here. Oh, there's so many fluffy things. In like eight months. Since we moved in. I have something to admit to you guys. Most of it just ended up out here in the hallway. Yeah, yeah. I haven't really processed a lot of it. It's part of the process. I mean, I did start to put away some things and I'm gathering things like the power things go here. The lights go here. The game things go here. Everything here is now like essential stuff that's being used to run the stream. Essentials only. So it's been about a week and we've been thinking about how to rearrange the room. And I think we're gonna try something pretty drastic. We're gonna move the whole mega green screen from one side of the room to the other. And then we're gonna move all of our desk things over on that wall. So all the tech can be on this side and we can be on the other. We can be on the other. There's two C-stands, but the C-stands couldn't be moved wide enough cause they were hitting the corner. So what we did is we like added extension arms off of the C-stand off to the side. This can fall over at any time. So we'll probably need to improve that as part of this process. I don't know how we're gonna do this cause I'm not even sure how we got it up there in the first place. It's all very, very precarious. Should we unclamp the green screen, roll it up first? Or, or, or. Wait, what? What if we just move the C-stands? No, cause we're gonna remount it with better hardware over there. Okay. Well, where are we putting it then? I think that's just, let's see if we can roll it up. Ugh. Oh, what if we just try taking it off and holding it up above our heads and carrying it out like it's like a trophy or something. Yeah, that's more along the lines of what I assumed we would do. Okay, let's try it. Everything is so wobbly. I know. Okay. Okay, okay. Okay. Ugh. All right, all right. Oh no, I'm gonna lose. I'm not gonna be tall enough. Okay. Oh, it's crinkling pretty bad. So this was wrapped around this like horizontal pole that we just had resting on some light stands. But we got an actual proper paper roll mount and we can mount this to the wall, that way we don't have to have light stands behind us. Yes, Juby, good job. Good job. So, now for that tedious step. So instead of just moving this entire messy wire setup and flipping it around, we are gonna take this moment to organize. Yes. And it's inspired by a recent addition we made to our actual office. So we recently got this cheap shelf as a temporary solution to get our computers up off the ground, because they were sucking in so much cat hair. This is where Katelyn and Joob like to hang out the most. And these were getting... Okay. They're a little bit clogged. I'm being called out. I'm just telling it as it is. And I actually really ended up liking these, specifically because it's nice to attach cables to. So we got a big one. So it's 5 a.m. the next day. Katelyn's asleep. We do have the supervisor checking on our progress right now. I realized that we have a stream tomorrow and this room is completely non-functional right now. So instead of rescheduling the stream, like a normal person, I think I'm gonna go into like hyper mode. It's very different from panic mode, which brings us to a brief woodworking montage. 5 a.m. Katelyn's asleep. I forgot dust collection. Katelyn's asleep. So it's 5 a.m. Katelyn's asleep. 5, 5, 5 a.m. Katelyn's asleep. So we realized something that we meant to do before we moved all of this stuff in place. There's a big nail sticking out of the wall up there. It's one of those things that was behind the green screen before, but also we know if we don't do it now, we're not gonna do it ever. So let's just move this stuff out of the way and paint it. How are we gonna do this? No, we don't, we're just gonna go over it. And then just not drip paint on it. Will the ladder angle that steeply? I think these are pretty tall. Yeah, yeah, yeah, this is a fancy ladder. I mean, it's a fancy ladder, but it's still constrained to rules of ladder. This is why I all stand at the bottom and hold it steady while you go up. Oh, I'm going up. Like a spry little lady. Are we sure this is easier than just moving the table? Yeah, use your hammer. This is how you do it. Okay, okay, okay. Wish me luck. Does it feel wrong? Yes! I feel like I'm gonna fall into a pile of technology. Oh, it was this inner leg. So we just made a new one. Okay, so I need to raise this up so it's just the plastic touching. We're ready to go up the third time and just use marks too. Hey! Yay! Repairs are complete. And now we can continue. All right, so it looks even worse out here and along the hallway, but everything here is looking pretty great. I don't know if it all works yet, so let's get Katelyn to do the test. It's good news. You know that scares me every time you bring the camera to me and the mic. Oh, baby, this is looking clean! Clean! So there's a reason why there's this gap here and that cord. So try to get in there to do some maintenance. Look at that, you fit in between the desks. And then we'll roll it up and we'll be able to expand it for maintenance. Yes, so for now this is like version one of the umbilical. Look at this, look at this. And we're gonna wrap it with this and it's gonna look even better. But before we do that, let's turn it on to make sure that like, I don't like button it all up and then it doesn't work. So, let's start pushing some power buttons. Ready? Magic's happening. Yes, yes! Everything's working! Yeah! Also, this room feels so much bigger. Feels so much bigger. I think that we also need two lights. We've had one light in here for so long, I think we gotta upgrade. Also, also, my paint dried and it's the wrong color. It's the wrong color. How does that make you feel? Upset. I said, you carry this brand, this color name, right? It's not gonna be color matched? You got this one exactly? And they said, yes we do. Do you wanna give that a zoom? No! For everyone? Yeah, it's evident even on the camera. Eh. It looks, I'm not gonna say it looks worse. Cause it does look better. But like, not a lot better. Maybe we'll put some art, some like really tall art. The main issues with the green screen is, the green reflects on you, so you have like a green glow around you, but being so far away from the green screen, oh. I know. Doesn't this room feel so much bigger now? It feels so much bigger. What activities do you wanna do back here? VR. VR, yeah. Is everything on? Yeah, you're looking stylish. Thank you, but you know what could be even more stylish? This part of the room. Like we have this nice space under here, under the window, and I think if we could get a nice storage unit, then we could contain all the stuff that's still in the hallway. So, next up we're gonna try to find a storage unit. Before we do, we actually have a couple IKEA cabinets in another room of different sizes, so let's pull those in, so we can get an idea of what size we want. I'm gonna pull my pants up. Yeah. You don't have to be giving a sneaky peek to anybody. You know, I kind of like that length more than like the longer ones we were thinking of. Well, if we get it wider, the curtains are gonna have to go behind it. Yeah. I don't mind that. I still wanna see the other. Yeah. Definitely too low, but we wanna get like higher legs, so we can vacuum under it anyway, so this height could be good depending on the leg height. I think I like this skinnier. Yeah. You look at it like on camera. Sometimes I don't trust my eyeballs. I think for me, I might like the skinnier because the curtains. When we stream, the curtains are closed, so that we have like more control over the light, but sometimes they are gonna be open, and I feel like this looks a little funnier with them open. Yeah, I think it looks funnier with them open. That's interesting. Yeah. But I think this is a really worthwhile experiment. I think so. Congratulations. Good job. I mean, we don't have a final answer yet, but still, good experiment. Good progress. We have a final decision. We decided that we liked the less wide, but taller cabinets, and we realized, let's just use the ones that we have. They're fine. We don't really need them in the other room. But we're gonna update the fronts, the legs, and maybe the poles, so we are at Ikea. This might be a little too dark. I think it's that one. Yeah, I like this one. Yeah. Get this new cabinet front. Yeah, get that out of there. New cabinet fronts, new drawer fronts. Now, we didn't really find poles or legs we liked, but I feel like this is a huge upgrade. We've already started adding in the streaming essentials. Oh my god! I snuck one out! These are party poppers. If you guys don't know. Rude, sir. When we live stream, we like pranking each other, so I thought I'd get a little bit of that prank energy in. I sent her away to get something we're gonna show you later, so that I could sneak one of those out and get you with it. That's why I asked you to get those. Okay, sir. You just, we're gonna get an extra prank. That was pretty good. And I mean, it's like my own fault for putting these in here. Showing him where they were, so, you know. Anyways, you might notice that there's a giant sheet of white paper taped to our walls. As we were figuring out our lighting, we realized that we need some light straight onto our faces. Having these facing us directly was super harsh, so we wanted something white to bounce the light off us. So we thought, maybe we'll put up some white canvases. Maybe we'll paint the wall white. And then we realized that you can buy custom vinyl decals that are removable. So, we got some of those. And this is gonna be massive. They're so large. We got like an archway, you know, cause that's very trendy right now. So we're trying to like still make it look nice. I'm actually like already surprised about like how cozy this room feels. I think once we put some decorations in it, it's gonna come together. Yeah. Thank you. Oh, this is exciting. Have you ever applied a wall decal before? Nope. Me neither. This is a very unusual one. I think it's nice. I hope it's not shiny. Should we check to see if it's shiny? Yes. It is glossy. It kind of is what it is. Alrighty. It's looking pretty good. I do love that it's like an interesting shape. Yeah. And plus it's so dang functional here. We'll show you guys like the difference between when the lights are off versus shining on this reflector. Yeah. So you can see here how there's deep shadows underneath our eyes. That's because all of the light is coming from above, not illuminating the fronts of our faces. So when we turn on these lights that shine against the white backdrop, we've just put up. So much better. Now we like fit in with our, you know, photo of our workshop. Yeah. We're not actually in the workshop. We're actually. Oh no, we're actually green square. There we are. So this is what the camera actually sees and the software turns it into this. But I think we fit in really great now. Yeah, super functional. And now I think we can move on to the final montage. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. To finish up the room, we wall mounted our lights so we could remove the big C stands, added wood slats to our computer table to make it prettier yet still breathable and top that with a super wide planter box. Then added a cozy floor lamp and some more plants and decor on the cabinet. I just want to take a moment to appreciate this. It's done. It looks so good. I'm also just really proud of us because like this is not an easy type of room to make look good. No. There's a lot of computers. There's a lot of hardware. There's a lot of like odd requirements, like a green screen wall. But I do feel like we did a really good job considering our constraints. Yeah, you know, there's like these little things like you barely even noticed like the sound dampening panels over here. Lights mounted high up. And we've got some like fun like feature pieces like this like gigantic lamp. It makes me really happy being in this room now. And before, it gave me anxiety. It went from one of our like least happy to be in rooms to one of my favorite rooms in the house. Yes, like if we can make this one look nice, I have faith that we can make the other rooms look okay.
