See You Down the Road -- My Recent Full-time RV Life Challenges and a Break (for now)
Hey everybody, it's Robin. This is going to be a completely unedited video taken on my phone
because I know a lot of you have wondered where we were for a month and we're a little bit
concerned. So let me explain. You know, life happens and life happened to us and everything's
fine. You can hear I'm a little bit froggy but I'll get to that in just a minute. So
the last you guys probably knew before we did our last sisters video, we had this great travel
series planned where we were going up the west coast and we're going to show you guys how to
camp without having an RV park reservation. And we had an amazing time getting up there and got
some great footage which remains unedited and I promise you I will show you that. But we got up
to sisters and it was dry, much drier than the year before. And all of a sudden the heat dome
hit us and it was like 106. I mean we go to sisters because it's cooler at that time of the
year and it just got too hot. So we decided to change our plans which involves a lot of planning
you know if you live in an RV especially when things are closed and everybody's headed the
same way and it gets crowded. And so we did that and right after we left, sisters and the
surrounding area had a terrible fire and we hope everybody there is okay. We know that everyone
there was really worried about that. But we tried to go down to Idaho. Idaho was completely covered
in smoke. You could not see barely down the road let alone see the mountains or anything like that.
We were going to go meet some friends at Flaming Gorge but it was like 105 there.
We were going to go over to Wyoming. It was hot there and the smoke was just everywhere. So we
just decided to hightail it back to Colorado where it was still in the high 60s in some areas.
And you know one night we were in a rest area on the way and it was 109 that day.
And I mean we were up till three or four in the morning because we couldn't sleep because it was
too hot. And in the morning it was about 86 I think right at sunrise inside the RV. And we filmed the
narration I think for the video before that. Couldn't run the fans or anything because it
wrecks the audio. But we got that one done and then we headed for Leadville, Colorado to Turquoise
Lake which is one of my favorite places in the world. And it was really great. But when we got
into the RV our kitchen island completely collapsed. And you guys might know we renoed the
entire inside of our RV with Eric from Wonderboom. That all started because the island falls on its
own weight onto the floor. And so that happened. And then we lifted it up and put some blocks under
it. We were pretty proud of ourselves. We sat down you know tried to just take a drink and I
poured some water down the sink and we heard this everywhere. And when we hoisted the island back up
all of the plumbing came apart. Then one of our windows fell off the wall and I'm still when the
sun comes in this direction literally clipping reflectix and towels up there so it doesn't get
too hot in here. So we just had a series of mishaps which completely derailed us. And then
I found out that a friend of mine had died. So I was going to go to the memorial
and I started to feel a little bit sick. So I thought it was best if I didn't go. Doug meanwhile
left to go to a memorial for one of his friends that passed away. It was the year before in an
ATV accident but they were having a memorial for about four days up the mountains. So when I started
to feel sick he just stayed with his friends for a little bit. I thought that you know it was
allergies or you know I was just run down or something. And I was feeling bad and I was
feeling a little bit better so I met my parents because we had something planned. And the next
day I felt bad enough that I drove an hour and I mean I was crappy you guys. I drove an hour
to a Safeway where I could do curbside pickup and I got an over-the-counter COVID test and
it was positive. So I have been vaccinated. I know people are going to ask that. So this is
breakthrough COVID and you know there's anti-vaxxers out there. I mean just keep it to yourself. I
really don't want to hear about it. I feel really lucky that I was vaccinated. Actually we had a
hard time getting vaccinated because we lived full-time in an RV on the road because we were
never in a place for a full month where we could you know get both shots. So when we got to Sisters
we were able to get the Johnson & Johnson shot. And I feel really lucky now because
I mean it's like a bad cold you know. It's like the flu and today was like the first day in a
while that I got up and took a shower and felt well enough to make this video and tell you guys
what was going on. So even with the vaccine you know it's like a gnarly cold. And then my mom
got symptoms and I was just I felt so guilty that I had I wasn't feeling well and I still exposed
her. Luckily she took an over-the-counter test this morning and it was negative. So that's good.
There are other things going around. I don't know maybe I have a combo. I don't know but
here's the deal. It was just like too much was going on and I don't want to do clickbait
videos. I mean I could have done like five clickbait videos but it's just not how I roll
and I don't like drama and I love my RV life and I don't want to give people the impression
that you know RV life sucks. But sometimes life sucks and it's just been you know a rough few
weeks. But everybody here is fine. I am on the mend by tomorrow. I'm sure I'll be great.
I'm in a state park and you know you can see that doesn't suck and Doug is still with his
friends until I don't have symptoms anymore and you know then we're just going to take it from
there. But I'll tell you that you know I was really burning the candle you know at all ends.
I was feeling pretty run down before all this happened and I was trying to reassess
you know how to do things so that I could still give you guys you know great content and I'm still
supposed to be you know getting out some new books at the end of the year and I was just
I was just doing too much and you know I think sometimes the universe gives us some signals you
know like little butterfly wings and then you know a brick wall falls on your head if you don't
listen. So you know getting sick it's not that big of a deal. I mean I'm fine. It's just
like the flu. But it's given me some time to think and I just really need to kind of refocus
and come back and give you guys some content when I'm happy and excited and I don't want to
just throw up some videos to throw up some freaking videos you know which I think most
YouTubers do because they want to keep their channel going and keep it growing and you know
keep the revenue and all that stuff. For me I love this channel and I love our community
and I know you guys have been worried about me so I'm just going to tell you I'm going to
take some time to reassess and get healthy and you know I usually take six weeks eight
weeks off at the end of every year to work on a book and I was planning to do the same this year
but I'm just going to accelerate that a little bit. So I'm not going to be putting out videos
for a little bit but I will be active I promise you on Facebook and Instagram. They're both
you know at creativityrv and I'll also be putting out content on my blog at creativityrv.com
because that stuff I can do on my own timeline you know even if something breaks or I don't feel
well I can still stay in touch with you guys that way. So this is goodbye for now but I'll be back
very soon. Hopefully feeling better with some great new content for you and I'll show you all
the stuff that we have that we haven't shown you and some more stuff that I'm working on.
So I love all of you and I'll miss you for the next few weeks. I hope everyone out there like
me who's having to you know juggle some stuff right now because things are getting weird again
I hope you're all doing well out there and I'll see you soon everybody have happy travels and be
free.
