Hey guys, welcome to my rustic glam study, Decorated for Christmas. Today I'm going to
share tips on how I decorated my tree as well as how you can add simple touches of Christmas.
So I recently made this room over in the spring and if you have not seen that video,
I will link it in an iCard or at the end of the video so that you can see the before
because I think it was a beautiful transformation. So I painted the walls gray and the color is
Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore and then this bookcase and desk was brown originally and I
gave it a coat of a gray paint, a medium gray paint and then I did a brown wash, a very light
brown wash on top. I have the color for the gray that I used on the bookcase because I just used
some leftover paint from other projects. This will be my first Christmas decorating this space
and so I wanted to keep things neutral with pops of green. Now I know it is a muted green
but I do like to keep things soft and simple in this space because I do come in here to relax
and like the sign says, all is calm, all is bright. So I do like to have a more peaceful feel
in the space and I also carried those same colors throughout the Christmas tree.
I wanted this room to have a rustic glam feel so I added a lot of sparkle as well as a lot of
texture. So speaking of sparkle, my mercury glass is back. Over the spring and summer I took away
some of my mercury glass because I knew I would be bringing it back for Christmas. So we'll get
back to the tree in a minute but while we're here at the bookcase I wanted to point out how to add
a few simple touches to your everyday decor. So you guys might recognize my horse. He is decked
out in evergreen sparkle sticks and pine cones and a few glittered ornaments. Normally I put
quite a few more decorations on top of this bookcase but this year I wanted to keep it a
little simple even though this little arrangement does not appear simple at all. So some of the
other shelves I just added simple Christmas decor like the Christmas trees along with books
and a small face and then on this shelf I added a tree and a mercury glass candle holder
and then I just draped some beads over a set of books and added some bottle cups. Now this
particular item here was a very glittered candle holder and to give it a little bit more rustic
appeal I added some twine over the glittered sticks. So you will see birchwood added to this
room several times but here I have some birchwood stick trees and I added some glass pine cone
ornaments in a snow white and a textured silver. So on this side of the room I added this beautiful
art piece that I got from home. It has neutral shades with accents of metallic nicely with my
silver chairs. So if you guys are new here these chairs were originally black and so I had a little
trash to treasure moment and gave them a coat of silver spray paint by Krylon and it gave the chairs
a very fresh and new look. So continuing to keep things neutral and uncluttered I added some
glittered green grass in this vase along with a bowl of pine scented potpourri. So I am still on
the hunt for a nice ottoman for this area but in the meantime I brought up one from my basement
and just covered it with a pattern cloth and added a tray so we would have something to rest our
drinks on. So let's talk about the tree. I want to share a few of the steps that I use to decorate
my tree. So everyone knows that fluffing is a very key part of decorating your tree.
And then next I start out with the lights and I like to add a strand down the center of my tree
that flashes so that you can see a sparkle from within the tree. And then next I'll place
some of these in toward the center of the tree. And then next I will start with the topper.
And so for the topper today I wanted to keep it light and airy with some glittered sticks
and pine cones and then a few birch wood sticks that I got from Hobby Lobby. Now these are faux
sticks. You can see they're very narrow and they have a little bit of glitter on top.
You can also see the flashing lights that I placed in the center. And then I just added a simple owl
just to the base to cover up some of the sticks. So the next thing that I do is add my colored bulbs.
If I am adding an accent color, I like to get those on first. And then the last thing that I
add to the tree is some of the teardrop style ornaments like this one here in glass.
And then I'll add the icicles. So once I get all of my colored ornaments and then my sparkly
ornaments in place, I go ahead and add the rest of my bulbs where I see fit. And let's not forget
Santa. You guys may remember him in one of my recent videos where I shared how to DIY your
personalized Christmas art. Well Santa is here now and he is decked out in his beautiful white
fur coat and hat with brown fur trim and a metallic leather belt. And here's a tip for you.
When you have delicate glass ornaments, you might want to glue your cap onto the ornament and then
that will lessen your chances of it falling off the tree. Guys, that's going to do it for this
video. Stay tuned for a few more close-up pics around the room. Thanks for watching
and I will see you in the next one. Bye-bye!
