2017 Ford Explorer Platinum Ecoboost 4WD In Depth Walk Around

So Ford stopped making the Ford Windstar many years ago and a lot of families have gone to switch to the SUV Ford. This Ford Explorer is perfect for your family, provides a ton of space and gives you the luxury and comfort and fun driving ability that doesn't get offered in a minivan. My name is Christopher and we're right outside of Mike Knapp Ford and today we're going to be unlocking the 2017 Ford Explorer Platinum. This is the top trim line there's a lot to get a lot to go over so let's get to it. So this one is in the standard shadow black looks great with the chrome all throughout the vehicle you can see with the platinum package you do get the chrome handles and the chrome trimming right below gives it a nice luxury look. You also have Ford's signature keyless entry system there right on the door and the nice chrome roof rails at the top. You can also choose to go with the optional crossbars that go across the top there. So these are power folding mirrors with the platinum you do get the heated and auto folding mirrors where they're going to fold as you put the car shut the car off and turn the car on they power fold. You also have the led turn signal indicators right on the mirror and the security approach lights so when you get close to the vehicle with your intelligent key it will light up there and again in the platinum all the chrome you do get the chrome mirror caps. On the mirror it also comes with the Bliss blind spot information system so when the radar sensor detects a vehicle in the corresponding blind spot this is going to light up orange so you know not to change lanes. As I said it is a power folding mirror which folds in with the touch of a button here and folds back out so if you're parking or have a tight space you can fold the mirrors in. Checking out the rear of the platinum explorer we do see we have the chrome continuing throughout with the explorer badging. Right below that is the backup camera and something that they added in 2016 was the wash for the backup camera so in the winter time if there's snow or sleet on it you can wash off your camera there. This one is the eco boost and the intelligent four-wheel drive system so it does come with the eco boost badging as well as our four parking sensors. Those work in conjunction with the backup camera to assist you in the active park assist and the parallel park assist and just when parking in any garage or anything like that. We do have the nice square dual exhaust beautiful chrome again throughout gives it a nice aggressive look to the rear and you know this thing has a ton of power. My favorite thing about the rear of this vehicle is this feature right here they actually hide the hitch on you so nobody can see it. You can tuck it away right with the cover there and you see I have my connectors for my trailer right there. This one being the eco boost is going to tow up to 5,000 pounds so it's all ready to go if you need to make that last minute road trip with your family you're already hooked up and this just clips on. People think I'm breaking it when I rip it off but it really comes off and on very easily it's just a matter of clips there as you can see and then it clips back on. So the platinum trim line does come with the 20-inch bright machined aluminum and it also has the tarnished dark painted pockets all on the inside throughout. Nice two-tone rim it's sitting on the hanok all-season tires which we fill with nitrogen. Moving on to the front of the Explorer we can see it does have this very unique satin chrome grille which is exclusive to the platinum package. Nice large Ford emblem right on the front. Very cool it also has a forward facing camera there so again it's going to help you when you're parking and using the park assist as well it has the front sensors all throughout to help make it easier when you're parking. Also comes with the LED signature daytime lights and the LED fog lights down below. There's also another sensor right on the side which is going to help with all the technology that I'm going to go over like your adaptive cruise control the bliss information system and the parallel park assist. So let's take a look under the hood of the 2017. This one is the 3.5 V6 EcoBoost it's a twin turbo it's going to give you a ton of power about 365 horsepower and 350 feet pounds feet of torque. Like I said before it can tow up to 5,000 pounds and it does have a six speed select shift automatic transmission. It's rated at around 10.7 liters for every 100 kilometers on the highway and it also comes equipped with the intelligent four-wheel drive system and the different terrain modes there's four different terrain modes which I'll talk about when we get inside. It also is going to come with the Ford standard factory warranty three-year 60,000 kilometer comprehensive five-year 100,000 for your powertrain and five-year or 100,000 kilometer roadside assistance whatever occurs first. So let's open up the Ford Explorer and take a look it does come with the smart key system here so right on the key I have my lock unlock my remote starter my power lift gate and my panic button. I can just leave my key in the in my pocket and approach the vehicle and unlock it just by touching the handle and lock it by touching the handle or I can use the keyless entry system right on the door. So let's have a look at the inside. So in the platinum trim you do get the 10-way adjustable power driver's seat. It is a heated and an air-conditioned seat which is very cool great for the winter and great for the summertime. The interior is this medium soft ceramic premium leather with the quilted and perforated inserts here gives it a nice high-end look and really hugs you when you're sitting in it and of course it does come with the platinum stitching right on the driver's seat as well. There's also three memory positions for your for your driver's seat so if there's multiple drivers they don't have to adjust the seat every time they get into the vehicle. So another one of my favorite features about the interior of this vehicle are the multi-contour seats. Very cool it's very unique brand new and it's specific to the two front seats basically the seats have a massager in it and they're going to massage your back while you're driving or your passenger's back. You can adjust the settings from low to high and now I feel it kicking on there and you can also adjust where it comes out if it's your high low or the top of your back. So it makes for a smoother ride it really acts like one of those seats you would sit in at the mall and you put a dollar in and it massages you for 10 minutes. Very cool and a very new feature for the Ford Explorers. So you do also get the power adjustable steering wheel you can bring it up and down and in and out with the push of a button and right on the wheel I do have my adjustable pedals. Again perfect if you have multiple drivers that are different sizes. So now we're on the interior of the Ford Explorer and you can see there's a ton of space. This is where the car really gets unique. Nice big center console right in the middle here. We also have our shifter knob here for our different drive modes. There's four different drive modes. There's a normal mode, there's a mud and rut mode, there's a sand mode perfect for the beach and of course there's Canada's favorite mode the snow the snow mode. It also comes with the hill descent control which you can activate right on the steering wheel. They're right on this shifter knob here which is going to help when you're going down a hill. There's two accessory outlets here. One is your 12 volt and then you have your illuminated usb to charge your cell phone right in the center. Okay so let's take a look at the control panel here right on the Ford Explorer. It does come with the new sync 3 navigation system and infotainment system. Check out my other video to get into detail of that but you can do your radio, your heating controls, your phone, your nav and your applications right from the touchscreen here. I was talking outside about the front facing camera and that turns on just with the push of a button here and you can see I can see the front of my vehicle. Great if you have young children. I like to play on the driveway if you have a small garage or if you just need help parking. It really helps when you're parking. This button here is for our parallel park assist. So again it's very unique. This one has parallel park assist as well as the regular park assist. So I can change whether I'm parallel parking, whether I'm perpendicular parking or even coming out of a spot. It's very cool. It relies on all the sensors and all the cameras that I've shown you and really parks the car for you. You basically just need to activate it, get to the parking spot that's empty and take your hands off the wheel and it will tell you when to brake and release the brake once you're in the spot. A lot of people ask me how reliable it is. It is actually very reliable. You are relying on a sensor in the vehicle which is a lot more reliable than a human driving the car right. The sensors aren't going to go wrong. So really it's very easy to use. I'd like to hear how you folks make out with it and while you're driving the Explorers let me know how you do with the park assist. I can also shut off the parking sensors right with the control here if I don't like the noise of the beeps and I can rely strictly on the backup camera. All our radio controls again like I said you can use the touchscreen or you can use the radio controls down here. See I can just go right in the touchscreen or I can just use the big power knob and volume knob here and we do have our seat controls here for our temperatures, our air conditioned seats or our heated seats for my driver's side and my passenger's side here. So let's take a look at the steering wheel. Again it is a leather wrapped wheel and when you get on the inside of this Platinum you do get the wood trimming all throughout and it's right at the top of the wheel here. Also have our cell phone controls and radio controls right on the side here so you can make calls hands-free answer calls and control your radio volume right from the wheel. These two pads will control your vehicle information screens and this is for your cruise control. A unique feature about the Platinum is the adaptive cruise control which these are your function buttons here so basically it helps you maintain the speed that you're at when you have gaps in between you and the vehicle in front of you. It also is going to alert you if there is a potential collision coming in front of you with the forward collision warning and the brake support. It flashes right on the heads-up display here to let you know to apply the brake when there's somebody too close in front of you. This is the vehicle information system so again we have our nice two gauges. Everything is very digital from our speedometer to our tachometer and our fuel monitor there. I can adjust different driver assistance if I want to turn on and off the blind spot warning or things like the cross traffic alert. It does also come with a lane keeping assist where if you deviate from your lane the steering wheel is going to vibrate for you to let you know that you're swaying away from your lane and a cross traffic alert where if you're backing up and someone is coming perpendicular behind you it will notify you not to continue to back up. So a lot of technology in this vehicle which makes it a lot easier to drive and makes your family a lot more safe. Okay so let's take a look at the moonroof. This one does come with the power moonroof. It has one in the front and another one in the back for your passengers. It opens up with the touch of a button lets a lot of light into the car and then the back one is just like the sunlight in your house. Makes the car feel a lot bigger lets a lot of light in and the front one slides right underneath the back one. All closes with the touch of a button and you can close it or have it open as little or as much as you like. Okay let's take a look at the back of the vehicle. So the soft ceramic interior continues throughout the back. When you get into the higher trim lines you do get the second row captain chairs as opposed to the middle bench. This one has the two captain chairs and the center console right in the middle that are heated which you can activate right from the center and it's very easy to adjust. As you can see they are on rails so you can adjust the spacing for however many passengers you have and they do fold to make easy access to the back. There is a nice button here which drops it down. Once I put the headrest down I just push the button and it folds down and then I can easily climb into the back by lifting the seat up and then I can fold it back up. Perfect for whatever you need however many passengers you have and the power options make it very easy to adjust. So in these high-end Explorers you also get the heating controls right on the back for your passengers. I can control the heating and air conditioning, my heated seats and then I have the accessories outlets here. The 110 volt inverter there and my two USBs. Perfect for laptops, cell phones, tablets and iPads whatever you need. So as I mentioned this one does come with the center console. A lot of people ask me if this is removable. You cannot remove it. It is fixed if you do decide to go with the center console or you can choose not to go with the center console and have an open space here but the center console is great. It's got a ton of storage as you can see. Perfect for phones, water, drinks, books, magazines, whatever you need in there. So also with the Explorer Platinum you do get the inflatable seat belts. They're gonna inflate if you get in an accident making it a lot safer for your family and avoiding some of those neck injuries. So let's take a look at the third row. Again very easy to open the trunk of the vehicle. It does have the foot activated lift gate so you just need to have the key in the proximity of the rear and you just give it a little kick there and it opens up. As you can see there's a ton of space in the back. Right now it's in the configuration of the six seat configuration. It's very easy to adjust the seats especially with the power controls here. As you can see there's a normal mode, there's a stowaway mode and there's a fold mode. Right now obviously it's in the normal mode but to adjust it you just put the headrest down there and then let's check out the stow mode. As you can see it adjusts. You just need to push the button there and you can take your hands off and it folds up nice it's almost like a star that folds on an axis and then you have a completely flat storage surface here. You can also use the button to bring them back up and then you're ready to travel and put your passengers back in there just by pulling the headrest up. If you want the deeper storage space back here you can also just do the fold here and it's going to fold these seats flat giving you some depth in your storage here and I can put whatever I have on top. So now I'm sitting in the third row and as you can see there is a ton of space. I'm about 5'10", 185 pounds and I got a lot of room back here. Lots of storage, there's two cup holders in the back and there's a ton of shelving and spacing for my phone or my devices so I could sit back here for several hours and have no problem and be very comfortable.
