Must Try Desserts in Ha Noi | Feature Corrin @platesofhanoi

Hi everyone, welcome back to my channel. Today, I have a special guest, Corrine. She's a Vietnamese food enthusiast and she's gonna take us to her favorite dessert spot in The Hau. Oh, that's a leg. Okay, so the first dessert that we're gonna try right now is one of my favorite in my childhood. It's called bao bia and inside it has like the sugarcane bar with shredded coconut and with sesame and I'm not sure what's the outer part. Really rice flour pancake. Yeah, yeah, that's right. You know better than me here now because it's her neighborhood here. Have you had it before? Yeah, I do. I love this so much and it only comes out in this neighborhood after school time into the evening so it's like a good snack for school kids but I think everyone enjoys it. Yeah, talking about school when I was younger, my mom always yelled at me because I always take the milk from school and exchange it to bao bia and then my mom was like why would you exchange like a healthy stuff to the sugary stuff but it's so good and now we're gonna try it to see how it tastes. Alright. I can still taste the crunchiness like the sugarcane bar in here and the coconut definitely brings out the flavor. The sesame seed it's called bung den in Vietnamese. It's the black sesame and then you can smell it too like the fragrance. So good. Yeah. I love that sesame seed is so popular here in Vietnam because in the U.S. it's like a very it's like an adult flavor. Not a lot of kids like sesame flavor so I think it's really interesting that like kids have it in their sweets here. Yeah, it's pretty interesting when we have sweet stuff in Vietnam they usually put sesame in there as well like in bánh gián as we're gonna try later so yeah it's really good. Okay so dessert that we're gonna have is called bánh gián. So we have one with sesame, one that has honey and one that is coated in sugar. So this one is actually a salty one. Okay. And they have glass noodles in there too. So that's why it's salty. Would you like to try it now? Yeah, I do want to try this one. I really like it. It tastes like all the flavors that you would find inside a spring roll except in a little donut. The first thing I tasted was that little bit of sugar that I think is in the dough so I was like oh it's kind of sweet and then all the flavors from inside came out so it was like a good combination. Exactly. Yeah, it's a good snack. And now we're gonna move on to the sweet one. Okay. To balance out everything. Yeah. Which one do you like to try next? Let's do the sesame one next. Okay. I like this one because it is still sweet like it is a dessert but I feel like the sesame in the outside gives it more well-rounded like I know those two are gonna be sweet, super sweet but this one is like I could probably eat a couple more of those. Okay. Yeah. This one I feel like it's not too sweet. Right. I feel like I can eat like five of them. Yeah. Yeah. But then like I can smell the sesame seed. Like you said it's so fragrant and inside it's mung bean. The mung bean is just a little bit sweet, not too sweet and it's crunchy outside I love the honey one so much because it's still sweet. Tastes like a dessert. But the way that they coat the banh xeo in honey it still keeps the flavor of honey. Right. Like it tastes very much like very natural sweetness. Yeah. Really refreshing almost. It's not like the burnt smell but it's like slightly burnt. Like caramel. Yeah. Yeah. That's right. Caramel. Yeah. That's right. Yep. Definitely the honey one is sweeter than the sesame one. Yes. Yeah. And the last one is just the sugar coated one. Right. I like the honey one better. Yeah. But this one is like ordinary one. Yeah. You know like it's a mix of the ordinary banh xeo which is like coated with sugar and I think it's pretty good. Yeah. It is pretty good and then also because the sugar doesn't have its own flavor other than just sweet you can really taste the mung bean paste. Yeah. So that's really nice. When I first came here from the U.S. and I learned about these how they're like Vietnamese donuts basically. I love love doughnuts back in the U.S. but they're so much different from these. Right. But I love the the rice flour texture to these kind of doughnuts. How it gives it that nice chewy flavored texture. Yeah. And it like it's also more filling than an American style doughnut. Because American style you have the frosting on top. Right. And then the doughnut either it will have the filling inside with vanilla or even chocolate. Or yeah berries something. Yeah. But then in here it's like round and then they fried it and it's just like so tasty and flavorful. Okay so now let's rate. Which one do you like the most? I think I like the honey one the most. Me I'm really surprised. I liked the salted one the savory one. Really? It was really good. And the third place. Sesame. Yes me too. This is actually a new area for us. I love this area right by the lake. It's so cute. I haven't been here before so let's see what they have here. Okay let's go. So in our shop you can freely to taste the flavors before you can make your orders. I would like to try red velvet cake and the orange mango please. So all the ice cream here is homemade and developed as their own recipes. Nice yeah and then they have about like 20 to 30 flavors here. Yeah yep. So we have a full array of milk ice creams and then also vegan ice creams which is exciting. Yeah I'm excited to try the vegan caramel one. Yeah. All right let's try it. It's so good. I love it. Is there cream cheese in the red velvet cake one? Okay I want to try the orange mango one. So good. So fresh. Thank you. So fresh and so creamy. You taste the cream cheese? Yum. Like a frosting. Oh it's so good. So good. I think that one is my favorite. That one's your favorite? I love it. Yeah I can taste the cream cheese in there and that one is not too sweet. No. Yeah. So it's oh so good. Yeah. Okay. Oh they're beautiful. So we're at Two Cream High Cream and obviously we have their homemade ice cream flavors. We have red velvet, mango, orange, and vegan chocolate. But these amazing desserts are their specialties. So they have homemade macaron cookies. You can see it's a nice cookie sandwich. And it's melting. It's melting fast. And we also have a hot toasted croissants croissant sandwich with ice cream inside and red velvet crumbles on top and marshmallows. Yum. Oh my gosh. I can't wait to try it. You know what like um this is my first time trying like the croissant with ice cream in there. So good. Oh my gosh. I can keep eating and eating it. The combination is just so good where you have like buttery flaky but then with the ice cream as well like mellow but also sweet. Oh wow. So delicious. The crust is so thin and so crunchy and inside is so airy you know. And then with the ice cream it makes a perfect combination. And um I feel like the chocolate is not as sweet at all. And I can still um the chocolate in the U.S. is a little bit bitter but I feel like the difference in Vietnam it's a it's not as bitter. Yeah. Like the one in the U.S. right? Yeah. And this one's the vegan one. So it has like a tiny hint of coconut under it because they use coconut cream inside it to make it creamy which is really nice because then it's really creamy really milky but not too sweet. I like the cream cheese one way that velvet. The thing with food reviewer we were just talking about is that we try to take photos and we try to set up everything make sure the sound is on and everything like that so the ice cream is melting and then like when we see the ice cream melting we're like let's feel right away and then we get the bite is rewarding. You know like with all the hard work I feel like the ice cream is so good and it's like a very nice reward for us after all. And we hope that like uh YouTube or Instagram have the taste button so you can like really taste the deliciousness from this yummy ice cream. You're right. Yeah so much about being a food reviewer is like setting up preparation research and very little about eating food so like our passion has to drive us to be like I know that this is something I really want to share with people because there's so much work that goes into it but I want people to experience what I get experience too. Now we're gonna try the macaroon one right? Okay can you introduce a little bit about it? So we have these light airy macaroon cookies on top which are gonna be nice because they're not gonna be super heavy like the croissants gonna be super air thin light and then we have red velvet ice cream inside and homemade red velvet crumbles around the outside. So beautiful to look at even though it's melting. I can't wait to try it. It looks like a hamburger. Yeah it does. So yeah let's dig in. Okay. So good. Yeah guys it's not too sweet at all and then I feel like it mixed really well with the ice cream and the red velvet and everything. I can taste the cream cheese in there. I love cream cheese. So I feel like this one is really good. My favorite was the chocolate one but now my favorite is this one. Yeah I love this so much. The cookie is like a little bit chewy so it has a nice like chewy texture to it when you bite in with the ice cream. Yeah. And then it's nice too because the cookie is quite firm so it doesn't get soggy with the ice cream sitting on top. Right. You still have those different textures. Awesome yeah. All right that's our food tour today. Corinne how do you feel what we ate today? Oh I have such a sweet tooth but now that I've eaten all of those in one day I feel like I'm crashing but they were so delicious. I know right.
