Second day of our 1-night loop across the Upper Petawawa River. With bugs still bad and rain on its way, we spent the morning hanging out around camp and fishing for Lake Trout
Great 1-night loop option on the West side of Algonquin Park

So it's Sunday morning at about 7 30 a.m.
We are expecting rain today and it looks like it's going to.
There's no wind.
There's a lot of bugs.
They have not let up since yesterday.
They were horrendous.
They're going all through our clothes and they're just swarming all day.
And they are right now too.
Nice and quick meal in the morning.
Brown up some bacon real quick.
Spread some peanut butter on a wrap.
They look pretty good.
Pretty simple.
Just a little bit of a change from oatmeal which we have every other day for breakfast.
Is that the ready crisp or what type of bacon is that?
It's ready crisp bacon.
Your typical island campsite on a lake close to an access point.
Everything on the floor.
There's no deadfall.
It's all being picked clean.
It looks like a landscaped backyard because of how clean the floor is.
And there's no dead limbs.
This makes it great for walking around.
But for the forest biodiversity and the succession of a forest it's tough on it.
And it's also tough as a camper to try to find dead dry wood.
It's about 10 30 and we're just leaving site right now.
We had a nice morning just relaxing.
We were expecting lots of rain today but now it's just kind of
misty on us but it's not too bad.
So now we're gonna head out.
We're here on Ralph Bice Lake.
I think we're gonna catch some trout.
Alex is a fish here out on Rice Bice.
Alex just caught a fish on Ralph Bice.
Check it out.
What do we got buddy?
Oh buddy!
What do you got?
Hey!
On the board.
Feeling like a little lakey again.
We're coming to the end of Ralph Bice.
There's a 295 meter portage into Hambone Lake.
And then from there it's about a kilometer back to Magnetowan Lake.
Just trolling across Ralph Bice.
We hooked into four lake trout.
The fishing was really good this weekend.
So it was pretty unique fishing last night.
We were trolling for brookies and then as we were fishing for them
they were jumping up all around us because they were hitting bugs on the surface.
I saw a swirl right next to the boat and then I cast my neps.
And as soon as I hit the water I felt a tug.
It missed it and then slashed again.
And it might have been about 15 feet away from the boat when it hit.
And that was pretty cool.
I didn't realize how hard brook trout actually fought.
Hey Alex, did you know that?
No.
They're little bulldogs.
They are.
Maybe that's why they taste so good, you know?
Yeah.
They're so lean.
So if we're just having one night on the water we got a lot done.
We saw a moose.
Caught a bunch of fish.
Did a pretty awesome loop.
Pet a wah-wah to Ralph Bice.
Back to the Magnetowan Lake.
