ATHENS, GREECE _ travel vlog.
This is pepsizio, which is kind of like the lasagna with bechamel sauce and minced meat.
Here's dolmades, stuffed vine leaves.
This one, I can't remember how to say it, but I'll keep the word. Kabobs, yogurt sauce, and tomato sauce.
We just had lunch at Manas Reiki, I think, and it was at this very cool restaurant called Savas, and it had a really cool rooftop bar.
And that apparently is a place to go to watch the sunset here.
So we'll be back with some drinks eventually.
We just watched the changing of the guards, and Omar and Irving are so disrespectful right now.
But that was pretty cool. Some people say that the changing of the guards in Greece is cooler than in Britain, so that was pretty cool.
So we are in line at the Acropolis, southwest entrance I believe, or the southern entrance.
So pro tip is to try to get your passes before so that you don't have to stand in this really crazy line just to get your ticket and then go through the turnstile.
Because no one's there, and everyone's just going right through.
But anyway, so we're going to be going to the Acropolis today, which has tons of the historical sites, and then tons of views, so hopefully it's going to be very beautiful.
It's really windy here, if you can tell, so hopefully the audio isn't terrible, or there just might not be any while we're up at the top.
Definitely should try to do this outside of tour season.
We are walking up the Propylaia, which is the U-shaped building that has welcomed lots of the visitors at the top of this Acropolis.
We are right smack in the middle of the summer, or end summer, when all the tourists are here.
We're on top of the Acropolis!
That was pretty cool, and just to top it all off, it looks like there's a rock that we can climb to get an even more amazing view of the Acropolis.
Caution! Slippery!
Now we're in the Roman Agora, or the remains of the Roman Agora.
From what I read, it used to be much bigger than what we see today, but you can still see what's left.
Some of the columns, and some of the fallen pieces.
Thank you!
Now I'm in the ancient Agora, where pretty much everything was done here.
You can kind of see that there are ruins of all of the buildings that used to house tons of things.
It could have been merchants, commercial, financial.
All of the people that we've probably heard of in our studies as we were younger came here, like soccer teams.
But this place is really big. I would definitely save some time to come here because this place is huge.
You can see everyone kind of wandering through, kind of just taking it all in.
It's raining!
It's pretty gnarly right now.
But apparently there's a cyclone, or would have been cyclone in the Mediterranean Sea or Adriatic Sea,
that is causing Athens to have all of this rain.
So I'm sure they're happy about it, but this is definitely not a normal summer.
Now my shoes are wet!
We're at the National Archaeology Museum, which is I think the biggest one of Europe, or the world, I'm not sure.
But it's made of marble.
So we're inside the National Archaeology Museum and we're very lucky again because it is the last weekend of September and it's free!
So we're just walking in and luckily I can take my camera, just no flash photography.
And we'll see what's inside.
One really cool thing that you can do if you visit Athens is Rick Steves puts on free tours, audio tours.
So you just have to download his app and then download the specific tour.
So I didn't get to mention it last time when we were at the Acropolis, but we were listening to that at the top
so that we can learn a little bit more instead of just taking a bunch of pictures and a bunch of video.
So we're doing the same thing.
So we're doing the same thing now for the Archaeology Museum.
This is an artifact that they found in a shipwreck.
They don't know whether or not it's Zeus or if it's Poseidon because they lost the weapon.
And so you can see that the type of architecture, the type of sculptures are very hard, serious, not as fun as it used to be before.
And it will be after this.
The statuette of what the full size 40 foot tall statue would have been like at the top of the Acropolis.
Bronze statue of a horse and a rider.
Now we're in the golden age or classical age, the height of the Greek culture.
Hellenistic period showed a lot more drama on top of the emotion that started to be shown in classical.
It's less heroic and less dark as the Persian period.
That's it.
That was the National Archaeology Museum of Athens which had tons of stuff.
I really like learning a lot with the Rik's News app.
So go ahead and do that.
Not affiliated at all.
It was just good to use.
And it's free.
And today was free.
So this was a great day.
Minus the fact that it's gloomy.
We decided to visit the Temple of Zeus because it stopped raining heavily but now it's starting to rain.
So I hope my camera doesn't get too wet.
So here we are.
This was the Temple of Zeus.
Yes, the last year.
It's pretty huge.
So I'm off on my own right now.
Omar and Irving are working right now.
So I'm off to go explore the city all by myself for the last day.
And I'm going to try to go see Antipodes.
I don't know if I'm saying that right.
And also maybe see the Sunday Market.
And the Mountain of Kibbutz.
So it's a lot for one day.
So we'll see how it goes.
Google Maps is taking me up this very interesting turn.
You know, I also don't even know if I put the right thing in Google.
So let's just do this.
Anafiotika.
And also because there's white and blue shutters right there.
So I know I'm in the right direction.
Try not to do this ever when it's raining.
Because there's no way.
Oh, but it looks so cute.
Look at it.
Anafiotika.
We're back here.
Look, it just brings us to the very top.
Awesome view.
All right.
Looks like anyway we'll take you all the way up to the very top with that view.
So I highly suggest you go ahead and explore that way.
And now it's actually really wet.
So I think I might just almost cut my day short.
Just because it's so hard to do all of this all at the same time.
But I'm going to do one last thing.
Which is try to get one drink at the top of Fort Athens.
Which a lot of people suggested to do.
Because it has views of the Acropolis.
So I'm going to make my way over to Monastiraki Square.
Monastiraki Square.
This is where A for Athens is.
Around this corner.
Right here is A for Athens.
Okay, so I just had a really nice drink at the bar of A for Athens.
And the view of the Acropolis was amazing.
It was all lit up.
It was beautiful.
But now I'm on my way back home and my feet are all wet.
Soaked.
And everything is an absolute wet mess right now.
Alright everyone.
I think I'm going to end the video here because it's pouring.
It's raining.
And I don't think we're going to do anything for the rest of the night.
And we're up really early for a flight tomorrow morning.
So I just want to say that I had a great time in Athens.
This was a beautiful city.
Beautiful history.
Beautiful heritage.
If you are from here, be proud.
Because we read about you guys through textbooks.
Through school and everything.
So it's great to actually see it in person.
In the flesh.
And just to imagine exactly how this civilization might have been in its prime.
So I'll see you guys in the next video.
Hopefully it will be more drier.
Because we're going to be on a hot air balloon in Cappadocia, Turkey.
So see you guys then.
Bye.
