The typical chocolate tour package
If they come from Brussels and bring you a bunch of chocolate boxes like that they've taken the cheap tourist package
It's not good chocolate
There's a wild checkpoint here as if this were the airport to enter the central square
I don't know if it's because of the terrorist alerts or something else but it seems exaggerated to me
This was last year no two or three years ago when Erasmus wasn't around yet
Mira here's a beer shop that has more than 250 types
They are fake
HeyThey are souvenirs
Yeah a bit all tourist-oriented aren't they
And that is to say this control I don't know if it's always there but now there are also some signs because
They are chocolates for my parents when they come through
Is this Leonidas
It's like a small bag also a fridge
Well as I was saying we just caught the beer week
The beer festival here in Brussels and then they set up here
Okay I'm going to show you the little square and tell you about it
Well here we are in the Grand Plaza which as you can see is super beautiful
This is the town hall the Hotel de Ville which is super super beautiful
Then the square itself is really beautiful because all the buildings around it are also in the same architectural style
In fact this building is called El Rey de España
There is a bar inside called Legua de España
And this is the entire building
And here are the rest of the buildings around
They are giving a lot of tours around here in the area
Everywhere crowded
And nothing as I was saying there's like a beer festival here where you pay a small entrance fee
And then you can get beers from all countries all types
Well if you like beer and you have the time it's a great option to drink all the beers you want here
And here on the sides we have something like a flower and
plant market It's very beautiful
Yes I love the streetlights here because it's like in I also think it's in Holland right
They all have little flowers around
Yes it can be
At least in Sweden they did
Yes it's very beautiful
Another of the most legendary chocolate shops in Belgium is Godaiba which I think is one of the most international ones
This can be seen I think throughout Europe at least
And very expensive yes
And nothing else since we've already done the shopping let's take a look around
This is not the official one
One of the best things you can do here in the center of Brussels is to get lost in the streets around you
Because they are truly labyrinthine
Oh by the way we're trying to go to the Manneken Pis and I don't really know the way because it's quite complicated
I think we've gotten into the Mexican neighborhood
I don't know
Yes that was the cantina and this is the Amigo Hotel
Yes it could be
Well then that's something really worth not missing because it's like I don't know all super beautiful
Now let's also look at some facades that are quite unique
Then it's well worth seeing everything you can around there and not just staying in the main square
Hello this is what I've been saying about these interesting facades around here near the Grand Square
Yes because Brussels is a great capital of comics
There is a very strong current which is the Franco-Belgian comic
It's a series about that about artists who have emerged from this entire area of Europe that has a lot of international fame in the comic world
And among them is as Mara told me that he is Elie the creator of Tintin
But I think it's very bad that you were living here for six months and haven't gone to the museum
No but when I came there was a comic festival and there was already quite a bit
That's enough isn't it
Well the comic museum has the opera stairs where
Well I just don't know if I'm a Spaniard or not like Tintin
But there's an opera you usually see the castration right
And the stairs are very typical and have been rebuilt in this museum
I really recommend that you go
Yes I haven't been there you know
But anyway that's how it always is you don't visit much where you live
And well this facade as you can see is really beautiful
Here is Tintin there with Captain Haddock
I'm messed up from what was visiting us
Yes going down those stairs
And it's very typical of this area these streets
In fact there is a small guide that comes with all the murals in the area
And there's a little game you know where you just mark all the ones you see
A bit of that is about finding them all
And there are also the pitucos
And then it's hard to find them all
I looked for them in my time and I think some are missing because there are some that are very very hidden
They are not as obvious as this one heading to the Manneken Pis
But it's really cool well worth it and some are super beautiful
Here we are at the Manneken Pis which is the most legendary sculpture statue in Brussels
And those who haven't seen it or have only seen it in photos will be a bit surprised by the actual size of the Little Mermaid we saw in Copenhagen
Yes when you come the Manneken Pis is just a little guy
Here is a fence it's in a corner
When I saw him he was naked
Yes
I didn't have any little dress and now I do Yes that's the normal thing to be naked
No sale here in the photo but I'll put some similar ones that you have where the coins are taken from
But that's usually how it is
Showing off a bare butt
But then it depends on the different celebrations that may take place or different anniversaries etc
They usually dress them
There are countless costumes there
In fact there is a museum the Manneken Pis Museum where all the little outfits and all the costumes that are put on him are displayed
And now they've put him as an English guard
By the way I don't really remember much about the story of the Manneken Pis
It sounds like something about a fire or something like that
And that the child is as if he put out the fire by urinating on himself
And I don't know there are a few theories
Obviously they are all legends
But anyway these are the ones that have somewhat revived the fact that now it's like an icon here in Brussels
This is the type of architecture I was talking about which is here in the center much older
But it's really beautiful
Here we have the Brussels Market just next to the Grand Place a minute
It's also a really beautiful building because it's this kind of columned style like a pantheon and stuff
Well I don't have the slightest idea about architecture but okay
I mean they look like right
Old theaters Yes
Yes yes the truth is it's really beautiful
And right here next to the bag in the corner there's like a glassed-in area
And here you can see what the ancient foundations of the city were
I think this is from 1238 but it looks like
I don't know there's a fern growing there
Huh Yes that's true
The fact is that it's true yes
And the fact is that these are the foundations of the old Brussels
It's amazing I don't know if you can see the helicopter and everything there
There's a brutal police presence in the center
That is they have taken measures
Actually I've never found the city to be unsafe
Yes it is true that there is an area called Molenbeek which is very close to the Grand Place
And that's where all the Arabs are but it's not like that's a problem
But it is true that this is where all the terrorists who have been coming out have been
They came from that neighborhood so it's quite protected because of that
Well I'm not going to get into geopolitical topics
And here next to the bag is the Church of Saint Nicholas
It is also very well known for that because it's right here in the center
We are now going through very narrow alleys that Mara has recognized
This is a typical alley where all the restaurants are located
Mira these are the super typical ones the menu is available in 25 languages
And now because it's very early in the morning but you come here for lunch at the same time as dinner
Yes that's a constant burden because they throw all the waiters at you to
I give you all the languages that you know
Yes and they even detect it They have the facial features and already know what language and dialect you speak
Lie they are testing one after another
And here the most typical food is potatoes like the ones we saw yesterday in the sandwich
Very rich very different
And it's also very typical to have moules frites which are mussels served with fries
I don't like mussels Did you like them didn't you
What about the ones here Good
Well normal They didn't seem like anything special to me
I don't know maybe they're normal but anyway so it's very typical to eat here
In fact they serve a lot in restaurants
Yes but they also have a huge pot
I remember an Erasmus colleague who got a guy to eat mussels
They caught a terrible stomach poisoning
