It's been a hot minute since we've done a Sivestream podcast and today's episode
is really special because it's been a long time coming. If you guys have been
here from the beginning, you'll know that Steve is one of my best friends but
we've never actually met in person. It's honestly a testament to how well the
internet connects people of similar interests and how we foster friendships
with people from all over the world. I am so excited to bring you this episode of
the Sivestream podcast because Steve and I finally got to meet in person when I
went to visit him in Canada.
It's been so long.
Well, we have to get back into it.
We do. Oh my gosh. Not you too.
Are you looking up our old podcast?
Yeah.
Is that not allowed?
No, no. That's allowed.
Why would it be allowed? That's genius.
Oh my god.
It's this one.
Let us do this.
I don't know.
Welcome to the Sivestream podcast where we talk about all things Siberian Husky.
I'm Camille from Mueller Husky and I live with two Siberian Huskies named
Phoenix and Griffin in New Jersey, USA.
And I'm Steve from Loki the Siberian.
I live in Ontario, Canada with my three Siberian Huskies Loki, Sasha, and Izzy.
I don't know why I said it weird like that, but we haven't podcasted in like half a year
and I'm in a different location now.
So I kind of wanted to be like, hey, I'm somewhere else.
Is that the excuse you're going to run with?
Yeah. So, uh, not to just glaze over this, but I did move across the country
from Southern California to New Jersey.
And now I'm here, my new house.
This isn't the final setup.
I keep saying this because I keep trying to pressure myself into my final setup.
But here we are.
You did move four months ago, five months, four months ago.
Everyone has a trash room in their house.
And right now my studio is the trash.
Okay.
People at home, tell me, do you, or do you not have a room where all the junk goes?
Nevermind.
This podcast is about Huskies.
All right.
So big news, kind of a news that requires me to come out of hiding and podcast again,
which is the fact that I visited Steve last weekend in Canada.
Why are we not podcasting from Canada?
You say, Camille?
Because we were just focused on having a good time.
I don't know.
This entire podcast is just disclaimers of me talking about why we didn't do what we
said we were going to do.
It was on the agenda.
I had everything planned out pretty well.
You have to admit, I planned out everything.
You planned everything.
And guess what I did instead?
I took a nap.
You did.
So we have just so much footage, a lot of pictures.
There's a photo of me taking a nap, so I could probably like sneak it in here too, but I
really did take a nap, okay?
With a bag of ketchup chips.
But that was the first time that you and I met in real life.
It honestly felt like I had known you for longer, so, and met you in real life before.
Yeah, it didn't feel like it was like awkward or weird or anything.
It was just like,
Not at all.
Oh my God, you're here.
Like, let's have fun.
So you did schedule everything really well, which I like because my entire job is to schedule
things.
And when I'm not on the clock, I want to like,
Yeah, you literally had nothing to worry about.
I loved it.
So tell me about the process of like getting everything prepared and ready.
It wasn't really like too tricky.
I just knew that I had to cram as many Canadian things in as possible in that three days.
And we had to do dog stuff too.
Yeah, for sure.
And some things I didn't even know were specifically Canadian.
Some of the things I wanted to get to do because you were here and then that was something that's
accessible easily here.
You know, we went to a hockey game.
You go to a hockey game in New Jersey as well, but here there's hockey games all the time.
There's just lots of hockey games.
We drove by no less than 10 rinks and you probably didn't even recognize one of them.
Oh, and then get this though.
So before I arrived, because I got to stay at Steve's house, he's a very good host.
He sent me a picture of the room I was going to stay in.
And he was like, Husky Airbnb is ready.
I didn't even have to bring kennels.
I literally brought myself and the dogs.
I don't even know what I packed is what I said to you.
I have no idea what I packed.
I just threw everything together.
I get a phone call.
I don't even know what I have.
Yeah, I brought all of my cameras.
Four sets of shoes.
And no SD cards.
But four sets of shoes.
Four sets of shoes and three jackets.
But I completely forgot the girls' ex back harnesses.
You forgot that too.
So, I mean, planning things out wasn't too difficult.
I knew what I wanted to do.
I didn't know if you were going to have problems at the border or not.
Can I tell you though, it was so nice knowing that I was going to go to another Husky household.
Because I knew straight off the bat that the minute I let the dogs out in your backyard,
they're not getting out of that backyard.
No.
I think there's like a minute where you're kind of looking out.
I'm like, she's going to be fine.
Because I do it everywhere.
You're like that.
Every time you go anywhere new, you let the dogs out somewhere where they're off leash.
You have to check the perimeter.
I do it every time.
Yeah, that was nice.
And then also the fact that you were like, I cleaned before I came.
So, I show up and there's no dog hair tumbleweed on the ground.
And I was like, this is changing immediately.
As soon as we show up, there's going to be tumbleweeds all over the place.
Well, I just made sure everything was nice and clean.
So, I got a five-star review on the Husky Airbnb.
13 out of 10 would definitely recommend.
13 out of 10.
Bring all your sled dogs.
Yeah, you got your own bedroom.
You got your own bathroom.
The whole main floor is pretty much yours.
Yeah, it was me and Phoenix and Griffin.
Alright, so, but crossing the border, you did mention.
I was worried about that.
I think that was the thing I was worried about the most.
Because they can haul you in and search your truck and stuff like that.
Right, there's nothing in there but trash.
And a whole bunch of cardboard boxes.
Yeah, shut up!
Steve was like, do you need help getting your bags out?
I opened the bed of the truck and there's just like cardboard boxes back there.
It's the stuff that didn't fit in the recycling bin.
But yeah, getting through the border, I was worried about.
Because I haven't left the country like a lot of other people in several years.
Not several, maybe two years.
I guess part of it is because my experience is always going across the United States.
And I've had some trouble in the past where they kind of give me a hard time.
But it sounds like they're really nice to you.
I mean, so this time I brought the usual stuff.
I had my passport, my vaccination card.
I had to go get a test before I came.
Which was honestly the thing that was making me more stressed out.
Because I was like, let me make sure I get the results before I get across the border.
But we get there and like I said, this is the first time Steve and I met in real life.
So I get to the border and the guy's like looking at my passport.
And he's like, so who are you going to go see?
And I was like, my friend.
He lives in Canada.
And the guy was like, have you met him before?
And I was like, no, I guess.
Like not in real life.
What are you judging me for?
So then he's like looking through my stuff, looking at my test, whatever.
And then before he hands me my passport back, he's like, so you've never met this guy before in real life?
And I was like, no, but we have a podcast together.
And he's like, a what?
And I was like, uh, a podcast, you know, like on the Spotify.
And he was like, okay.
He just handed me back my stuff.
Like, all right.
If you're going to get murdered, it's okay.
No.
Should I have?
Yeah.
So then I had to like explain.
I was a little embarrassed.
That was letting me into the country that I'm going there to meet a person.
I've never met in person before, but we have a podcast together.
So like, don't worry.
I'm sure.
I'm sure like nine times out of 10, it's actually like not a great idea for people to do that.
But in our case, it was fine.
Don't be like us guys.
I can, I can say that Steve's not insane.
I'm alive.
Thank you.
And I'm back in New Jersey.
I'm alive and I'm back in New Jersey.
Oh, geez.
Oh, I forgot.
I'm wearing my cat hoodie today.
Wow.
Yeah.
I imagine that this is what one of Griffin's dreams looks like.
It's just like all cats.
Yeah.
So no, no problem getting across the border.
And then like, I actually called you when I got there.
Cause he told me to meet you in this parking lot and I didn't know what your car looked
like, but I thought I knew what it looked like.
And you were like, oh, you're already across.
Yeah.
So I get there.
Right.
And I come out of the car.
Cause I see Steve.
He's coming around.
I come out of the car.
And the first thing he hands me in my hands is a giant coffee from Tim Hortons.
And I was like, immediate best friend.
Immediately.
That was it.
All the, like the two years before that, like knowing each other for that long.
Forget about it.
Tim Hortons coffee.
That's it.
Immediate best friend.
You didn't even look at the coffee.
You're just giving me a hug right away.
I gave you a hug.
And then I immediately tried the coffee back in my car.
Cause you were like, okay, follow me.
So I get back in my car and I'm like, yes, this is the best.
It was nice.
What a welcome to Canada.
It was like the most Canadian welcome.
Good.
That was the, that set the theme for the whole week.
And I got a hat that says Canada on it.
And you love hats.
I love hats.
It's a toque, by the way.
And you got it in Canada.
So it's officially a toque, not a beanie.
Oh, right.
Cause we like call different things.
You guys call them beanies.
We call them toques.
What?
En francais.
Toque is French.
Okay.
I was like, is it that specific hat color?
No, it's all hats.
It's all beanies.
If they have a palm on them, they're definitely a toque.
So I get there, we get to see his house.
I let the dogs out.
We settle in.
And then he's like, let's go get, I guess, was it lunch?
Well, I said like, are you hungry?
And it was three.
Little does Steve know, I'm always hungry.
She is.
I don't know where she puts it.
All the time.
It's crazy.
Cause like we've known each other for, for a long time.
But you don't know some of the things that you would know if we had like hung out in person.
Right.
Which is like the fact that I'd be consistently like eating all the time.
You are.
Unless you're sleeping.
Unless I'm sleeping.
In which case I'm snoring, which you also found out after I fell asleep on the couch.
That happened too.
Yeah.
I never thought about that.
Like the things that you wouldn't know, because like we talk to each other, we do this podcast,
we talk about dogs, but I'm not telling you like Steve, when I'm not talking to you, I'm housing some sort of food.
No.
So this, this trip, like it was a lot of dog stuff.
It was a lot of Canadian stuff, but it was a lot of eating for me.
And I, it made me very happy.
So we went, we went out, we went out and we got burgers and he wanted to like combat in and out, which like I'm from California.
You're never going to be in and out.
But I will say the in and out fries are trash and we got poutine and it was amazing.
I've never had Canadian poutine and I'm sure it's like super common over there, but like I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was.
I don't even know how to explain how good it is.
Like the gravy was just like, I don't know how to say, but like, I think my recommendation is go to Canada, get some poutine.
I guess there's like legit places to get poutine.
Yeah.
And like, well, cause you can get poutine at McDonald's, but the fries at McDonald's are not right for poutine.
Oh yeah.
You get, you get fries, you get poutine anywhere, but yeah, you need like the, the pub style cut fries.
You need the right like cheese curds.
Like it's only three ingredients, but each ingredient has to be exactly right.
Otherwise it's wrong.
I took you to Simon's Prime and actually they're the 27th highest ranked hamburger place in Canada.
27?
Yeah.
Do you know all the other 26 before?
I don't know.
They just have like a big sign that says that they've like entered competitions and they're ranked 27th in Canada.
Is that something I would really brag about?
Canada is bigger than one city, Camille.
Come on now.
I can't be mad.
It was really good.
It was.
I'd give them like top three.
Yeah, but it's, they, they have legit poutine.
They actually make the poutine right.
So that's usually where I go if I want a poutine.
It was good.
And I'm like regretting not going back and getting more.
Yeah.
So then you filled me up with poutine and you're like, I have a surprise.
And I'm like, okay, what, what could this possibly be?
You like surprises.
I don't know why.
I love surprises.
So this like worked out.
So we pull up to this place and it looks like a giant expo center.
And then I was like, is this hockey?
Oh man.
I was so excited.
It was hockey.
I've never been to a hockey game before.
Well, it's pretty fitting that your first hockey game to see in real life was in Canada.
And can you tell me, so tell me like who we went to see because I will remember,
but I just know that I cheered for the Canadian team.
It was an OHL game, which is the Ontario Hockey League.
It's for Americans.
It's kind of like the, the farm league, one of the farm leagues for the NHL,
like comparable to like college football.
And we were seeing the Windsor Spitfires, which is our home team,
playing the Flint Firebirds, which is a Michigan team.
First impressions of the hockey game though.
I get there.
I'm glad I wore my warm jacket because like I said, I brought three jackets.
I told you to dress warm.
The best part is I have, I'm wearing pants with holes in them and they're cropped
because like I forgot that I don't live in LA anymore.
And I had to like roll them down because I was cold.
It was nice though.
Honestly, like live sports, anywhere that sells nachos and hot dogs is like my jam.
That's the best place to take me.
I just like screaming also, even though I don't even care or know about the team.
I just like scream about stuff.
This game was so good.
I was so into it.
And, and I've, I'd never seen live hockey before, but these guys are so good on skates.
Like I remember, I know what ice skating is like for me.
And it's just a lot of like wobbling and whatever.
And like, I like to think I'm a very coordinated person, but oh my gosh,
backwards, sideways, like running into people.
We didn't see any fights, which is, I'm like sad about.
Yeah, there's no fights, which is rare.
There's usually at least one fight.
But then like right before the game started, Steve was like, if I go like this,
it's because a puck is coming at your face.
And I was like, oh, made it even more exciting for me.
Like the game is exciting, but now there's a chance that I'm going to like get my teeth knocked out.
Yes.
Well, we were only six rows up from the ice because we were row F.
Yeah, we had really good seats.
There was definitely a possibility that a puck could come out of the...
It was good.
I liked that.
And then the game itself was so exciting and really fast.
And half the time, like people would make a goal and I'd be like, I think I missed it,
but they would cheer anyway, so I would cheer.
And then like I would also scream.
Like that's basically how it goes.
And you said to me like right before the game started, you're like,
this isn't like soccer where like it's 60 minutes in and it's one nothing.
And like it was the best possible outcome because the game was nonstop back and forth.
And with the overtime, like the best possible scenario.
It was a good game.
I am going to be thoroughly disappointed by all other hockey games after this.
You've ruined it for me.
Yeah, it's a completely different thing watching it live.
Watching it on TV, it looks a lot slower than it is.
Seriously, it was so fast back and forth, back and forth.
I never felt more Canadian than when I was sitting there yelling at people that I've never met.
Although when we got in line for the concessions, like I want a soda.
No.
That's what it is.
It's a soda.
A soda pop.
You just picked the wrong word.
No.
So anyway, it was a good, it was so fun.
It was a good surprise.
I was really surprised.
All right, so after that, we let the dogs out again.
And just to like give you guys some background though, there were a total of five dogs in the house.
All of them have pretty strong personalities, I would say.
So we had to be super smart about how we introduced all the dogs to each other.
Because it wasn't just like I showed up and then like, you know, like a giant fluff party everywhere and like dogs and whatever.
Like we were super smart about it.
The first thing you don't want to do is rush it and just have all the dogs meet each other all at once.
Right, because that's just chaos.
And then not on neutral territory.
Plus, we're outnumbered.
There were five of them and there's only two of us.
Like you said, your dogs have strong personalities, my dogs have strong personalities.
We played it smart and what we did is I crate my dogs, so we just rotated them.
So Camille let her dogs out and then I would let my dogs out.
Oh, they all smelled each other.
Yeah.
They knew they were there.
The way I usually like to introduce my dogs to other people's dogs is like doing something.
Like going on a hike usually, going on a walk.
Right.
The other thing is that like you don't want to like have like a negative experience in that first initial meeting or in the first couple initial meetings.
Because then that kind of sets the stage for everything else, right?
Yeah, first impressions are everything for dogs.
So this leads me into like what we did the next day, which was we took a nice long hike.
And Steve's friend Hannah came, MVP of the weekend.
Oh my gosh, here we go.
She helped us so much.
Like this was the first time I met her.
She didn't know.
So she took Sasha, you had Loki and Izzy, and I had my two.
Oh, we went to Point Pelee.
And I don't know how it's spelled, but in my notes here I wrote P-E-E-L-E-E.
Is that wrong?
That's so wrong.
Yeah.
I'll send you the correct spelling.
Okay, thank you.
Almost every single person that you've talked to, either like in our Husky community or your friends, when you were like, oh, Camille's visiting, they were like, well, have you gone to Point Pelee?
Like they listed a couple places and that was like definitely one of the places to go.
And I didn't really know what to expect.
I know you go there a lot and you run the dogs there sometimes or you'll take walks or whatever.
But I didn't realize we were right up against Lake Erie, which I have been to on the other side from Pennsylvania.
I've never seen anything like this before.
So like we took this walk.
I think it had to be like.
It's like six kilometers.
Yeah, I don't know what that is in miles.
It's like three miles.
We get to the end of it and it had just snowed, right?
So it was like beautiful.
Yeah, that was perfect too.
It was perfect.
And we get to the end of it and we come out and it's a beach and I can see like sand coming up between the snow, which was surreal.
And I've only seen that, I think, when I went to Lake Tahoe where it's a lake still and there's like sand and whatever.
But the whole lake, not the whole lake, but like most of the lake was completely frozen over.
And it's something I'd never seen before in California when we went to Lake Tahoe because it doesn't stay cold enough there to like freeze the whole lake.
And you were saying it's like.
It takes months for the lake to freeze over.
The river never freezes over, but that's because it's a shipping channel.
But the lake.
Like it looks like you could walk out onto it, which you probably shouldn't.
I don't know.
Maybe you could.
Technically you can, but the problem is that you don't know what the ice conditions are and the current there is really strong.
So if the current wasn't as strong, it'd be okay to walk on the ice.
They even have like little infographics where like the ice forms like little like peaks and like you could actually fall into like little sinkholes and then you're in the water.
And then that's really bad.
Yeah, no, that's no good.
Because it was once we got out in the open, like we were walking through trees and whatever.
Once we got out in the open, it was the wind was whipping like it was cold.
It dropped like 15 degrees.
And your dogs took a lot of snow baths.
I didn't realize that like because mine might have done that before, but not to the extent that like Loki.
Every time we stop, he's like, I got to roll around.
Yeah, he's always doing that.
He's always taking snow baths.
It was good.
So but that was the first time that the dogs met each other.
What were your first impressions of like my dog?
Griffin is definitely a potato.
She's a good dog.
She's just she seems like she's really used to living in California.
And like Phoenix is everything I expect her to be.
She's she's like a more vocal Izzy in a lot of ways, except she's not cuddly, which is easy.
Right.
But like it's it's weird because like you can see traits in my dogs and then you see the same traits in Phoenix.
I don't see them as much in Griffin, but they're sweet dogs.
Your dogs are amazing.
I love them.
I love Phoenix.
I love Griffin.
Yeah, she does talk a lot, though.
When you said that.
Oh my God.
More than you thought.
Right.
For your dogs.
Okay, so I was under the impression in my head that Griffin and Loki were the same size.
Oh, yeah.
They are not the same size.
No.
The first time I saw them next to each other.
I was like, maybe and then like Loki picked his head up and I was like, oh boy.
So he's he's actually a lot bigger than I thought he was going to be.
And I don't even think like it's just like how tall he is.
Like his head is huge.
I was like, I went to hug him and I was like, you are like hugging a very, very large person.
I knew he was going to be sweet and he's a good boy.
So like, I think the only thing that surprised me was like how long and how big he was.
On the other hand, Izzy, I didn't realize she was that cuddly, which is so cute because
I was like on the couch and there was just a tiny space.
And she was like, I'm just going to scooch right in here.
She sat down.
That was so cute.
But the other thing that like is that she's so tiny.
I didn't realize how small she was going to be.
And her face, like the same thing about Loki, like her face is so little.
And when we put them next to each other, like all the dogs.
So when we were at Point Pelee, like we walked, we walked all the dogs side by side and we'll
get to like a point that I want to make later.
But like Phoenix and Izzy were next to each other.
And I was like, wow, Izzy's even smaller than Phoenix.
I thought she was going to be like around the same size.
And it was more that Sasha was like the same size as Phoenix.
Yeah.
Sasha and Phoenix are about the same size.
In any of your stuff, Sasha looks bigger.
I don't know why.
Maybe it's because next to Izzy she looks larger.
Yeah.
Next to Izzy she looks bigger.
Izzy's actually pretty tall, but she's like really, really skinny and like she's got a
really small face.
She's petite.
Like everything on her is petite.
Everyone calls her the pocket husky.
But Sasha, my favorite, my girl, she was exactly, exactly as I imagined her to be.
And she reminds me a lot of Falcon.
So she's just like very, very much a husky.
Always trying to be in the front.
We're at Point Pelee and the four dogs are walking.
It's like you and me walking next to each other and your friend Hannah was behind us
and Sasha started losing her mind.
She was like, ah!
Why am I not in the front?
So we were like, do you want to pass?
And then they passed us and then we lost them.
Like we couldn't see them for a while.
Sasha was just on a mission.
She loves being in the front.
She does.
And I didn't realize how curly her tail was going to be.
It's so curly.
It's super curly.
I love it.
It's like curled over itself.
Oh, and then, okay, the best part though was she sat next to me on the couch and she
literally, she looked at me with her one eyeball.
She was like, who are you?
And I was like, this is all I wanted.
That's your girl.
That's my girl.
At Point Pelee, Steve just like unclipped Loki and Izzy from himself and then came
over and was like, here.
And then clipped them onto my walking belt and I'm like, oh my gosh.
I mean, Phoenix is 12.
Griffin's a potato, but we put your dogs on me.
And I was like, I'm being propelled forward.
And Steve tried to get in front and take a photo.
And Loki was like, dad, what are you doing up there?
And then he like turned on the afterburners and I'm, I'm like jogging.
I was like, ah, I'm walking.
And I turned around to look at you and I'm like, help.
I like cannon cross.
Like I like running with, with Griffin, but that's how I think it's supposed to be.
Like the minute my legs left the ground, I was like, I'm flying forward.
All right.
So that was Point Pelee.
And then that night I got to try one of my favorite things that I had in Canada.
I think it has to be my favorite thing that I've had in Canada.
Really?
You're going to say this is your favorite thing?
It's my favorite thing.
I like the poutine, but this is by far the best thing I've had.
Hang on.
You got to remember that the first thing that I said to you ever.
The first thing I, was it a live stream?
It was a live stream.
Some live stream.
I think I mentioned that I really liked Bloody Mary.
And I said, you needed to try a Caesar.
And you're like, what's a Caesar?
And I was like, what's a Caesar?
Yeah.
I didn't know.
They never caught on in the States.
I don't know why.
They're amazing.
Explain it to me, Steve.
Like you said it best.
Like you sat down and we went up to dinner with my friends, Matt and Amanda.
And I was like, we got to get her a Caesar.
And then you had said like, well, like, what is it?
Cause the only thing you really had to compare it to was a Bloody Mary.
And all three of us instantly all in the same.
No, no, no.
And then the waitress came later and then I was like, it's her first Caesar.
She was like, oh, like, oh, you've never had one before.
I'm like, oh no.
Like she's American.
Again, you brought up Bloody Mary's and the waitress.
No, no, no, no.
Completely different.
Yeah.
So, um, Bloody Mary is basically just tomato juice and vodka with some other
stuff in it, right?
A Caesar is Clamato juice.
So it has clam juice in it, which sounds, it sounds bad,
but they use pickle juice in it.
Wow.
Worcestershire sauce.
Uh, there's all these, everybody makes them differently,
but it's like just this magical concoction.
And you know,
you dress it with the pickles and olives and pickled green beans,
whatever you want, really.
And they have got rimmer on it.
So this got like a, a salty, spicy taste on the rim.
It tasted like a steak.
Like the stuff on the rim.
I was like, I would put this on my steak.
I don't know how to explain it.
Like a Bloody Mary is, is almost a little too sweet.
Now that I've, now that I've had a Caesar, I can never go back.
If you like pickles and you like pickled things.
And honestly, if you don't, red flag.
Red flag.
I'm just kidding.
But I'm not.
If you like things that are pickled.
Oh my gosh.
There was a whole spear, like a dill spear in there, an olive,
which I could have used more of and a pickled green bean,
which was my favorite.
I'm super happy that I got your, I filmed your reaction to that.
And like, and the thing is,
it's like you got here and you're like, we're both content creators.
So like, we don't have to like feel awkward about it.
And I was just like, I'm just going to record everything.
And I'm glad I did.
I'm glad you did.
Now I forever remember my first Caesar experience.
Yeah.
I finished that thing so fast and it didn't even taste like there was any
alcohol in it.
I had a whole point in my notes that was like Caesar, not even dog related,
but like guys, when you go to Canada, please order a Caesar.
This has been a public service announcement.
And the food was really good too.
Yes, it was.
I had ribs and then I had them again for breakfast the next morning.
Steve's just learning everything about me.
You're like, I tried to eat them before you woke up.
The next morning was the day we went dog sledding.
And I'm like, all right, I'm going to use up a lot of energy today.
I already know Steve's not a guy that eats breakfast.
I have to eat breakfast.
So like I pull out the ribs from the night before I eat them up and he's
outside like strapping the sled to the car.
And I'm like, let me just quickly like get these in before he comes inside
so he doesn't judge me.
And he walks in and I'm literally like.
I was like.
There were only two left, but that was just the right amount of ribs for
breakfast.
It was good.
I'm so glad I had breakfast because that takes me to my next point.
Taking the dogs out on the sled is so tiring.
You would think that, OK, they're going to they're going to pull you.
You're going to go for a nice ride.
But the entire process, like up to that point, they're like they're like
prized athletes that don't have to do anything.
And we just run around and do everything.
That's exactly how it goes.
I'm like getting my snow pants and everything on.
And Steve's like loading Loki and Izzy into his car.
And I come out and Sasha's just in the living room in her harness, just
going around in circles because she's so excited.
She was like, when's it going to be my turn?
When's it going to be my turn?
Oh, it was really cute.
And I was like, you OK over there?
And she didn't even look at me.
She just continued on her little excited circle.
That was cute.
Sasha's excited circle.
So we get there.
And first off, your street, you were saying they don't even plow until the
snow gets to I don't know how thick.
There has to be four inches of snow.
So the amount of four wheel drive I used on this trip was more than I've ever
used ever.
And I've taken my Jeep like off roading.
I was just like, wow, every time I turn onto a street, I don't know what I'm
going to get.
And we turn into this parking lot and the whole parking lot is ice.
I kid you not.
But nobody, not one person complained about it when we got there.
It was just like normal operating like operation.
What is it?
Normal business operation.
Business as usual.
Yes, it was.
Close but not quite.
And I get there and you come out and it's just like, oh, like every dog ever
is so excited.
And they're all just singing the song of their people.
And I come out and Steve's dogs are howling.
The dogs that are like already out and they're like waiting to like go are
howling.
Everybody's like talking to each other and howling.
And meanwhile, in my car, like you would not have known that there were
dogs in the truck because they were so quiet.
So to preface that, we went out with our group in Windsor,
the sled dogs of Windsor.
And we kind of have like a little community of people with sled dogs.
And what we do is we get together every weekend and we run our dogs.
And we help new people like learn how to do it.
We lend them equipment.
We, you know, give them advice and help them teach their dogs and stuff
like that.
So that's why there's so many dogs there because there's, you know,
a whole community that we've kind of built up.
It's pretty cool, honestly, to see like more people like us.
And I get there and, I mean,
maybe people listening to this are also in the Husky community.
So, you know, it all makes sense.
But like everyone has a walking belt.
Everyone is maintaining some sort of distance from each other.
They're all super experienced in this specific dog breed.
And it's crazy because like I lived in L.A.
and I'd never seen anyone else with a walking belt.
I would get people telling me all the time like,
why aren't you letting your dogs off leash?
And I'm like, you guys don't even know.
It was so cool to see other people like kind of not abiding by the same rules,
but kind of just like abiding by the same norms.
So Loki and Izzy are fast and they have a lot of energy.
So we had talked about hooking up Griffin and seeing how she did with Loki.
But I knew I had to run Loki and Izzy first.
Like there was no just hooking up Loki with Griffin.
Yeah, Griffin wouldn't have been able to keep up.
She's slow.
No.
So my idea was to run Loki and Izzy first together.
And it was a really cool place.
Like what was it called that we went to?
Black Oaks.
Yeah, it was nice.
Like the trails wind in there.
I guess that makes it more interesting.
And like I didn't realize that the sled had that much give.
So every time we turned like.
Oh yeah.
You like lean into it.
It was so cool.
It made me want to get a sled.
So the ride with Loki and Izzy was cool.
And then like in the middle somewhere Steve was like.
Alright I'll let you off and you can drive.
And I'll like go take a photo somewhere.
With both of us on the sled it was you know.
They can only go so fast.
But I knew that if I jumped off and ran ahead.
Then she could feel the full power of Loki and Izzy.
The power guys.
The power.
I didn't think that my head was going to whip back when we went.
But it did.
They were so fast.
You guys must whip through there.
Oh yeah.
It's actually a lot of fun.
The next time you'll come back maybe we'll get a bigger team.
And whip through there with some more power.
Yeah well you gotta tell me which turn.
Cause like I would have been more confident.
If I knew where I was going inside that place.
Right.
That was the problem is that there's a lot of turns.
And there's a lot of like different ways you can go in there.
Yeah I didn't want to end up somewhere.
That I didn't know.
Yeah you can get lost very easily.
So then after that.
Though after we got Loki and Izzy's like juice out.
We then did hook up Griffin to Loki.
And we got some photos of that.
But mostly she looks really confused.
She was very confused.
Like you can tell like Loki's like I love this.
And Griffin is like what are we doing here?
She was literally just running next to him like is this what we're supposed to do?
Yeah.
I don't think she was pulling at all.
Like I think it was Loki was doing all the work and she was just there.
The two of them pulling next to each other though.
They're not.
She's not as big as he is.
But she is pretty big.
So it like having them be next to each other.
It looked so legit.
Griffin was borrowing his harness.
They're both in red harnesses.
Yeah they look like twins.
And I think of all your dogs Loki was her favorite.
I think so too.
Yeah.
She kind of like had a crush on Loki I think.
I think she did.
I don't know what it was about Loki that just made her so okay with him.
Well we had the two of them in the backyard and you even said like I've never seen her play with another dog.
Yes and she went to play stands.
They ran after each other.
I was like I didn't think she knew how to play.
Turns out she's just really picky about who she plays with.
She needs a cute boy.
Oh that's what it is.
A cute like another tall boy.
So then after that right like.
Oh we went to the Greenway.
So we still wanted to do more stuff with the dog sled.
So we went to the Greenway which is an old rail trail.
And we hooked up all four of them.
We did.
And we finally got all I've ever wanted for Phoenix was for her to be able to do sled dog things.
Because she is very much a husky.
The minute like you hook her up to something she's like let's go.
Which is exactly what we got out of her which is really cute.
But because she has the two bionic legs we were like okay we don't know how long she's going to last for.
And we don't want to put a lot of strain on her.
So that was actually perfect.
And then at some point I was like okay she's falling behind we have to take her off.
But it was good.
But then that was good too because then we put Loki next to Griffin.
And then I think that's like one of the first time I've ran Izzy in single lead.
And she did really good.
She did great.
It was kind of cool too because like Izzy is this like tiny dog in single lead.
And then Loki and Griffin are like these two huge dogs in a wheel.
And I was like this is it isn't it.
And then you got to drive the sled.
Yeah I got to drive the sled.
It was a good time.
Your friends were so great.
Like you had two friends come out and help us.
Hannah again.
And she brought me an ice cap.
That's why she's MVP.
Like it really doesn't take much.
You just have to feed me.
Not me.
I'm not MVP.
In 90 she came out too.
Yeah so we had like people taking pictures, hooking dogs up.
It really was like they were like the star athletes.
And you made a comment about like how proficient we are with handling dogs.
Yes.
Just grab a dog.
Boom.
Yeah you guys are really good.
You're like oh here take this neckline.
Blah blah blah.
Like it was so efficient.
And I just stood there like I don't know.
Completely useless.
Like I'm just going to drive the sled.
If you've never been on a dog sled before.
Like the first time you're on it.
You just want to do it again.
And the dogs are so happy.
Like you can see it in every like video or photo that we have from the front.
Like your dog's tongues are like all the way out.
Yeah so after that.
Like that whole.
I mean we went out early.
And then we were back I guess fairly early too.
1230 I think it was.
Yeah it was just the morning your sister came over.
And like and at this point all five dogs had known each other.
They were all loose in the house.
Everyone was tired.
So we were like okay this is the perfect time.
Have all the five dogs out together.
And they all eventually like found the spot and curled up and took a nap.
And the last one standing was Phoenix.
Which surprised me.
I was like you're not even tired.
She's like give me more.
And she spun in like 17 circles and then laid down.
And finally after all the dogs were down I was like maybe.
Yeah you took a solid nap.
It was a solid nap.
You didn't even have a pillow or a blanket or anything.
You just like passed out.
I was like oh my god.
I think you were talking to me.
I was going in and out.
I was like Steve is having a conversation with me.
You're on the other couch.
And I was like uh-huh yep.
So then you finally passed out.
I went and I grabbed you a pillow and a blanket.
Oh I needed that.
I don't know why that made me so tired.
But it was exhausting.
I don't know why it makes me tired either.
But that's what I said to you.
See why I can't go out and do this in the morning and then edit videos after.
Yeah dude.
Because you need to be napping while your dogs nap.
So overall I would say really successful trip.
Super well planned out.
Your friends are awesome by the way.
Like every single person that I met was so cool.
And they all wanted to like have some sort of input on like what it was to be Canadian.
Which I love so much.
And I brought home.
I came back with so much stuff.
I ate almost a whole bag of ketchup chips.
And then I brought a whole bag back with me.
Which is completely finished now by the way.
I had those.
I had the maple cookies.
I had the fudge cookies.
Well I took you to the grocery store.
And I was like pick out everything you've never seen before.
And then you slapped a bag of milk.
I slapped a bag of milk.
I was like looking at Steve at the store like.
Do you ever play that game where you slap a bag of wine.
And he's like why would I do that.
And I'm like I don't know.
But record me slapping a bag of milk.
As you hand me your phone.
