Welcome back guys. This is the Tightwad and today we're talking about the dishwasher and our dishwasher ran
Earlier and I came into the kitchen and noticed that there's water coming out from the bottom of the dishwasher
so right now I'm going to start my
Diagnosis to find out what's causing the water leak
I went ahead and removed the lower rack from the dishwasher
So we'd have a little more room to work and you'll see in here that there's this little flexible lip right here under the front
edge where the door
meets the bottom of the dishwasher and
Those are actually replaceable. It's very easy to pull them out and to purchase a new one and slide it in
So I'll show you how to do that today
That is the leading cause of leaks in a dishwasher and it is way easier to fix than you might think
In order to pull your dishwasher out of the cabinet, you typically have two screws at the top
Very rarely, there'll be some down the sides, but most time it's just little straps right here at the top
So I'm gonna go ahead and remove those and then we'll pull the dishwasher out enough to get to the seal
With the dishwasher out a little bit
We can now reach in here and grab hold of this seal and just pull it out
It just pulls straight downward and then slowly work it out all the way across
Notice when I pulled it out, there's a little bit of a notch on this end that indicates that it's the right side
of the dishwasher seal
So it's easy to go online and search on
Amazon or another site I like to use called repair clinic to order a new lower door seal
You're gonna need the model number for your unit and on mine
It's just inside the door on the right hand side and my model number is right there
So I will now type that in Google to find the repair part that I need to purchase
I went to one of my favorite sites to find appliance parts called repair clinic and I typed in the model number that we
pulled from the dishwasher and
Then it pulled up my actual dishwasher and then I searched on the left side for a dishwasher door seal
And this is what came up. You can see it's nine dollars and six cents
But you can see that it says it's an alternative part. I like to order the OEM parts when available
So I then took that part number
For the genuine OEM part and I pasted it into Amazon and I came up with this part and you can see it's made
For and supplied by Frigidaire, which is the OEM part and it is 1243
And since it's only three dollars difference and some change
I will go ahead and order the part from Amazon because it's free shipping with my prime account and I'll get it within a day
Or two
Once your new part comes in. I like to stick my finger under it to guide it into the groove
But I'm gonna make sure that the right side of the piece is lined up with the right side of the door
Then I'm gonna guide it into the groove and you'll feel it start going into place and then you'll just push it in
All the way down
It should fit fairly easily into place
but just make sure it's in there good so it doesn't wiggle back and forth and up and down and
Check it all the way down
And then the first time you run your dishwasher
Make sure you keep an eye on it
So that you can tell if there are any leaks before it causes a big mess on the floor
I actually like to run it the first time again with a towel nearby
so if I do have a problem, I can immediately stop the dishwasher and
Dry up all the water
Now with our new seal installed. I'm going to slowly slide the dishwasher back into the cabinet again making sure not to
damage the trim molding
Until my screw holes line up here and I'm going to reinstall the two screws to hold it into place
With the screws in place. I'm going to close the dishwasher
And I'm going to check to make sure my side to side is good. If not, I'll adjust it
slightly
so the door
Opens and closes without rubbing on my cabinets. Then I'm going to run a test cycle to make sure everything is good to go
