Hello, this is the History magnifying glass.
When you encounter history, you will always see myth.
Myth and history seem to be at a crossroads, but they are not.
Myth is also created by the next generation of mankind by each culture,
so myth is strongly reflected in popular consciousness.
And in this myth, there is always a hierarchy among the gods.
Then, according to each myth,
who are the absolute gods at the peak of each god's hierarchy,
and what ability they have,
and what they admire and fear the most in each culture.
Let me introduce you to the absolute gods of the world's representative myths.
First, let me introduce you to the absolute god of Northern European German mythology.
Thanks to Marvel, Odin, who is now so famous, is the absolute god of Northern European German mythology.
It is Thor's father.
In Northern European German mythology, the main god is called the Assyrian god,
and the Assyrian god resides in Asgard,
and Odin is the ruler of Asgard.
Usually, the gods in the myth have one or two representative abilities,
but Odin has almost all the abilities.
He is also the god of wisdom, who knows everything in this world,
as he is the god of war that can destroy everything,
including various magic, various natural phenomena in the world, and life and death.
Odin said he spent one of his eyes as a sacrifice to gain all the wisdom in the world,
so Odin is described as the eye of a child.
And Odin stabbed his body with his own body,
18 kinds of magic.
Based on all the wisdom and magic that Odin learned,
he also created the root letter, which was the original letter of the Germanic people.
Unlike Odin described in Marvel,
Odin in myth is very arrogant and authoritative.
Odin uses a spear called Gungnir,
and if he pierces the spear, he can hit it unconditionally if he throws any target.
Odin is carrying two crows that bring all the information and knowledge in the world,
and two wolves that can resurrect the dead soldiers from the battlefield into Odin's soldiers.
Before Odin appeared, there was a wizard named Ymir,
and Odin killed Ymir with his two brothers and created the world with his bodies.
Odin, who had all the wisdom in the world, also had the ability to see the future,
so he knew Ragnarok, which Asgard was destroying,
so he tried to stop Ragnarok, but in the end Ragnarok exploded,
and Odin was caught by a giant wolf, Pelir, who was fighting with the gods.
The Germanic Vikings always had a ritual with Odin when they went to the battlefield,
and there was a culture of spear fighting right before the battle.
Thursday originated from Thursday,
and Wednesday also originated from All In's Day.
Zeus, the absolute god of Greek and Roman mythology, is known to all of us.
Zeus is also the god of thunder and lightning.
Not only Zeus, but in each myth, there are many gods who are in charge of thunder and lightning.
Ancient humans recognized thunder and lightning as the most powerful natural phenomenon.
Just as Odin created Asgard, Zeus created Olympus.
Zeus also removed Cronus with his two brothers before building Olympus,
and Cronus was Zeus's father.
In fact, Cronus also removed Uranus, the god of the sky, his father,
and became the king of the gods.
Zeus, along with his brothers and his sons,
won the war against his father Cronus and his brothers, the Titans,
and kicked Cronus out.
In each myth, there is a salvo motif.
The salvo motif was not a personal grudge,
but a inevitable struggle to become the leader of the gods.
So, the salvo motif is often interpreted as the end of the previous generation or the beginning of a new era.
Zeus is probably the most famous wind-lover,
and Odin was just as much of a wind-lover as Zeus.
In each myth, the highest gods are often described as wind-lovers,
which is said to symbolize the strong vitality of a divine being that must create heaven and earth.
In Sumerian mythology, a myth from Mesopotamia, the birthplace of human civilization,
Anu god is the absolute god.
Anu god means Anu or Anun sky, and Anu god is the god of the sky.
Anu god is a little different from the absolute gods of other myths,
and he does not interfere with the affairs of the earth.
He only controls the gods.
He entrusts the authority of the earth to his son, the god of the wind.
Anu god has the highest right of trial as an absolute god,
and anyone who is a god can judge him,
and the troops that Anu god leads are composed of soldiers made of stars.
But was it because Anu god did not intervene in the affairs of the earth?
Despite being the absolute god of Anu god,
in the Babylonian civilization of Mesopotamia, the Anu god's worship is not so strong,
and there are very few sculptures that come down to the temple.
In the statues that come down to the temple, Anu god is holding a king's ring,
that is, a scepter, and has a huge ring on his body.
And he often wears a crown with a cow's horn.
Let's move on to Egyptian mythology.
Egyptian mythology is very complicated.
When it was the world of gods before the age of man,
the king and absolute god who ruled Egypt was Osiris.
Osiris's wife was his sister, Isis,
and she was having an affair with another sister.
The problem is that the other sister Osiris had an affair with
was the wife of her brother Seth.
Angry Seth killed his brother Osiris,
cut his body into 14 pieces, and threw it into the Nile River.
The sisters found all the bodies of Osiris,
but they couldn't find only the spirit.
Because the fish ate the spirit.
So Isis, the wife of Osiris,
made the shape of the spirit with a bandage
when her husband Osiris was buried,
put it in his mouth, and brought it back to life as a magical spirit,
and made a relationship with the body of her husband, who became a mummy,
and then adopted his son Horus.
Due to Osiris's mythology,
Egypt regarded Osiris as the god of death.
When a person dies,
the god Anubis, who guides a person's soul to the afterlife,
takes the soul to Osiris,
and Osiris measures the heart of the dead person with a scale,
and judges the severity of the soul of the dead person.
If the soul is heavier than a feather,
it is judged to have fallen into hell,
and the soul is eaten by Amut, the monster of hell.
The god of death was the god of life in the Egyptian culture,
and the best god of Egypt, who is more virtuous than Osiris, is Ra.
If Osiris is involved in the death of humanity and life,
the god of creation, who created the universe and the world in Egyptian mythology, is Ra.
However, it was not until a long time after creating Osiris
that the Egyptians created the absolute god Ra in mythology.
As time went by, the power of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, became stronger,
and Pharaoh promoted himself as the god of Ra,
or the descendant of Ra, to show his authority.
In Indian mythology, Bishnu, Shiva, Brahman,
and the three gods are considered the absolute gods.
Among the three gods, the highest god is Bishnu.
Bishnu has four arms, each holding a cymbal, a stick, a lotus flower, and a mace,
and he rides a bird.
Bishnu is said to be the god who maintains the world.
Among the other two gods, Shiva is the god of destruction.
It is said that there is nothing that Shiva cannot destroy with his trident.
So it is said that there was a time when natural disasters were interpreted as Shiva gods.
Brahman is the god of creation.
If you have ever heard of Indian mythology,
you may wonder why there is no Indra.
Indian mythology started with Vedas,
but it was gradually influenced by Hinduism,
and the transformation of Vedas changed to Hinduism.
Bishnu, Shiva, and Brahman were not so popular in Vedas,
but they became the highest gods as they moved on to Hinduism.
The absolute god in Vedas was the god of heaven, Dyaus.
The brain god Indra is the son of Dyaus.
Indra killed his father Dyaus and became the highest god,
but as he moved on to Hinduism, Bishnu, Shiva, and Brahman appeared,
so Indra became the highest god except for Bishnu, Shiva, and Brahman.
When the two civilizations come together,
Hinduism, which is superior,
is interpreted as a mythological transformation that appears by absorbing Vedic culture vertically.
Let's look at Han Zhongyi.
The highest god in China is the third emperor,
and among them is Yehua and Boki.
The two gods are called siblings.
In some Chinese mythology, Boki is the god who precedes Yehua,
but Yehua is the mother who gave birth to mankind,
so it should be seen as a god who precedes Boki.
Yehua is said to have a human upper body and a snake lower body,
but Professor Lee Jung-tae, a historian of China,
argues that Yehua was a frog, not a snake's lower body.
He believes that Yehua's Wawa benefited from the frog's Wawa.
Frogs were accepted as animals that formed pregnant women,
and in the primitive era, where fertility and wealth were more important than anything else,
they gave birth to women who could get pregnant.
Boki is the upper body of a human and the lower body of a snake,
and in mythology, snakes symbolize men.
In Yehua, Boki's transformation is interpreted as a duality between the mother's society and the father's society,
but as the father's society became established, the existence of the mother's society has been distorted.
In order to make Yehua a subordinate existence of Boki,
they make Yehua and Boki siblings,
or make Yehua and Boki a couple,
or Boki appears as a god who precedes Yehua,
emphasizing Boki's superior existence.
The top three gods in Japan are Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, and Susanoo.
These are not the first gods.
In the world of gods, Shinto, there were five gods who were in charge of creation in the beginning.
Seven of their next-generation gods went down to the earthly world,
and Izanami and Izanagi made Japan out of them.
The three gods born when Izanagi took a bath were Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, and Susanoo.
In the case of Korea, the most popular myth is the Hwanung Dangun myth.
However, the Hwanung Dangun myth was not a myth that spread from the beginning in the Manchu and Korean Peninsula,
that is, in the Goseong River.
It was an enlarged myth of a certain tribe.
According to the Korean History Research Institute,
various groups of regions became war-torn due to the development of weapons,
and among them, the dominant groups gradually unified and grew into a larger force.
The name Joseon was the name of a political body that represented a certain region in this process.
And the Dangun myth also developed into a group of Shijo myths in this process,
and later became the founding myth of the entire Gojoseon nation.
Let's talk about the middle-south myth.
First of all, the best god in the Maya myth is Ichamna.
Ichamna is a god who created geniuses and created mankind at the same time.
Ichamna is a god of fire, a god of art, and a god of plants.
In other words, it means that it combines destruction and creation.
The kings of the Maya civilization always put Ichamna's god in the prince,
and Ichamna's god has an old man's face and a sharp nose.
Ichamna is also a god of day and night, so he controls time.
The calendar that Ichamna gave to the Maya people was only available until 2012,
so the end of the earth theory was once popular in 2012.
Lastly, let's look at the Inca myth.
The absolute god of the Inca myth is Viracocha.
Viracocha is also a god who created geniuses, including the sun and moon.
Viracocha told mankind what civilization needed so that the Inca civilization could thrive.
However, when mankind, who had lost civilization, fought each other,
Viracocha, who felt destruction, gradually disappeared into the sea.
We've looked at the representative absolute gods,
and if there's another absolute god I haven't covered, please share it in the comments.
Then it was a history of reading.
