Welcome, dear viewers, to our format Nature Medicine.
Today we can dive into the exciting world of survival together again.
And what I find so beautiful about my two experts is that it is not about fighting in nature,
but again about the connection and really also about knowledge and intuition and mindfulness.
And today we are talking in particular about what it means for our health,
when we have less comfort again, when we move more, when we are in nature.
And I am allowed to talk about this exciting topic today with Niklaus Hippe.
He is a survival coach and survival expert.
And Benedikt Fuchs, he is also a survival coach.
Two very experienced men who have really mastered very difficult situations,
who have an incredibly great knowledge and are already dealing with it from an early age.
I'm looking forward to it. Stay tuned.
Hello, dear Niko. Hello, dear Benedikt.
I have two such excellent experts.
And I think it's really nice, as I said at the beginning, that you have such mindfulness
and also intuition.
And as you said in another program, that you are really aware,
that you really look at what is around you again.
Not just when you are in a, let's say, survival week or something.
And I think that's very nice.
Exactly, yes.
That's also the case when I'm out in nature and bring my attention to nature.
So I realize what's going on outside, which animals, which plants,
what the flow of life is like in nature.
And if I'm out there long enough, it always turns around and goes back to myself.
So this awareness, this attention also goes back to me.
And I pay more attention to myself again.
Automatically, when I'm out in nature, I pay more attention to myself.
How am I doing right now? What can I do to make me feel better?
Which paths do I have to take so that I can be healthy again in general
and can be out and about?
Yes, very nice.
And I just notice that we live in a world today that is so cut off
from the things that are actually natural,
that we cause a lot of diseases.
If you look at all the allergies that have developed in the last 20 years,
20 years ago there was not yet the term, as far as I know, lactose intolerance or something.
Or these 100 different things.
Why?
Because we drink milk, for example, which is simply no longer healthy.
The question is, was milk healthy for us?
In between, what the cows produce into the milk,
because we keep them the way we keep them, is simply not healthy.
If we look at the grain, how it is grown, that is not healthy.
If we look at our everyday life, where we turn on the light in the evening
so that we can continue to live the day, although actually nature would say,
now it's getting dark, now we can go to sleep soon.
All these things that were actually natural in the past
and where you couldn't resist,
now you can change it all artificially.
And that's how so many diseases arise.
We don't even have to talk about overweight.
Overweight is, among other things, because you don't have to move as much as you used to.
Then the next topic is diabetes, for example.
We eat carbohydrates in the morning, lunch and dinner.
Carbohydrates and a lot of sugar, of course.
Carbohydrates are turned into sugar and at some point it will be too much for the body
if we only eat sugar.
There used to be times when there wasn't much to eat, for example in winter.
Then you lived a lot on meat and fish because it was more available in winter
or a few more potatoes in the basement when you grew up.
But then you also had a lot of meals, if you had anything to eat at all,
where you just had fat and protein.
And then it came back to balance.
And so you can look at so many areas.
My favorite area, because it also affected me a lot,
is also stress management.
How many of us have had burnouts or are constantly overloaded?
And you just notice that we have too many possibilities of what we can do.
Then you want to do this, do that, try this out and so on.
And you always have to bring more performance, even at work.
You always want to create growth.
It's not natural that you always create growth.
But at some point nature grows and then it dies off again.
But it's not just about growing.
These are all points where I say that these are diseases of civilization
that are definitely related to our lifestyle.
And now the question is, of course, what can you do
to get back to health, also internally?
What also comes with it, of course, is the distraction factor.
That means I have a lot of opportunities not to deal with myself at all,
but I come home tired and stressed from an exhausting working day
and turn on the TV and then I lie down in bed
and hope that the next day will be better.
And that's how I block this healing process,
this process that I deal with myself.
And in our case, survival training, nature is a good medium,
a good bridge to start this healing process.
And we notice it.
It was like that for me, I noticed it for myself.
And I think I'm saying the same thing for you.
And we already notice it in those who visit us,
customers who have already taken many courses.
And that doesn't just affect the individual people,
but we also notice that it is family-wide.
Here, too, we have the same problems.
Parents who have children, for example,
who spend too much time in front of some flimsy boxes,
TV, computer and so on,
who don't want to go out at all.
And where, I would say,
family-wide social problems arise for various reasons,
especially in recent years,
where they weren't allowed to meet outside at all and things like that.
And now we have the opportunity to bring people back to nature
and thus also back to themselves.
And all of this via medium survival or nature.
And that is extremely valuable.
So much happens in one.
I have also noticed that by chance in life
this survival came to me.
It's not like I said,
I now want to learn to live in nature without equipment.
That's not the goal of survival for us,
but actually for us the goal is to live in harmony again.
And you can also live well in the house.
But the exciting thing was really that we got this chance,
our knowledge from centuries,
millennia of old,
or from millennia of old knowledge.
This knowledge that really came from the natives of North America,
from a person who decided many years ago
to devote his life to the preservation of this knowledge,
who really left his tribe for 63 years of his life,
an Indian,
and wandered through North and South America
and visited all the elders and learned from them.
Because he knew that if one generation does not pass on this knowledge,
it will die out.
And we are still young and on the way.
It's not like we're ready-made survival trainers.
For me, I will never be ready.
When I die, I will still not be ready,
because I am always on the way.
And that's so exciting that we didn't invent it ourselves,
that survival, that's how you could do it and so on,
but that it really is the culture of the past,
which can still live with it.
And this knowledge is so, so old and so wise,
that the longer you do it and live,
the deeper the realization of what else is behind it,
what you didn't even notice at the beginning.
That's a great gift.
And also for the children,
because I said it once in the interview,
a friend of mine said,
the kindergarten teacher wrote,
the children have to practice going into the forest,
because they can't do that anymore,
before they go to kindergarten.
And I thought, as a girl,
we're in the forest and we've been building huts all day.
It was such a magical world
and you were so connected to nature.
And when the children don't have that anymore,
so much is missing from the earth
and from natural adventures too, right?
Yes, absolutely.
That's the point where we also said,
the more you move away from nature,
the more unhealthy life becomes,
because it becomes more unnatural.
And then you have to beautify your life
with medication and coffee and whatever,
so that you can manage your everyday life well.
And if you can really get back into this harmony,
into being one with the earth,
we are a part of the earth.
And it's so nice when you develop this feeling again
and then you realize what life actually means.
How wonderful nature is.
It's so nice when you're so old.
Did you also learn that from this man?
Or where did you learn that?
It started with his student.
Ah, yes, so great.
Beautiful.
Exactly, although you have to say,
it didn't stop there,
but these natural peoples around the globe
all have this red thread in them.
Whether you are in North America,
South America, in the Aborigines
or somewhere in the steppes of Africa.
The natural peoples all have more or less
this similar knowledge,
of course specialized in their place,
but the red thread is the same.
It's about this root,
that we are still a part of nature,
that we are the mother earth,
and that they can learn from it and learn again.
And as soon as you go out again,
it starts again.
This healing process starts immediately.
You can feel it after an hour,
after a day when I'm out,
when I haven't had it for a long time
and when I hear the birds again,
it touches me immediately.
It's not like I take a pill
and maybe it helps,
but it's like I go out
and after half an hour I arrive.
Yes.
And with me again, and in nature.
And I think it's also, as you say,
a very big mental question,
because when we experience again
that we can take responsibility,
that we can tackle things,
that we can experience real adventures,
that's really a mental challenge for us,
of course,
because what you do there,
partly without equipment,
it's almost unimaginable for me
how that works.
I have a lot of respect for that.
And I think you can sometimes
come to the limits, right?
Yes.
And I have to say,
where does life take place?
Life takes place at the border.
Yes.
Where do we live, for example?
We live on earth.
We don't live on earth
and we don't live in the air.
We live on earth.
And where is life possible?
Only a few kilometers
between the earth's surface
and further up.
That's where life is,
on the border layer, so to speak,
between universe and earth.
And if we look at where in nature
most of the life is,
then it's on the edges of the forest,
where meadows and forests cross,
or on the river,
where water flows into the country.
Most of life takes place
on these border areas
and that's the most diverse life.
And if we look at our inner self,
when do we grow the most?
When do we become more mature?
Then it's at the points
where we have reached limits.
And that's a bit of a sad thing,
that in our current culture,
in our current system,
you always try to make it
as easy as possible.
So all the consumption is also stimulated
with things that make life easier.
But who can still read a map today?
Everyone has the address,
click on Google Maps and off you go.
And that's also something nice.
But the question is,
who can still orient themselves?
If you don't have Google Maps
or your cell phone battery is empty,
then many of them are already abandoned.
You don't remember
that you could ask people,
where are you going?
And whenever you make life easier,
skills are lost.
And you just have to be aware of that,
that at the moment
when you voluntarily
look for boundaries again
and get to know your own boundaries,
with joy and fun.
And that can be hard at times,
but then you realize
how you have an experience of success.
If you remember
how you did your matura or your abitur
or some other final exam
or something,
how you fought for it
and it was really hard
and you were desperate
and you didn't feel like it anymore.
And then came the exam
and you already had it here.
And then you made it.
And after that,
this experience of success,
I made it.
And then there is something to celebrate.
And if we don't put ourselves
in this situation
where it can be hard,
then there is nothing to celebrate.
Then our life becomes monotonous.
And then you need artificial,
how should I say,
an artificial kick
or you have to live it virtually.
And at the same time,
it is the case here
that in a survival situation
or in survival training,
it is important
that you have coaches
who accompany you.
Because as Nico says,
if you move to the limits,
that is a very narrow degree.
First of all, I have to say,
the survival training like we do now,
for example,
has nothing to do
with what many people imagine.
Many people know it
from the pictures,
where you line up
with a helicopter
and jump with a parachute
and eat worms and stuff.
That has nothing to do with it,
but it's about a holistic life.
And we as coaches
and the more experienced,
the better it is.
We see each other very closely.
Who is coming to us
and where is he?
So no one needs to be afraid
that when he, for example,
books a training,
that from the beginning
he has to be naked
somewhere in winter.
Because many people believe that.
They think,
no, that would be nothing for me,
I couldn't do that.
But we pick up the people
where they are
and then accompany them
on their way.
Also with equipment
where you can really
touch yourself a little.
You touch yourself.
You go step by step
as always in life.
I can't go from 0 to 100,
but I have to learn
to feel good again.
Then I sleep in the sleeping bag.
Then I notice it's raining.
Maybe it's not as bad
as I thought it was.
It's not that cold at all.
And then we show
how we can leave the sleeping bag.
Then we teach
how to make a fire with wood.
And the fewest can do that.
When they go out
and then they get
a pack of wood from us
and then they open it
and there's only one in there.
And then, ah, I can do that anyway,
I've done it a hundred times.
And zack, and it goes out
because I didn't pay attention
to the wind.
Then the wrong material.
Then they learn
with wood.
And if they can do that,
they learn another method
how to leave out wood.
And so you move
step by step
on this path to learning.
So to the professional, so to speak.
And we already have
some students now
who really
have done the master exams,
you could say,
our evaluation,
who then go out
and can really survive
without anything for a while.
Yes, and I also heard
that in the real wilderness.
Yes, yes.
But with us,
it was just a little bit more
difficult.
Yes, we then go somewhere else.
Yes.
And that is very important,
that you can do everything in between.
But you don't start in the middle,
but you start slowly
and do it step by step.
And then you learn in there.
Yes.
And you don't have to,
you can go as far as
you want, right?
Absolutely.
And the danger is,
if you go too far
away from your comfort zone,
that you then go into trauma.
Yes.
And trauma processing,
I think everyone can confirm that
from the viewers.
Trauma processing is so much more work
than if we didn't go in there,
but if we had left our comfort zone,
but only so far that we can grow
without going into trauma.
Yes.
And that also has a lot to do
with mindset.
So we have a year-round training
where you learn for a year
how to find yourself again,
how to survive in nature.
And there is also a lot of
personality development coaching
in there.
That means Benni teaches
a lot there.
You meet regularly
and work on topics like
where are blockages,
where are inhibition thresholds,
where are you standing right now,
where is it going well,
what can you celebrate,
but where do you have to
maybe also see
how to get on.
And every successful person
in the world has some kind of coach.
Yes.
And that is so important
that you just understand
that you can achieve exactly
what you want in life
and you can live your dream
if you get on the way.
Yes.
And that takes strength.
But I know a lot of people
who are stuck at some point
for years or decades
and don't get anywhere.
And every time you meet,
they complain.
How many of you
know such people?
Yes.
Who always complain
that something is always terrible.
Yes.
And that's where it's so exciting.
It's only in here
whether life is terrible
or whether it's beautiful,
whether it's paradise,
even if it's hard.
And that's so exciting
because nature gives us
the perfect tool,
the perfect tool
so that we can go in there
and learn exactly that
to get to our center,
to get to our fulfillment.
And I am so grateful
that we are now at a point
where we dare
to teach that too.
It is really so
that we, I think,
we have already come a long way
as a coach and educator
and teacher
because we were also
allowed to gain a lot of experience.
But I still see the way
in the next decades
where it is so exciting
when we can all continue to grow.
And I mean,
what our participants tell us,
what they have experienced
and what huge development steps
they take in one year.
We are allowed to accompany them.
That's a blessing.
We can be grateful for that.
And then we have a 17-year-old boy
and a,
I don't even know how old she is,
over 50-year-old woman
after one year of training
in Sweden in the wilderness
left alone.
Wow.
Without everything,
no knife with her.
If they have a knife with them,
you call it camping,
our teacher said.
Yes.
And after five days
we picked her up.
There was a fire.
There was a warm house
where she could sleep well.
But it had been raining
all the time.
And she had prepared
warm food.
She had found drinking water
and she was fine.
Wow.
And that's so great
to see something like that,
that such an experience of success
is possible.
And I would like to thank
my trainers and my teachers
who have spent so much energy
of their lives
to promote their growth
and to go through situations
that they have made
to the people
they became
and to the people
they became
and to the people
that they became
and to the people
that they became
so that we could
teach them well.
And we have developed
an education
that works
on different levels.
So, once you have
in our education
you do it for a year
you go out ten times.
So, almost once
every month
and are just
ten months
outside in nature
and learn
in these ten months
how beautiful life
is outside
and how little
you need.
And you really notice
at the beginning
it's like this,
people come with
a huge backpack
and maybe
a backpack
and maybe
a backpack
and after one year
they come with
such a small
daily backpack
and actually
don't need anything
and are completely
in luck
and look forward
to these trainings
without being
overloaded.
You really have to look
and everyone
doesn't have to
arrive there
after one year.
You can also
just stand somewhere else.
So, we don't compare
among each other.
And then we have
more points
in our annual education.
Maybe you can
go into that.
So, of course,
the topic of food
is a big topic.
Drowning is a big topic.
Fire is a big topic.
Water is a big topic.
Food, of course.
And that's always
very multifaceted.
So, when I say,
for example,
water,
it's not just
where do I find water,
but how do I find water?
There are ecosystem indicators,
plants that show me that,
also the water quality,
the same with food.
Where do I find
which food
in which season?
Which plants
can I eat?
If I know that,
I also know
which ones
I can't eat.
The same with animals
and so on.
That means we learn
very extensively,
extremely a lot
in the year.
Not just about themselves,
but also about nature,
what roots you again,
what earths you again
and everything else.
So the cycle
closes.
That's one part.
A big part
are also projects
that we have.
That means,
for example,
we have a boat tour
in the annual program,
where we really go out
together
and do a lot of things.
We have a lot of
different activities
and activities.
We have a lot of
activities
where we go out
together
and are in another place
every day
and build everything up again
there,
find our water again
and that in the group,
the community,
is gigantic
which is formed.
That means like a family
which is formed
at the end of the year.
It's a family.
That's really
a very deep
connection
which is formed there.
Of course,
we also accompany
at home
because the impressions
are gigantic
and then you come home
to your world
and then you
maybe have
the family there
and that was
a topic
at the very beginning
that we noticed
that they come home
and there is
such a crash
between
the emotions
and the experiences
and you have to
pick that up
and we accompany
here at home
as well.
That's exactly
what Nico said
when the mental training
comes along
where we accompany
that this transition
fits again
that you don't
somehow fall into
some trauma
at home
but that you
can learn there
further.
We have prepared tasks
for at home
and you get
an order
where you get
a lot of different
tasks
that you have to
solve on your own
and have to
write things together
and read material
so there is
a huge
package
that we tied
there
that is as
holistic
as we
managed it
and I think
we did
quite well.
And at least
in terms of
the time
it took
At least
that's
the feedback.
We tied
such a package
that really
accompanies
from A to Z
and not only
live in nature
but also at home
because that's
where people
need it.
It's not about
us teaching people
that they
survive outside
without a knife
that is
obvious
that's what it's
about
but only the obvious
but we
consist of
many more levels
and we
take it
with us
home
to our
families
we take it
with us
home
to our
daily life
job
and there
these experiences
are really
valuable.
There
I harvest
the fruits
of my
investment
in myself.
I have to
say
the word
survival
has a
completely
different
meaning
than
I
would
have
imagined
it would
have
been
if I
didn't
have
this
experience
and
I
didn't
have
this
experience
and
I
didn't
have
this
experience
and
I
didn't
have
this
experience
and
I
couldn't
have
this
experience
I
would
have
never
have
this
before
in
my
life
.
if you have family at home, you can also just say, hey, I'll take my kids with me to the trainings,
then they can also be out with me on the weekend. Often you have communities again,
that you practice fire drilling together at home or matchmaking fire and suddenly a connection
is created again to the children, who may already be a lot in the virtual world and are no longer
in real life, to build real muscles, right? To really develop for life,
to feel ready to take on challenges, because every life brings challenges and if you
don't face them, but always flee, then you become weaker instead of stronger. I think that's so
nice that the family can also be involved and can also come to the trainings and so on.
So great work. I would like to briefly mention one point. We've been thinking about it for a
long time, because the topic is so important to us, as far as financial education is concerned,
and we really want everyone to be able to do it. So it's not about us
getting rich with it now, but it's such an important thing for the world that we
said we are also creating this program in a financial way, so that really for everyone
there is a solution. And you can also find it on our homepage,
you can also go into conversation with us and then inform yourself very intensively about this
annual training. And you can only start with a basic course at first, if I may
say so. Just come for a basic beginner course for just one weekend and see
if it's something for me at all. And maybe you can just look on our website
what offers are available. The website is survival-coach.com, not survival-couch,
but survival-coach.com and just go on there and then you will find all these
possibilities, what offers are available. Maybe you can just see what
mood you are in when you are interested in this topic. So great, I can only admire what you have
done. It was nice of you to be there. Thank you very much, dear Nico, thank you very much, dear
Benedikt. Dear viewers, thank you very much and it really reminded me
again who we really are. We are also creatures of nature, we are actually
connected to the earth and even if you are not doing survival right now, you can
give an input, go out into nature again, maybe experience something like that as a family
or just take on one of these great offers. It was nice of you to be there. See you again.
