The Four Great Paths Created by Two Hands
Today, there are many conveniences.
We want to do anything easier with the tools,
tools and technologies that surround us.
Sometimes we forget that the evidence of all those conveniences
comes partly from the work of the workers,
who are the drivers of development for this world with sweat and physical strength.
Today, we will take you to see the work of the people
who have made great contributions to many people
to benefit and create comfort for the next generation.
1. The Suez Canal
The canal in Egypt is 193 km long
between Europe and Asia,
connecting the Mediterranean Sea with the Red Sea.
However, shipping between Europe and Asia
must go through Africa first
or else it will use the way of shipping on land
along with shipping by boat, which is not convenient.
The excavation of this canal
has greatly reduced the time and distance to travel by boat.
For example, a boat trip from Britain to India
using the Suez Canal
will be shorter than a boat trip around Africa to Rao
8,000 km.
The first phase of this canal excavation
requires a large number of workers.
The difficulty and the extreme care of the workers
caused many workers to die
and were opposed by many countries.
Later, they had to use the water from the canal to help with the excavation.
Today, the Suez Canal is still an important shipping route.
More than 20,000 boats pass through it every year.
And recently, the Egyptian government
has also started the Suez Canal Expansion Program.
2. The magnificent road
built with the efforts of only one person
Daras Manji, who has a long history
is known later as Khon Phukhao.
Manji is just a poor laborer
who lives in the village of Kallor, Kaya District,
the capital of India.
Every day, his wife will bring him lunch.
But the way from home to his workplace
is extremely difficult.
He has to climb over the rocky mountain.
And one day, his wife fell off the mountain
and broke his ankle.
But he couldn't take him to the hospital
because of the difficulty of the road.
This caused Manji to have amnesia
and wanted to destroy the mountain that was blocking him
to fall into the abyss of difficulty.
Then his wife died
because she couldn't take him to the doctor.
The loss of a loved one is more painful
for Manji to get up and change what he was.
He fought his way through the rocky mountain
with all his strength
until everyone thought he was crazy.
There were only laughing people around him.
He worked hard, but he had to eat
because he had no money.
Sometimes he had to eat leaves for the rest of his life.
Even though he was physically weak,
his energy never ran out.
Ten years later, the way through the mountain
began to take shape.
Now there are people who see the value.
There are people who help with food,
pay money to buy mining equipment.
But everyone has to make food
because there are only poor people.
Manji had to work alone
for a long time, up to 22 years.
Finally, he succeeded.
The road through the rocky mountain
uses only human energy.
The route from 2502 B.C. to 2524 B.C.
has a length of 110 meters,
a width of 9.1 meters,
and a depth of 7.6 meters from the top of the mountain.
It has become a way for everyone to use
and is still a lesson of love
for a man who has to leave his wife.
When Raj Manji was 73 years old,
the government held a grand funeral for him.
His story of love and strong energy
was used to create the movie
Manji The Mountain Man.
Even though he was going to say goodbye,
the sacrifice and name of Raj Manji
would still be called the name of the road he built
and will live in the heart for as long as possible.
3. Karakoram Highway
If you have ever heard the name
Karakoram Mountain,
you may have imagined
how steep this mountain is.
This mountain covers a wide area
from China, Pakistan, and India.
The surrounding sceneries
are only steep rocky mountains
and cold snow.
The K2 mountain, which is the second highest in the world,
is part of Karakoram.
Karakoram Highway
has been honored
as the highest highway in the world.
Even though there is a road,
it is still difficult to travel
on this land.
Therefore, it can be guessed that
the construction of this road
must be many times more difficult.
This road was built in 2502
by the cooperation of China and Pakistan.
It took more than 20 years to complete.
At least 810 people lost their lives
in Pakistan.
About 200 Chinese people
were killed in the accident
and fell off the mountain
in exchange for the road
that paved the way for this great adventure.
4. Gualiang Umong
The road was built
by carving a stone wall
in front of the mountain
in the remote mountainous area
of Qinxiang, China.
It is the road between the outside world
and the village of Gualiang,
a small village that has existed for a long time.
It is said that
during the reign of King Han,
a group of rebels against the king
fled to live in the deep mountains
and live in a country
that is difficult to reach
because of the power of capitalism.
The high mountains
have kept them away
from the outside world
for a long time.
Nowadays,
when people need to travel
to the outside world,
the mountains that used to be a barrier
have become a major obstacle.
They want to have a route
that is easier to travel
than climbing the mountains.
But the government still sees
that it is not worth investing millions
to build a road through the mountains
for only 300 people.
The villagers,
led by Song Mingxin,
decided to build a road
by themselves.
In 2015,
they decided to sell
important animals
to raise funds to buy
tools for cutting stones.
Don't think of electric tools
or saws as good as today
because their main tools
are only hammers and chisels.
The main force is only 13 villagers,
one of whom
has to die during construction.
The excavation
has 30 windows
to receive light
and is also a window
for throwing stones
during the excavation.
In the most difficult part
of the excavation,
the villagers have to spend
3 days to cut stones
within a distance of 1 meter.
And to complete
a 1,250-meter-long,
5-meter-high,
and 4-meter-wide tunnel,
it takes up to 5 years.
On August 1, 2015,
Umong Kualieng
became a tourist destination
that people all over the world
wanted to visit
so that they could
take a step forward
once in their lives.
