Luxury Apartment In Nairobi / Ready To Move In?

So after sleeping in a rooftop tent in Namibia for over a week, now that we are back in Nairobi, we decided to go on a little staycation in a brand new hotel that you probably didn't even know existed. Yeah, no. It's very tempting. I'm not going to lie. Just like lock ourselves in. We're not going to do that. No. But anyways, we're here at Dusit Princess Hotel. They have a residence as well. That's where we're staying. And if the picture on the TV that I'm looking at is as nice in real life, this could be the coolest bar that we've gone to. This looks epic. Yeah. Look at this place. It looks so cool. So welcome to our one-bedroom apartment here. When you come in, you have a kitchen, and you guys may know if you've been following along closely, I love the type of fridges that are kind of blood right into the kitchen. Fantastic. Then you have a table here. They even have some goodies over for us, which is great. We have a living room here, which is actually spacious where it's all connected to the kitchen, the open concept. I'm going to swing into the bedroom. King size bed here. And then if you follow through, bathroom, shower. Now, something that is really cool is they even have a laundry room here, because where this can be booked as a residence, so like a long-term stay, you don't have to worry about sending your laundry anywhere. You can do it yourself right here. One more aspect to show. Left. Yeah. The best for last. Why not? Come on. A beautiful corner balcony. Not just like this tiny balcony that just comes out a couple feet. No, you have a spacious balcony to enjoy your meals, your coffee, whatever you want. And now it is happy hour here from five to seven. It is five on the dot, meaning that we are on the eighth floor at Averee Bar. I think this is how you pronounce it. And let's see if it's as cool as on the photos, because the photos look stunning. So cool. You guys know that Tracy and I are happily married, meaning that I have to wear a wedding band every single day. But if there's one thing I hate, it's to wear the same ring every single day. So when you come into the bar, it actually is as cool as it looks. There's about four different styles. Over here, you have more of a like low-key chilling area. It'd be cool if you had like your laptop working, coffee. And then if you go further, you have the barstool part. You have two outside patios, but my favorite part is over here. This section, the style, the ambiance, the decor, all of it. It is my absolutely favorite part. So during happy hours, some cocktails are actually 50% off, including the Passion Maido, one of my favorite cocktails of all time. But Tracy, of course, picked one that is not 50% off. My side of the story is that I saw this drink and I really wanted to try it. It's French 75, and it has gin and sparkling wine and Sprite or 7-Up. And also, a big shout out to the bartender here. He's amazing. Did you see that? He was like juggling with bottles and stuff. Like, I can do that. So every time we go to a new place or a new restaurant, we always ask, what is your favorite thing on the menu? My favorite thing? I would go for the bun. That's funny because we said we wanted that one. If you're not asking a waiter in a new restaurant you have never been to, what is their favorite meal? You're doing it wrong. So the first plate came out, and we have honey glazed chicken wings, and they smell absolutely fantastic. That's a pretty good chicken wing. Tracy said, I want that glaze. That's what she just said. Up next, we have chicken croquettes. And burger sliders. So these even have chicken and sausage in the sauce. Very good. Tracy's right. That sauce, like a garlic sauce, is so good. For our little burger sliders, we have one beef, one lamb, and one chicken. They're really cute, and they are pretty good as well. I already had a bite of the chicken. The bite is so good. Got like brioche hamburger on it, on two beefs. For dessert, we are having little churros. We have some chocolate sauce and some vanilla ice cream, which is pretty good. So I would say, good food. Highlight was the chicken burger. I was just saying that. The wings were really good, like the sauce was, but not as much meat on the wing as what normally. But the chicken burgers, try the sliders. And otherwise, super nice ambiance, nice view. Really good drinks. Really good drinks. I really enjoyed mine that I had. Especially my mojito. Yeah, and whiskey sour was the classic. It was what you expected it to be. Overall, I found one of the best hotel bars in Nairobi, I would say. Well, for the rest of the night, we are going to watch a little movie. Always bring an HDMI cord when you go to a hotel, so you can plug into the TV from the computer, tonight we are watching The Little Mermaid because we haven't seen it and we love Disney. Yeah, popcorn too. Yeah, movie night, flicker at home, when so you just want to stay patient. Good morning. You know, we are simple people. For a good night of sleep, we need a very cold room and a comfy bed. And that is exactly what we got last night. Tracy, 10 out of 10? 10 out of 10. I love a good AC, probably because we're Canadian, we love the cold. How are you? Good, how are you? So for breakfast, everything you can expect from a buffet in a hotel. You got your egg station, potato, sausage, vegetable and a few other extra things like these eggs. They look really good. Like curry eggs or something. It's super good. I feel like that's my type of breakfast. And fried kebabs. But the real test will be how's the coffee. That's your task. It's a good one. So on the first floor, there's a restaurant called Olive. That's where you have your breakfast buffet. And that's also where you have your a la carte options for when you're on full board. Now if you come a little further, super cool design. They have a grab and go spot as well. I'm not sure they change the food at their grab and go as the day evolves. But right now it's mainly desserts, which Tracy's fine with. There's something wrong with that. So after breakfast, we kind of watch a little bit of YouTube on our big TV here for like what an hour and a half. And now I'm like, I need to do something. So I think we're going to go check out the gym, which we had a sneak peek yesterday. Like it's really nice for a hotel gym. Like I'm quite surprised. But first I'll need a little pick me up. I told Tracy to like take a sip and say sweet nectar of God. She's like, I don't say that. So yeah, that's what I think though. Sweet nectar of God. Welcome to their hotel gym. Normally I only work out from Monday to Friday, but when the gym is this nice, I have to like do a little workout here with Tracy for sure. Okay. The reason why it's so good. First of all, there's a stair master. I haven't seen a stair master in a hotel, I think ever, which is really nice. It's so much better if you want to burn actual calories. And then on top of all the essentials, they actually have a Smith machine, meaning that you can do some squat and a bench press, even like some deadlift. And they also have an actual barbell to do some free barbelling. Is that barbelling? It's probably not a word, but I just made it up. And they also have like a cable machine. And most hotels dumbbells, they go to like 10 pounds or something. Here it goes to like, I think 57 pounds, 25 kilo, whatever the conversion is. So we're going to have a great workout. And the AC is great. They have TVs, they have waters. It's going to be good. Workout done, let's go find some food. So for lunch, post-workout meal to build some muscle, we're going to order from the Olive restaurant downstairs, some room service. And there's like, this is a nine pages menu. You guys normally don't really like big menus because there's too many options. And now I want about 17 things on that menu. Lots of good options. What making it hard. We worked out so hard, we can't talk. No brain function. No. Is that like, they all sound good. It's not like some that you're like, that doesn't sound that great. They all sound good. And they have everything from like different salads to wrap steak, pizza, like everything. Risotto, the risotto sounds so good, but that's way too heavy for lunch. Hi, can I order a room service? I'll get one rapid and one clubhouse. So for lunch, I got a wrap, which is like a bunch of chicken and deliciousness into a chapati. And Tracy got the biggest glove sandwich of history. It's so, so good. It's like Cajun chicken on it with an egg. I don't know. The fries are really good. I got to try this out. I don't even know how help. That's a 10 out of 10 wrap. Now that we've worked a little bit, we have put our baby suit under this because the pool here is just so nice. So let's go check it out. So they have an indoor and heated pool and it is completely private just for us. It's because there's nobody else. It's not private. But don't let like the inside heat scare you. I say that, but there's a lot of Kenyans watching us. They're going to love the heated pool. It's still nice and refreshing. It's not too hot. It's a perfect temperature. In the room, out of the room, in the room, out of the room. This is what happens when you go to a hotel that has so many things to offer. Yeah. So for tonight for supper, we're going to go down the stairs to Olive. But first, we loved the bar upstairs so much. We're going to go back up for one more happy hour drink. For date night tonight, we are wearing sweatpants. They're not just any sweatpants. They're pretty cool sweatpants. We noticed a sign on our way there that said residence lounge. So we were able to get in. It's really nice in here. It's a perfectly work spot too. If you want a quiet place away from everything, get some work done. I like it. And you're literally just beside the bar. So, you know, once you're done working, just come for a drink. Literally started to rain like two, three drops and everyone else went inside. This patio was full. Now it's just Tracy and I. It's not even raining anymore. Just you're wondering. It's a cool bar. How are the bathrooms? Very nice. Now it is supper time. So we are going to the main restaurant on the first floor called Olive. This is also where we had breakfast this morning, but obviously there is a different menu at night. And I'm hungry. Me too. Check it out. Okay, change of plans. So downstairs is very nice. This is where we had breakfast this morning. Liked it. It's very like family friendly and stuff. There's a bunch of family there right now, which is great, but they just told us that we can order from that menu upstairs at the bar that we love. It's honestly, I think our favorite bar ambiance that we've been in here. Because they said that we're going, we're going back up in our sweat pants. As we were looking at the drink menu, the barman came and he was like, forget the menu. I'm going to make you something special. I like those type of people. Just pick your spirit. Tracy went for gin. I went for whiskey. He's going to make something special. The Manny special. Can I call it the Manny you think? Go for it. I'll ask. According to Boniface, that was a wow. I know. Ready? So you tell me if it's a wow. Okay. That is a wow. You have to try that. I would say exquisite. Do they have names? Perfect. So the Manny special. If you guys ever come to this bar, ask for the Manny special to Boniface and hopefully he's going to know what it is. Now I feel victory. About to live another fantasy. Clap with me. We about to make history. It is freezing in here. I kind of love it though. We might not have done much compared to a lot of our videos, but this was really neat this weekend. It actually allowed us to slow down and yeah, I just really enjoyed it. Catch up on some work, spend some time together, watch some movies. Like this was very nice and relaxing. I agree. So this hotel, I love it. The rooms, like the apartments, I think it's, they have a room for every need if that makes sense. A long-term stay, a short-term stay, whatever you need. And on top of that, having the gym. Really good gym. Really really good gym. Especially for the size of it. Super nice pool. Yeah. And the highlight is definitely the bar on the eighth floor. Just in case you didn't notice. So so nice. Like we tried to go downstairs for supper last night and then we're like, let's go back up. But also, yes the ambiance is great, but the staff. Yeah, super nice. The bartenders are just amazing. Boniface just made us really really good drinks and kept us hooked. Yeah. But yeah. Otherwise the food, the food as well was very good. The only thing is, is like some menu items are fairly expensive for what they are. Like the pizza I had yesterday, I wish I added like two toppings and the one meat was like 2,800 Canadian shillings, which is like really expensive for a pizza. Yeah, I agree. And then like if you put it in contrast, I had like the green Thai curry and I think that was like 1,700, not over 2,000 for sure. Yeah. And like that was more. So there was just like a couple things like that on the menu, but like overall, like there's all kinds of different prices. The food was really good. No complaints there. The cocktails were like 11 out of 10. And yeah, I think it was a very good experience. The apartment that we had is listed for $270 US per night. But like I said, this is like a full on apartment that you could like live in forever. Like there's everything. They even have monthly rates as well. So if you're coming here for a long term, that's something you can look to as well. If you come here for a weekend, like this is kind of a little bit too much, but like if you were here for like a few days, a few weeks, like this is perfect. So you don't have to like, you know, eat out every single day. Like there's a washing machine. Yeah. You don't even have to go anywhere for laundry. Yeah.
