The Baden-Württemberg cabinet, consisting of CDU and Grünen, voted for a specific decision
that should counteract the current shortage of skilled workers and give children's day care facilities the opportunity
to react more flexibly to individual circumstances.
What this decision contains and why it is another huge joke for the child care system,
we want to look at in this video.
Hi and welcome to a new video.
Today, for a change, not an empty video, but a video about current political decisions
that were decided in the area of early childhood education.
I would like to quote directly from an online article from the beginning,
which I also link in the video description.
The online article is about the aforementioned decision.
I think that this is being sold by the politicians as very promising,
at least as long as you don't look closer at the contents of this decision.
The goal of the new regulations is, according to the Ministry of Culture,
to create a legal framework for testing new ideas and concepts.
With this innovation, we make it possible for children's day care facilities
to react more flexibly to individual circumstances on site,
said Volker Schebesta, CDU, State Secretary at the Ministry of Culture on Tuesday in Stuttgart.
In addition to other ideas from the last few months in other federal states,
to employ pensioners, refugees or uneducated people in kindergartens
to counteract the shortage of skilled workers,
there is now this wonderful idea from the Baren-Württemberg cabinet.
Political decisions and new laws are really urgently necessary to avert the kindergarten collapse.
Experts, the science, associations, unions, foundations and co.
are absolutely in agreement and have been working on this for years.
Before we take a look at what exactly is planned there,
I would like to briefly mention a few numbers and facts
why something urgently needs to change.
The numbers and facts are provided with sources,
you can find them in the video description.
Up to 2025, according to conservative estimates, up to 179,000 educators will be missing.
In order to ensure more than just the retention of children,
the staff key, i.e. how many children a skilled worker takes care of,
should be at a maximum of 1 in 3 in the area of children under the age of 3.
In children over the age of 3, a maximum of 1 in 7.
According to the Federal Office for Statistics, the German federal average is 1 in 8.2.
The differences in the individual federal states are enormous.
Educators are on average 26.47 days of illness a year,
about 33% more often ill than the federal average with 19.77 days of illness a year.
The main reason is not infections.
The most common reason for the illness are psychological problems,
such as chronic overload, burnout, depression and co.
A clear sign that something is going terribly wrong.
The number of mentally ill children has increased from 20% to 30% in recent years.
And one last point.
For many social areas, there is a fixed amount of investment
to ensure a minimum level of quality.
There are also indications for the child care sector.
The investment deficit, i.e. the money that would have had to be invested
to ensure a minimum level of quality, but was not invested,
is at an incredible 10.5 billion euros.
The crazy thing is, the investments have been lowered even more in recent years.
So there is less and less investment despite the decline.
Enough numbers and facts to get a rough overview of the current situation.
Now we come to the specific decision for which the cabinet,
consisting of the CDU and the Greens, voted in Baden-Württemberg.
The idea of the cabinet to counter the shortage of experts
and, as they say, to create new ideas and concepts
so that children's hospitals can more flexibly respond to individual circumstances
is quite simple and straightforward.
Simply lower the staff key even further.
So even less staff should be employed than now.
Yes, that's right.
In the future, even fewer educators should be allowed to be employed per group.
What this has to do with new ideas and concepts
and a flexibility for individual circumstances
is not really clear to me.
With all the well-known effects, the overloaded and often sick professionals,
the mentally handicapped children and the associations that set alarms,
this can't be serious.
But it is.
That's exactly the plan.
The decision is made.
It is now going to the state parliament.
And such political decisions are not only the case in Baden-Württemberg.
Such or similar decisions are made all over Germany.
So it is definitely not a policy in the interests of children.
It is also not a policy in the interests of the experts.
The situation has also intensified here for years.
And it is also not a policy in the interests of parents.
At least not in terms of the fact that their children receive a good early education.
Now, of course, the question arises,
why are such political decisions made over and over again?
Of course, I don't know the answer myself either
and I feel completely fooled by all the political decisions.
But I have a guess as to why politics acts the way it does over and over again.
At this point, however, I must give a clear indication
that it is only my assessment and my opinion.
I can also be totally wrong.
Feel free to write a comment with your assessment of the situation.
There is a legal basis, a law.
Parents have the right to a place in the nursery for their child.
In an emergency, they can also sue this place.
Even if it is emphasized differently over and over again,
politicians in my eyes have no real interest in the interests of pedagogical experts
and not even in the interests of children.
Otherwise, such decisions would not exist.
The main interest in my eyes, according to politics,
is to create as many nursery places as possible,
no matter how much the quality suffers from it.
Quantity over quality.
So my thesis is that politics is about
fulfilling the legal requirement for a nursery.
You will find out at the end of this video how well this really works.
And of course, politicians want to win voter votes.
Let's compare the three groups, children, experts and parents.
Children at this age simply cannot stand up for themselves and their interests on a political level
and they cannot vote.
So there is no danger for the politicians.
The interests of the children are therefore relatively irrelevant for politics.
Experts can stand up for the children and do so.
I experience so many committed parents and educators
who, partly voluntarily, after their job,
get involved in their free time.
For example, in unions or associations.
So that finally something happens.
I receive a lot of messages from professionals
who are incredibly frustrated or think about turning their backs on the nursery sector.
And some have already done so for a long time.
The professionals with their multi-year, demanding training
and daily experience in practice know what they are talking about.
But also people from science,
such as professors, have been sounding the alarm for years
and pointing out abuses.
It is always pointed out to the catastrophic conditions.
But in addition to a few empty, nice jokes on the part of politics,
how important educators are for our country,
these are not really taken seriously
and political decisions are made that show exactly the opposite.
In my opinion, politics is about the situation of professionals and the quality of the nursery.
But it doesn't matter, because the rise
and the, in quotation marks, danger
is not strong enough for them.
According to the motto, some professionals complain,
but they do it.
It works.
And to name a number in terms of voter votes,
there are about 750,000 professionals working in nurseries.
Potential voter votes.
Let's get to the parents now.
Parents usually don't know,
at least as long as they don't work in the area themselves
or have someone in the environment who does,
how bad the early childhood education in Germany is.
That education is basically not possible due to the conditions.
And that it has been getting worse and worse for years
and the forecasts continue to strengthen this trend.
In politics, it is communicated to them that children are important for the country.
They are our future.
And politics, of course, does everything imaginable in this direction.
If we look at the numbers and facts just mentioned,
then we see what reality looks like.
In general, the main interest of many parents
is that they have a place of care for their child
so that they can go to work.
Just because they simply have to do it financially.
The 750,000 potential voter votes
according to the pedagogical professionals
are close to 14.8 million parents.
It makes sense in which direction the policy is laid out.
In my opinion, politics is not about the quality in kindergartens,
but much more about the quantity.
So that somehow as many kindergartens as possible are created
so that the policy is fair to the legal claim to a kindergarten.
At the expense of the professionals,
at the expense of the parents
and, worst of all, at the expense of the children.
Actually, it makes total sense
that the well-being of the children and their educational opportunities
should be at the center of political decisions.
But they don't do that.
Now you could assume
that the policy with its decisions
is at least fair to the legal claim to a kindergarten.
But no, that doesn't work either.
In the year 2023, 384,000 kindergartens are missing in Germany.
In order for something to really change,
the pressure on politics must be increased significantly.
This includes joining associations,
e.g. the specialist associations of the individual federal states,
going to demos,
shortening or even closing the kindergartens at high hospitalizations,
writing overload and hazard reports
and really using all these instruments.
And above all, don't give up.
No matter how many empty, great-sounding whispers still come,
only stop when something has really changed noticeably.
Now, of course, I would be totally interested in your opinion on the subject at this point.
Feel free to write a comment.
