The prolonged drought caused by the El Nino Phenomenon has hampered agricultural production, especially in Central Pangan and Hortikultura areas in East Kalimantan, such as in Babulu and Tenggarong, causing farmers to shift their crops, resulting in a number of agricultural and horticultural lands experiencing production delays. To anticipate the shortage of crops by the end of the year, local provincial governments have put heavy emphasis on agricultural water management, including preparing a long-term solution by increasing irrigation on lands that have begun to grow. As Governor of Kaltim, Akmal Malik said in Samarinda on the 28th of October, most of the agricultural land in Kaltim is rainproof, so it can be used as an alternative water source, such as the Mahakam River. That's why I asked the SPU to start looking for a solution so that the drought won't happen again. Because we have a large Mahakam River that has never dried up. We are looking for a solution so that our productive lands won't be affected by the El Nino Phenomenon. Despite the El Nino Phenomenon still ongoing, the provincial government of Kaltim has ensured that the availability of food communities can be met until the end of the year, including by sending government aid to the main resources from outside the region.
