If you follow my videos, you should already know Omega-3 and Omega-6.
Today, we are going to talk about fatty acids that are not very well known, but that are very important for health.
Omega-7s.
Omega-7s are part of the family of monounsaturated fatty acids.
The most well-known Omega-7 is palmitoleic acid, which is the most interesting and most often associated with Omega-7s.
So, what are the health benefits of Omega-7s?
Well, there are many.
A team of Japanese researchers made a discovery while studying obese and diabetic mice.
They notice that those who receive daily doses of Omega-7, so palmitoleic acid,
have a clear improvement in their diabetic status after 30 days.
More generally, we notice a reduction in weight gain, a decrease in glycemic index,
and a decrease in insulin resistance.
So yes, these results are on mice.
Are they transposable on humans?
Well, it seems so.
By studying the data of more than 3,700 people,
researchers have made the link between a high Omega-7 rate and a lower triglyceride rate,
a decrease in insulin resistance of almost 17%,
a reduction in type 2 diabetes risk of 20%,
and less fat in cellular tissues.
Another Brazilian study also shows that Omega-7s reduce liver inflammation.
Interestingly, Omega-7s would also lead to a decrease in inflammation of adipose tissues.
Again, you probably know that fat, especially visceral fat, is highly inflammatory.
It secretes inflammatory cytokines.
In fact, Omega-7s would tend to reduce the inflammatory effect of visceral fat.
In summary, the first benefit would be a decrease in insulin resistance
and a decrease in blood glucose level, so glycemic index.
Second benefit, a decrease in fat creation and accumulation.
Third benefit, a rather powerful decrease in inflammation.
And as a bonus, we can also mention that palmitoleic acid is one of the constitutive elements of sebum,
which is an important lipid barrier used to protect the epidermis.
Therefore, Omega-7s are indicated for people with dry skin
or dry mucous membranes, such as the eyes, for example.
Compared to the previous benefits, we can therefore indicate that Omega-7s can be a very good solution
to help fight the symptoms of metabolic syndrome,
i.e. a global deterioration of the body, especially from a hormonal point of view,
which I often mention in my videos too.
By the way, I show you here the comparative table made by Life Extension
in their article dealing with Omega-7s to fight metabolic syndrome.
They compare several pharmaceutical substances, including statins, to palmitoleic acid.
And we can see that, in theory, Omega-7s have very serious benefits compared to statins.
So how to explain the health benefits of Omega-7s?
It's a bit technical, I won't go into too much detail, but basically...
First, Omega-7s would tend to protect the beta cells of the pancreas,
i.e. the cells that create insulin.
And by protecting the beta cells of the pancreas,
we would have better insulin management in the body,
and therefore a decrease in insulin resistance,
and therefore a balance of glycemia.
Second, Omega-7s would act as a lipokine.
So what is a lipokine?
A lipokine is a hormone that will help better manage fat,
in fact, the fat stock compared to consumption.
On the one hand, we have the fat stock that has accumulated in the lipid reserves,
and on the other hand, the muscles, for example, that need energy quite regularly.
And a lipokine is used to say, roughly speaking,
for the muscles that need energy,
there is a stock of energy that is available in the lipid reserves,
and so it allows to communicate, to simplify,
the muscles and the fat reserves.
It optimizes the energy flow.
To simplify even more, Omega-7s would act as a signal
that indicates to the lipid reserves to release the lipids
so that the muscles can burn them.
So where do we find these famous Omega-7s?
Unlike Omega-3s and Omega-6s that cannot be produced by the body,
that's why we say they are essential,
we must have them by food,
the body can create Omega-7s via the liver.
However, this endogenous production does not necessarily meet all needs.
Hence the interest for some people to supplement themselves with Omega-7s.
When we look at studies, we notice that the administration of palmitoleic acid
works well from 200 mg per day
and on a minimum duration of one month.
However, the number of studies on Omega-7s is still very limited,
other studies will be necessary to define the exact pathology
that allows to have optimal results.
If you are interested, I put in the comments the Omega-7 supplement that I recommend.
Can we also find Omega-7s in food?
Well, it's very complicated.
Palmitoleic acid is rather very rare in daily food.
We can cite three most important sources to find palmitoleic acid.
First, the berries of the Argusiae.
The Argusiae is a bush that produces small orange berries.
Moreover, it is the food that contains the most vitamin C in the entire plant world.
There is nothing better in terms of vitamin C concentration.
It far exceeds oranges, peppers, etc.
In fact, there is 30 times more vitamin C in the berries of the Argusiae
than in an orange.
As vitamin C is an antioxidant,
the berries of the Argusiae are an excellent source of antioxidants.
It is also one of the very rare foods to contain Omega-7s.
The second food is the macadamia nut,
which is the nut that contains the most lipids.
One third of the lipids of macadamia nut is palmitoleic acid.
The third food we can find is in small quantities in anchovies.
Now you know the Omega-7s and all their health benefits.
If you are interested in essential fatty acids, like Omega-3s this time,
you have to be careful with the supplements you buy,
because some supplements are bad.
They can even cause problems instead of solving problems.
If you want to know more, I made a full video on the subject.
Do not hesitate to see it, it is right here.
It will teach you a lot about Omega-3s and how to choose them.
See you soon for new videos.
And of course, take care of yourself.
Ciao ciao!
