Here is the Pyramid of Ages, from the year 2000.
Hey Jamy, I think your pyramid doesn't really look like a pyramid, if you know what I mean.
That's true. Let's take a look at the one from 1800.
It is much more characteristic.
It represents the French population at a given time, in 1800 precisely.
The population by sex, here the girls, there the boys, and by age group.
At the bottom, the children aged from 0 to 4 in 1800.
And just above, those aged from 5 to 9 in 1800.
They are less numerous.
Normally, in 1800, infant mortality was very high.
A little higher, here, the adults aged from 30 to 34 in 1800.
Basically, the parents of the children we just talked about.
Parents, children, the line is much wider.
We can deduce that in 1800, families were very numerous.
You see, on an age pyramid, we can learn a lot of things.
And the more we climb, the less people there are.
Besides, in 1800, 65 years have passed, there are no more large numbers.
Now let's go back to the 2000 pyramid.
At the bottom, the children aged from 0 to 4 in 2000.
And just above, those aged from 5 to 9 in 2000.
As you can see, infant mortality has decreased.
Normally, hygiene and living conditions have considerably improved.
Jamy, what are these big ears?
The big ears?
No, not the ones that frame your brain.
There, on the model.
Ah! These big ears!
Well, these are the people who, in the year 2000, were between 30 and 55 years old.
In other words, the baby boomers.
A period during which births multiplied.
