right what's up welcome back to another
video skaters today we're going to be
looking at John Kelly an NLF NLF an NFL
running back for the LA Rams who
actually enjoys a little bit of the
wooden plank on his spare time so what
we're going to do is we're going to jump
straight into this video from the
barracks the NFL running back who
skateboards now this is pretty popular
video so we're going to full screen this
and we're going to review some
skateboarding so all that being
said ah yes my pre-cap board warm up I'm
a professional football player now you
know what I mean that can get stressful
imagine you see skaters doing warm-ups
like this like you're just at the skate
park and you got a bunch of cones you're
holding your skateboard in your hand
you're like duding around and ducking
and weaving hugging the skateboard like
it's your little baby like you're going
to score with it and when I'm able to
get on my board you know that's always a
great stress believer for me because
that's what I'm going to do until I
can't do anything else like I'm G play
football until I can do that or whatever
but skating is something I'm never going
to give up that see that's a great thing
to hear right there he just said
skateboard something he's never going to
leave football he'll do until he can't
do it anymore but skateboarding is
something that's always going to stick
with him and I think that's a common
sentiment shared by so many
skateboarders around the world like no
matter what else you do in your life if
you love skateboarding that's the one
thing that remains consistent and will
always be there for you regardless of
any love loss breakups whatever it may
be you'll always have that to bring you
back to
reality uh my name is John Kelly and I'm
going turn this one up a little
bit back for the Los Angeles Rams
okay now in England we don't know much
about these NFL Stars obviously I know
about the hyp behind them but not so
much what actually happens in these
games so forgive me if I get a few
things wrong here I'm just here to look
at the skateboard and so and it looks
like this guy's got some mad
stuff so you're skating regular I've
been skating probably 15 years I would
say I somewhere D skating for 15 years
man that's a long time I don't even know
how old this guy is he's probably what
like maybe 30 at the most in area but I
mean you got to think about it's been
like on and off cuz I mean I'm a
football player now you know what I mean
so I definitely been skating for as long
as I can remember I almost didn't play
football cuz I was going to skate yeah I
don't know I think there's definitely
more money in the football though like
to be honest if you could if you got the
choice between the two do the football
do the skateboard in your spare time and
then just get into skateboarding after
you've made your bag but to be honest
with you doing skateboard alongside
something like this that's probably
making him a lot a lot of money is quite
risky so that speaks volumes on how much
he must love it because think about it
right if he's skating then he breaks a
leg skateboard and he's then missed out
on a huge bag with the NFL so big
respect to John Kelly for that it was
like that I was born in jolia Illinois
and then moved to Detroit when I was
around 12 born in jol at Illinois and
then moved to Detroit when I was around
12 so I kind of like went through a lot
of my adolesence in Detroit when I first
started skating like so you grew up in
Detroit a pretty rough area forgive me
if I'm wrong by the way obviously
there's some nice part and bad parts of
everywhere but from what we hear over
here Detroit is one of the rougher ones
I was a loner growing up in the inner
city it wasn't too many people
skateboarding obviously I was always
like the outcast when I was doing so I
never got into it just like to do the
best tricks or do anything like that I
got into it more for like the creativity
aspect of it yeah man that's what I love
about skateboarding the creativity
outweighs everything else obviously the
fact that it's a physical activity and
you're getting yourself fitter and
healthier by doing it is a massive plus
to me the the two main things though are
the creativity and the mental health
benefits of skateboarding like the
amount of things you can learn just from
being able to pick yourself up off the
floor after failing a trick a thousand
times will teach you so much in your
real life about having to go through
failures to reach success that that and
the creativity side of being able to
just throw the board in any way you want
as long as you land back on it even
sometimes if you don't you still get a
great trick out of it so creativity and
that is the biggest things for me you
know I mean like I was also playing
football and everything too but skating
was like a piece of mind for me and it
taught me a lot of lessons like
experiencing things at a young age that
I probably wasn't gonna be exposed to
until I was older true and then me
getting older and playing football and
pretty much handling both of those it's
kind of taught me to like keep a peace
with myself you know because football
was like natural I think the biggest
thing skate woing teaches you is how to
progress through something that's
difficult cuz the reward is at the end
like if you find something that you like
and you find it really really easy the
SA faction is going to diminish fairly
quickly whereas with skateboarding
99.99% of people are going to find it
extremely difficult and having to battle
through that difficult part to reach the
green zone the grass on the other side
that is what makes skateboarding
literally the best sport in the world in
my opinion and John Kelly is doing a
great job of speaking on that yeah I
mean skating was more like it was
skilled I had to learn that it was a lot
of time and dedication that's what
people don't realize there would be a
lot of time on this board check this
[ __ ] out right so my first board was a
foundation board right right green
Foundation Bo with a little F I had no I
know Foundation boards were that old if
he's been skiting for 15 years that must
have been a while back I picked up my
first Foundation board literally I never
saw any in the UK till about 3 years ago
they spawned in for a bit bought a
couple tried them thought they were okay
they're kind of like heart Supply
quality like the mid tier brand quality
in my opinion at least the one that I
had was but yeah I didn't know they were
about that long no grip tick but I had
that skateboard with no grip tape for
like a year I'll like stair at the my
man just said he had skateboards with no
grip tape for a year sorry I keep
pausing it so much by the way crazy with
no grip tape I swear to God and people
used to always be like oh you're going
to be so good when you grow up cuz you
like practicing with no grip tape you
skate with no grip tape I'm like that's
funny that's a funny story to think
about like nobody I haven't talked about
that [ __ ] in so long that is hilarious
you know skate means a lot to me it's
it's taught me more see this kind of
stuff here just doing random stuff like
this if you ride up to the rail jump off
the board and start walking on the rail
with the board like he's doing now the
creativity side of that shows like most
people be like a that's weird that's
dumb that's circus tricks right they get
called a lot but if you're having fun if
you can jump onto the rail jump back
onto the board that's a trick in itself
you see Andy Anderson do stuff like this
all the time another one of the reasons
he's one of my favorite skateboarders if
not the favorite of this generation then
I can imagine one thing IID say
skateboarding definitely taught me to do
was to just like keep pushing and it's
funny cuz I just got that tattooed on my
arm you know what I mean so like yeah
and it's like a little skateboard or
whatever like I said the lessons that
it's been able to teach me I don't think
I would have been able to learn it any
other way like it was able to make me
very like diverse because when you skate
my man's mad athletic too look at these
gymnastics like you skate with people
from all over different backgrounds
different upcomings you know what I mean
it's a lot of different people that
skate that's why it's always label
Misfit so some yeah that is another
another great thing about it is like at
the skate park you could literally find
people from all walks of life it's one
of the only places you could find like
maybe a goth a librarian an ex-convict
and a group of young kids all skating
together in harmony my favorite skaters
would be like Stevie Williams Chris hlam
and Dewan song p and uh Chris Cole
probably I definitely give skateboarding
all the credit for my music of taste you
know what I mean like I've seen so many
different skate parks that had like cool
music in it the one that I just recently
seen that was like H that's kind of cool
is that uh Richie Rich Jackson Man
Richie Jackson We Love Richie Jackson
over here like this guy's skill level is
very similar to Andy Anderson but a bit
more on the Kookie side I'd say Andy's
like kind of a fusion between like a
ball a street freestyle skateboarder
whereas Richie Jackson's more of like an
outwardly spoken outgoing very
eccentrically
dressed skateboarder who Jo likes to use
a bunch of obstacles you would never
normally see like remote control Dolly
things he likes to use ballards traffic
cones all kinds of stuff that you could
slide on that you would never normally
think skateable is Richie Jackson's
whole bag so if you've not seen his part
I might do another review on that soon
that [ __ ] is kind of sweet right I was
SE that one that was pretty tight but um
yeah I definitely want to be able to
bring more resources to the city of
Detroit in regards to skating because
skating has been able to do so much for
me I think Detroit's going to be a hot
skate scene you're going to see a spike
in uh skaters coming out of Detroit
sooner than later it's going to be
tight to be honest that's what we need
man we need more people like this who
can actually do something well with
their life earn a bit of money and help
put skateboarding back up there because
there are so many great things that
teaches you like I said earlier in the
video that if you could just give that
to some kids everybody that skates that
gets these lessons like me like John
Kelly whoever it may be all they want to
do is spread that lesson to other people
because they know how valuable that it
is so seeing that he is doing that too
makes me very happy I'm probably like
the first football player that actually
can skate I get to skate pretty much
anytime I want usually the coaches you
know they crack jokes every now and then
like you know make sure you're not on
that board or you're not skating or
anything like that Coach B was actually
about it he you know he was pretty
confident in my abilities on my board he
don't know about the little scratches I
get every now and then when I try to do
something but yeah they don't really
trip about it too much yeah I can
imagine the coaches would be kind of
like right this guy's the player we need
him in ship shape but I mean if they're
cool it that's even better football or
skating skating a football player can't
get on a skateboard but I'm pretty sure
a skateboarder can go and run a route
skating is definitely harder yeah I've
been keeping up with the barracks for a
very long time it's tight that I'm
finally here though no
this hell yeah man we love to see it
this guy sounds like a pro a wholesome
dude and he's pretty good
too back Bo slide we got the Gap we seen
a he flip the front board as well F we
saw the 50/50 from one
earlier tail side
[Music]
too God
[Music]
damn what
damn right my friends well that was the
John Kelly skateboard review I think
he's done super well for himself if you
want to see any more videos like this
let me know and I'll see you in the next
one
