24 Hours Eating at Japanese DEPARTMENT STORE Muji in Tokyo Japan

hey guys this is Mike Chen here in Tokyo in for brunch today I'm going to a really interesting place we all know Muji as a giant Japanese retailer focused on lowcost quality everyday Goods I mean I've bought clothes Mogi I've gotten kitchen utensils but never food until today this whole wall is curry I am here at the Muji flagship store in the heart of Tokyo to Yeet at Muji Diner this is really interesting it's a beautiful setup down here looks like a bright modern very well-designed Italian restaurant there's pastas and spices along the walls this place is huge there's booths and tables and wine and is located at the bottom of this flagship store I never seen this before in this smoi store in the US but here in Japan you can walk around fi sells vegetables fruits pastas Curry dumplings pretty much everything you need for your home and stomach the Muji Diner usually there's a weight luckily some reason there's not today there's a menu and you order everything online via QR code so scan this and this is the lunch menu a lot of different pastas oil sardines and tomato or Pomodoro spaghetti Genevie spaghetti there's ratoni oh there's pizza too okay and there's drinking dessert sets wow it's not a ton of food but looks really really good all right I'm going to go ahead and get bolog ratoni course one is a fresh mushroom salad this does look very scrumptious looks like mushroom kale some thinly sliced peppers and a little Minon soup the salad tastes like mui very minimal nothing fancy about it at the same time extremely satisfying and the meal is about $20 and you get appetizer a soup a pasta dish and a main course not bad going a stron soup is probably my least favorite of all the Italian soups and I don't really e it often so I don't know for I'm Min stron soup if this is good or not tastes okay pasta and pizza has arrived so this is a little tiny Margarita Pizza I mean it seems to be pretty well made crust is nice and thin and Airy got some beautiful charm marking on the bag smells good that's a pretty good little Margarita piece Neapolitan style super thin crusted wow really AR and nice with a slight hints of bitterness from the Char of the crust Taste of Basil the sauce is not bad the cheese is nice and melty this is a pretty good little mini margarita pizza that's pretty delicious also upstairs I got this tea this is caffeine free Muscat grap ryas tea this thing pretty much tastes like a hint tea no sugar at all definitely tastes a nice floral fragrance of the mascot graay which they sell upstairs this is the second pasta dish I got this is ratoni with h Bones the sauce doesn't look as meaty I think what they're doing down here is they're cooking and serving all the food items that they have upstairs cuz I'm pretty sure this is their posa that they sell and I know they sell this Bolan sauce as well it's definitely not the best bolog sauce had but it's not bad it's less meaty than I would like but I do like how mild it is it's also very cheesy I think the star here this pasta it's phenomenal perfectly Al Dente delightfully chewy with a slightly sweet aftertaste I like the bolog sauce love the pasta the main course has a rice so it's seared fish on top of vegetables and sapron sauce a little bit of greens as well M the sapron sauce SAU wonderfully fragrant the vegetables it's crunchy it's Snappy and fresh got some onions some zucchini some Tomatoes goes perfect with the saffron sauce the fish is tender as flaky that's a pretty good piece of fish especially for a department store dessert is uh three little cakes I think one is a mhm it's a Hokkaido milk pudding cake of sorts yeah there's no way that can be not good this thing is just Next Level milky yeah that's definitely H milk that's richer in milk here than the whipped cream right beside it that's heru that's pretty darn perfect as well sweet nice bitterness from the espresso that actually works very well right after taking a bite of the pado milk pudding and then a brownie that's my least favorite of the three it's chocolatey very rich and dense so this place pretty much like a sort of like an Ikea they're serving the foods that they sell I think even the saffron fish you can buy upstairs then what I'm going to do finish lunch then buy a bunch of random stuff and just eat Muji for the next day or so cuz most stuff I had today pretty Dar good so there is so much cool stuff here this is all the pasta sauces here this is what I just had it's just okay spicy beef Curry this with your Curry I a couple days this whole wall is curry this is ridiculous red curry green curry oh my gosh butter chicken curry oh so much there's so much oh here's a chart of all their Curry all sorts of gima oh my gosh l mop let hopeful Rox tail soup with green lemon guess I'm done all right Muji dinner time tonight it's going to be spicy beef Curry this is four out of five spicy three bean curry with wild boore meat some microwavable muchi rice and then we'll try this mango and yogurt flavor layered jelly and these are really easy to cook so drop these in a pot of boiling water for about 6 minutes this goes in the microwave I think about 2 minutes all right this thing took about 6 minutes to cook this rice smells really good looks like a very beautiful jasmine rice so I'm going to pour a little of the wild bore meat curry and the spicy beef Curry on this so I can just get a taste of both this is the three bean pork so I see the big beans in here and it's minced bore meat that's good this is a very meaty Curry there a ton of pork there's some looks like kidney beans some chickpeas in peas and again tons of meat in this Curry also this rice is fantastic I think Muji has the best microwave Rice the spices AR point it's extremely delicious Rich very thicky there's nothing watery at all it's chunky it's thick it's Rich it's got tons of flavor the beans are delicious the meat's delicious Bor no gaminess whatsoever M little bit of heat this thing honestly I don't even think you need rice it tastes like really really good chili wow I mean you definitely taste a lot of spices in here that typically would not be in chili but I can eat this on his own also this rice from Muji it's venal just the rice itself incredibly fragrant it goes so well with the curry all right now let's try this spicy beef oh my go so good wow I'm trying to calculate in my head how much spay I'm have in my luggage cuz I think I need to fill it with a lot of Curry this is just incredible it's a tomato based Curry it tastes like a freaking restaurant in the bag the four out of five spicy I think it's spot on the spice level for me there's a lot of heat without going too much overboard it doesn't cover up with the flavors the heat goes really well with his Curry it's Rich it's zesty it's beefy and also the beef so tender this is absolutely ridiculous wow this is good if I lived in Japan I would keep so many of these because I could eat this every single day they last for these will sit around for like a year W I will definitely keep this around just keep restocking it and they'll last you a long long time so whenever you got the emergency Munchies Muji will be there for you everything about this the curry the rice Spectacular Now I want to try mango and yogurt flavored jelly the top is mango the bottom is yogurt W it tastes like mango puree jelly yogurt's delicious mango tastes awesome the jelly is very very soft it just dissipates immediately when you put it in your mouth I feel like what I've gotten now and I know what I had today at lunch was also Muji products but the curries are on a whole different level than what I was eating at lunch incredible all right this is going to be my dinner tonight and then the rest will you tomorrow see you then okay today is Muji lunch day and I actually went back to Muji this morning I got a few things from their Cafe that I didn't get before I got a curry bread a cubed bread with Yuzu on top and cream in the middle and then I asked what their best seller was they told me it was a simple little salt breast so I got that as well and a couple more curries the curries are so good I got some more rice too I love the rice I actually didn't know they had different types of rice so I got two different types of white rice cuz that's my favorite let's try the bakery items first all these were freshly baked today I start with the curry bread wow this thing pulls apart very nicely you can tell this is going to have a nice chew away I love love curry bread in this country first Curry bread I ever had was from a vending machine and that was ridiculously amazing and this thing from mui spectacular the curry is deliciously creamy and Rich and Meaty the bread is Toasty on the outside fantastic pillowy chew it's so Airy and delightful it goes so well with that rich meaty feeling and this thing the meat is tender the curry is all sorts of spiced up and vibrant oh so I think whenever I see Curry bread just get it more likely than that it's probably going to be good next one is one of my all-time favorite breads I had this in Japan and South Korea it's a salt bread obviously it'd be a lot better fresh from the oven but even when it's cold the bread texture is amazing it's chewy it's got a phenomenal chew this thing is very buttery with just a little sprinkle of salt on top it's such a simple delicious bread I remember when I was in South Korea a couple years ago it was a Bak cream right across the street from my herbn be that's so de I like 10 of day they taste like the most pillowy bread in a soft prz had a baby and chease it with some of this stuff this is a cat drink with coconut jelly and lii it's not very liquidy there's a lot of jelly in here I wouldn't say this is a very refreshing drink this more like a dessert in a bottle this is bread with custard inside the bread is Toasty on the outside super soft in the inside custard it's thick it's creamy it's sweet I think on HP there's a little bit of frosting there's a tried Yuzu slice which I don't really think is for eating yeah this is good I think my favorite Curry bread salt Bread's good Muji bakery's got some really good stuff all right rice time these are the two different types of white rice I got one is just says white rice and the other one says Jasmine rice so I think the jasmine rice is going to be better for the curry even though I think this regular white rice is some of the best I've ever had and we'll start with this I've been wanting to try this ever since I first laid D on it mapa tofu 4 out of five spicy same as yesterday boiled this whole package in water for about 7 Minutes how it takes so I cooked up a mapu in a lural fun and this is not a very traditional looking lural fun usually lur fun is just pork belly and spices and sauce this one there's some woode there's some mushrooms smells good though definitely a lot of chewes in these packets it's really Dr there's a lot of pork in here then the juice from the back has tons of fat that that goes perfect with the rice that is a very Porky very fatty bite this pack just a little bit will easily soak through one whole container of rice this is a really Porky Porky dish there's some preserved vegetables in here as well I think not traditional but very very good and this is the mot tofu so of course mofu a very popular dish here in Japan see the tofu little bits of minced meat wow the map tofu good first thing I hit you right away is the peppercorn it is extremely numbing wow I mean that first bite I feel it all the way to my throat extremely nummy there's actually a lot of minced meat in here the tofu is wonderfully tender it's spicy peppercorny it tastes like a very traditional dish of maofu this actually tastes very very authentic you could sell this stuff I got a restaurant one say mofu one side real fun that's not a bad combo both of these dishes I say solid 99 and a half out of 10 m next up cumin and red chili pepper chicken bone soup curry and creamy prawn bisque Curry also I got a n to go with it so this one is packaged really nicely and inside is the container bag this is a very Hefty portion of Curry 250 g the curry I've been eating so far usually around 160 G see this up the cumin red chili pepper chicken bone soup curry it has a lot lot of stuff inside so giant chunks of pork and chicken there's carrots there's a whole half a potato Lotus roots of course and also this new jasmine rice I'm putting it on top of smells so much better than the regular white rice this is made for cry this jasmine rice absolutely made for curry it just makes everything so much more fragrant by the way the Lotus root it's stewed wonderfully tender there is definitely a lot of spice in this Curry the pork though is a little tough there's definitely a lot of cumin in this dish this is definitely the most fragrant of all the curries I've had so far but I think that meat is just way too tough in that one this other one is the creamy prawn biscuit Curry so whole prawn in here oh this is awesome this Curry is buttery it's creamy it tastes like a really thick Rich Seafood bis you definitely get a ton of flavor from the that's in here wow this one's so good and there's actually a whole giant prawns inside that one's incredible and again if you're going to get the curry from Muji definitely pair it up with the jasmine rice oh this is so good it's so creamy and flavorful also got some of this Muji non dunk that in the curry the thing is really soft and pillowy it gets nice and toasty in the toaster oven and has a beautiful fragrant flavor to it as well the cumin and red chili pepper chicken bone soup curry to me just okay the prom bis Curry incredible last two Curry to try one is beef simmered in red wine sauce and the other is beef bellly Curry the beef belly Curry the beef looks very fatty and nice great oh that's good that is some melt in your mouth fatty pieces of beef I mean this thing is just so Chuck full of flavor incredibly beefy rich and spicy I think it's perfect spice level there are so many spices in that Curry for the beef Curry that I've had at Muji every single one of them tastes like something you get at a restaurant oh oh that's so fatty and nice the darker one is the beef red wine sauce wow wow wow that might be one of the best ones first of all these are giant chunks of beef and they are extremely extremely tender the red wine sauce is so deep and Flav ful that is some tender tender pieces of beef the sauce is incredible it's rich and savory with a combination of very earthy notes from the beef and a slightly Tangy fruity flavor from the wine sauce with just such a perfect balance with the natural wami of the beef I mean this whole thing the texture is good the flavor is good the meat is ridiculously tender yeah another whole run Curry from Muji so supposedly Muji has over 50 different tyes some Curry I of course only just tried a few of them but the ones I've tried absolutely phenomenal also the MAA tofu is good the luro fun is good the rice is mindblowing this is the best microwave Rice I've ever had I wish they SE this in the US because this is so much better than a lot of frozen foods you can just keep it in the cabinet they last about a year and whenever you're hungry pop one in the microwave 6 minutes later fantastic meal that tastes like it came from a restaurant I did not know that Muji had all those amazing Yeats man what a spe spacular meal also I got a package of white peach jelly this is good and there's so much more I didn't try there's so many Frozen Foods there's some foods that you need an oven for there's some foods you need a rice cooker for and I wish I could just pack a suitcase for curry and rice and take it back to the us or if Muji and the US start selling this stuff that probably be better but wow if you're stand at Airbnb some place with a microwave you don't want to eat it all the time this is a phenomenal alternative and that is definitely going to be my food for today and as always thank you all so much for watching
