Hi everyone, it's Jennifer from FiberFlux.
In this video, I will show you how to work the back post double crochet stitch.
This can be seen abbreviated in patterns as a BPDC, and it adds a lot of texture.
I've started a little swatch here, and I just made a row of regular double crochet, and
then I started working a row of back post double crochet to show you.
As you can see, it creates this neat little ridge along here.
There's also a front post double crochet stitch, and if you'd like to learn this also, I've
done a video for that.
It's episode 41, how to work the front post double crochet stitch.
You can work these together and create ribs in your crochet pieces.
Let's begin.
Let me show you how to do this.
It's very easy.
It's worked very similarly to a regular double crochet stitch, but where you place your hook
in the beginning is what makes the difference.
What you're going to do is you're going to wrap your yarn around the hook, then you're
going to take your hook and come in behind, go behind the piece, so we're going to be
working it around this post.
This double crochet that we made, this is the post.
We wrapped yarn around hook, we're going to come in from behind and come up in between
the posts like that, and then we're going to go over top of it and back down in there
just like that.
If we pull it apart, you can see how that looks.
Then we're going to wrap yarn around hook, and then we're going to take that yarn and
we're going to pull it through the post that we went around, just like that.
Then we're going to wrap yarn around hook and work the stitch as we normally would.
Wrap yarn around hook, bring it through the first two loops on your hook, wrap yarn around
hook, bring it through the last two loops on your hook.
As you can see, we made that post stitch.
Let's do that one more time.
Yarn around hook, bring your hook to the back, come up, go over top of the post and back
down in.
Wrap yarn around hook and pull it through that post, just like that.
Wrap yarn around hook, bring it through the first two loops, wrap yarn around hook, bring
it through the last two loops, just like that.
Let's do a couple more and finish off this row.
Yarn around hook, come in from the back, come up, over top of the post and back down in.
Wrap yarn around hook, pull it through that post, wrap yarn around hook, bring it through
the first two loops, wrap yarn around hook, bring it through the last two loops, just
like that.
Let's do it one more time.
Bring it through the post, yarn around hook, and that's it.
You just work it like a regular double crochet, except when you begin, you're going around
the post instead of just into the stitch.
That is how you work the back post double crochet stitch.
