psychetruth hey guys welcome today I'm
going to be doing a massage for my
handsome hubby and his name is Lee um
we're going to be doing a glute and low
back massage and I'm going to go ahead
and start with um the glute and kind of
work my way up into the ql muscle it's
going to be my main focus so I'm go
ahead and get started
um just some simple things before you
get started I like to make sure that I
have plenty of space so I might move the
arms around a little
bit
and I'm actually going to start with
um just some gentle compressions in the
IT
band and kind of work my way up the hip
and into the glute eventually
[Music]
and I'm not trying to be like super
specific or perfect here I'm just trying
to warm up
everything and I usually do this with a
little bit
of gentle rocking
[Music]
go ahead
and one more
[Music]
time this is really soothing for the hip
joints and is a great way
to kind of work your way into more glute
work
can also
um just this gentle movement is a really
nice distraction technique and you can
certainly continue that as you work your
way into the muscle it's different
[Music]
muscles sometimes this is more effective
than just a static
[Music]
hold I'm going to be focusing a lot
on um the parap foris today but I'm
going to work my way into
it so before
I even attempt deep tissue in the paraph
forus I like to work on this
medius um it's kind of
easier to work on the parap foris if the
muscles around it
are have been worked
[Music]
on and you certainly don't have to hold
your wrist like I am I just makes me
feel more
stable and especially if I'm using
this um
just distraction technique it's a little
easier for
[Music]
[Music]
me and
[Music]
um starting to get a better
idea the tightness in
here tightness level
and I'm going to
start going in with some more static
[Music]
holds and I'm not going to hold for a
long
time but just starting
to move into a little bit of deep tissue
and it's going to be a lot easier to do
deep tissue if you're working in towards
the
body and as I get into this medius
muscle I might corporate a little bit of
gentle shaking
and making sure that my stance is nice
and wide when I'm bent over like
[Music]
this really taking my time with these
glutes
[Music]
making sure that I feel really stable
before I try to do any distraction
technique like
[Music]
this and I'm going to go ahead and do a
little bit of Active Release just
bringing that leg up
and doing deeper work in this glute
Max um this is a really great way to
make it a lot easier on
yourself and it's a great leadup to the
deeper paraph foris work that I'm going
to do for
[Music]
Le you can find your own pace with this
kind of thing you can use you know
[Music]
whatever Pace feels right for you or
your client at that
moment sometimes I'll go really
[Music]
slow if the muscle fiber underneath your
hand is kind of
like super ropey I would suggest working
a little
slower you need to be a little bit
patient and I'm going to start um in
with some parap foris
work go ahead and go in with my elbow
make it easier on
myself and I'm going to do that
[Music]
same Active Release Technique
[Music]
and really just gauge how your clients
um responding you might need to
adjust the amount of pressure that
you're
[Music]
using and it's also a good
idea when you're doing this kind of work
to take little mini
breaks um can be kind of intense
[Music]
the parap foris is such a deep glute
muscle
that trying to get in there with the
thumbs um is a lot harder than kind of
work with the
elbow and taking a little bit more time
here and again if
the muscle is kind of trying to fight
its
way
um then you might need to adjust your
pressure a
[Music]
little just a little bit more in here
[Music]
and I might just do something kind
of help encourage everything to just
soften let go a little bit after all
that
and this is a good time to go in
with just a few real basic compressions
in the low
back
before doing that same routine on the
left go ahead and work my way
over and doing that same routine
I really like to include a little bit of
it pan work when I'm working on the
glutes just helps the hips to
soften makes glute work a little bit
easier
and not only does it feel better if I'm
putting both my hands on Lee but I'm
also a lot more stable when I'm
[Music]
working
and always reminding myself to work with
a neutral
spine especially when
I'm um doing elbow work and kind of
forced to bend over a little
[Music]
more and just working my
way right
into different glute
muscles making sure that my wrist is
nice and supported
[Music]
and just really um making friends with
these muscles before I try to go any
deeper you can do the same thing just
you know putting static pressure but
it's just a little more interesting to
your client sometimes if
you shake a little bit too
and when you start to do deep tissue
your client's going to be thinking more
about the movement than the possible
discomfort Le that's the
[Music]
goal and
really um focusing on this
medius before
um moving into the parap
foris big muscle around
[Music]
it sometimes when I go in with my elbow
I will start to do a few static
holds just kind of depends
on the client I'm working on and how
things
[Music]
feel doing deep tissue like this because
you're working in towards the body it's
a lot more e it's a lot less effort on
your
part so it feels like a lot of pressure
to
Le it's actually like fairly easy for me
if I'm doing it right
[Music]
and especially as I get closer to the
low
back I do a little more distraction
technique I really like using my elbow
on the medius and the parap foris but
not so much the glute Max just a little
really like the
active Active Release Technique more
than
anything so all of this work that I'm
doing is going to be super healthy and
healing for the low
back
sometimes the pain that we feel in our
low back is just referral pain because
the glutes or the hips are really tight
and like I said on the opposite side
sometimes I'll
do you know really slow
movements sometimes I'll do a little bit
quicker just depending on my
client and how they're
[Music]
responding and I am going to start to
work my way into this parap foris a
little bit bit
more and when I first go in I'm just
careful not to you know put all of my
weight can be a little bit um
shocking you finally access that deep
glute
muscle but
gradually cuz I feel like the muscles
responding well I'll kind of
sink my elbow in a little bit
more this is
like probably the best thing you could
do for someone with sciatic pain if they
can tolerate
it going to help them out a lot if you
do this
technique parap
[Music]
forist and really taking my time here I
might give just a little
[Music]
break and do just a little bit more in
here it's really important to be present
and not tune out when you're doing this
kind of
work you want to do it
effectively just a little bit
more and I might just hold for a
minute or release
and instead of just kind of ending
things there I'm going to do
something a little bit more
soothing before I work my way into the
low
[Music]
back and really just encouraging these
hips to be as soft as
possible before I attempt any work in
the ql
[Music]
yeah I'm have to pull these shorts down
a
[Music]
little just going to grab a drink of
water
[Music]
and I'm finally going to go in with my
oil and I'm going to
start working my way towards the ql so
I'm just warming up the low back a
little bit
[Music]
more the ql is also a very deep musle
that can be a little harder to access so
just kind of working my way towards
it and to start um this kind of work
this kind of ql work I like to work away
from the spine and around the
hip so
you do need to be a little
careful if you're working on someone
that's a little bit
bony just kind of use your
discretion just using these double
fists
and working our away from the
spine it's an excellent way
to warm up everything before going in
with the deep tissue work
can always use one hand as well if that
feels more
natural and um actually going to go in
with my forearm a little
bit kind of working from different
angles
[Music]
and really tying the medius into all
this a little
[Music]
bit so I'm definitely
um you know working my way towards the
ql but I'm not really working on it just
yet in a way that's going to be that
helpful um if somebody has chronic
issues with that
muscle but I'll get
there
[Music]
so just uh doing a little bit more work
in that medius muscle
and tying that into my little routine
here all right
so I'm going to start
um this area is nice and warmed up and I
am going to start in with some deep
tissue now really accessing that ql
muscle a little
more so like I said when I was working
on the glutes when you work in towards
the body
um that's your best you know way to do
deep tissue so I'm going to start going
in with my
elbow and working my way around the
iliac
[Music]
crest and in towards the
[Music]
spine I find this kind of works to
be definitely on the more challenging
side ql is a tricky muscle to work on I
think and just making sure that I'm nice
and stable as I
work and really taking my time but not
lingering too long as I do this kind of
[Music]
work because you are working towards the
spine um feeling really staes really
important
[Music]
[Music]
and like to do a little bit of
lengthening all
that and I'm going to go ahead and move
to the opposite side
and doing that same
[Music]
routine and it's pretty standard for Wes
side to feel you know more tight than
the
other it's good to communicate that to
your client when you're
[Music]
working and just being careful
um this area around the IC Crest can be
a little bit bony so just being a little
bit careful as I
[Music]
work and when you are working on the low
back working from different angles is
really effective can
be and really tying this medius into
this
[Music]
routine so just working extra
slow on this muscle
[Music]
and finally I'm going to go in some deep
tissue and working my way around the
iliac
crest
and working my way
in that Q
well making sure that
feel nice and
[Music]
stable you can also explore working with
the
other forearm if that feels more
[Music]
natural or if you get tired can use
[Music]
and just a little bit more in
here before I start to wrap things
[Music]
up working um laterally is really
important when
you're working with someone that has you
know a history of low back stiffness or
[Music]
pain and I do like to include um a
little bit of SI joint work when
I towards the end of my low back
[Music]
routine and it's
really good to do SI joint work after
you do that work in the glutes just kind
of get more bang for your
[Music]
buck just making sure that I have a
really good idea
of how things are feeling from right to
left before I work one side at a
time and I am stacking my thumbs here
just to make it a a little easier on
myself I don't like to overwork the
aside joints but I really like to
include include this kind of work if
somebody has low back
pain if there are no contraindications
to doing that of
course just have
to communicate with your client
[Music]
and totally normal for one side to feel
different than the other one
[Music]
like to work my way around this iliac
crest after I do that kind of work feels
really
nice this wouldn't be a bad way
to work on the soaz muscle if you wanted
to do that you could wrap your hands all
the way around to the front side of the
body it's a really interesting way to do
that kind of work we're not going to do
that today
and I am going to do a little bit of
work in the sacral area just there's a
lot of nerve
endings after this routine that we've
done it's going to feel really
nice to just stimulate this area a
little
bit and I do like to
work my way all the way down towards the
[Music]
end the
coxic this can be a huge relief for
someone
that's feeling discomfort in their low
back
and I like to end how I started do
something nice and
simple and that is it for today
guys thank you for joining us today guys
I hope that you enjoyed today's video
and we look forward to seeing you next
time
