things just went nuclear guys the judge presiding over fton County district attorney Fanny Willis's sweeping R case against alleged young slim life or YSL gang members was hit with a nuclear motion to recuse himself in this high-profile trial guys attorney Brian steel who's representing Grammy winning rapper songwriter musician Young Thug in this case he filed a 27-page motion that accused judge Ural as some people say urinal Glenville of favoring the prosecutors from Fanny Willis's office and attempting to sabotage the defense Georgia based criminal defense lawyer Andrew fman he essentially described this move as near nuclear coming from Brian steel if you have been following from the start you would know that YSL Young Thug trial under Fanny Willis's Fulton County district has truly gone off the rails guys in fact the whole thing has been essentially plagued with arrests charges and various disruptions right now they're even considering whether judge uran or urinol uh Glenville could stand as a witness in the trial that he himself is presiding over I mean yeah things over there are getting quite crazy in Fon County and of course judge Glenville denied the motion and he even went as far as to say that the claims from Young Thugs lawyer Brian steel and the Motions were insufficient but are they legal commentator Pam Keith argued on X that Glenville was obviously Furious that he got caught doing something they had no business doing but trying the strong armed Council to reveal their sources was really not the answer then you have attorney Ashley Merchant Who Rose to National prominence by going head-to-head with Folton County DA Fanny Willis and ultimately leading the efforts to ultimately disqualify Willis from the Donald Trump election interference case is now representing Brian seal in this contempt matter in against judge urano glaven Ashley Merchant has called on Glenville to recuse himself for just that very reason saying that Brian steel is entitled to all the same due process rights that Mr Williams and pretty much every other defendant in this courtroom is entitled to he's entitled to those now one of those is to have a fair and neutral judge decid in his case the question is can Fulton County Judge Glenville stand to see himself as a fair and neutral judge amidst all of this well that's what we're here to find out guys but basically what we've got is a fon County Judge holding an alleged secret a secret meeting with prosecutors from Fanny Willis's office and a key witness in the Young Thug YSL case and the defense just finding out after the fact not being formally notified or provided a transcript or anything like that and still judge Glenville refuses to recuse himself much like how Fanny Willis refuses to recuse herself from the Georgia trial the Trump Georgia trial as well but here's uh judge Glenville denying the latest motion to recuse himself check this out I'm going to denying the motion of this point in time Chief fton County Superior Court Judge eural Glenville remained defiant in his courtroom Tuesday tosing two motions to get him recused the defense argues a meeting in the judge's Chambers with prosecutors and witness Kenneth Copeland makes an impartial trial impossible those kinds of meetings are highly disfavored in fact they really should never happen but for the most um you know kind of emergent circumstances GSU law professor Anthony Michael CH says the contempt charge the judge SLA Thug's lawyer Brian steal with is also highly unusual steel accused the judge and da of essentially coercing Copeland into testifying by threatening with jail time so I've added this court to the witness list I plan on calling the court as a witness in the trial CHR says that just adds so many layers to an already complex case you can't have a judge sitting as an adjudicator or as an impartial decision maker at a criminal trial who's also witness judge Glenville had ordered Steele to spend the next 10 weekends in jail for bringing up that meeting with the witness in a testy exchange a testy exchange huh that's definitely one way to put it huh the way other people describe it is that you know this Fon County Judge is certainly a disgrace to America that deserves both disbarment and jail time me personally I just want Justice to be served but what about you guys should Justice be served do you major high-profile RICO case against members of the supposed YSL gang facing a strong call to step aside now Brian steel who represents Grammy winning musician Young Thug filed the very heavy very serious 27 page motion claiming judge urel Glenville has been favoring The Fanny Willis prosecutors and attempting to sabotage the defense Young Thug and five others are being tried on gang related charges and this motion is it's really pushing for judge Glanville to just kind of bow out completely suggesting that another judge should step in to handle this Rec recusal request now according to the filing from attorney Brian steel judge Glenville must seize any further contact with the case and another judge shall be assigned to hear this motion to disqualify SL recuse judge Glenville and judge Glennville cannot in any way oppose this motion now members of the Georgia legal Community they were definitely shaken up by this motion I mean Georgia based criminal defense lawyer Andrew fman he went on X to comment just how this would be an angry filing from anyone from steel it's nuclear law professor Anthony Michael cre from Georgia State University said this is a motion you file from which there is no return it's that intense it's blistering legal analyst Tracy Pearson described it as not just loud but like a Bullhorn in your face kind of allowed and if you guys have been following the trial like we have it has definitely been messy to say the least some even describe it as a full-blown chaos over the last couple of weeks before the motion to recusal Brian steel filed a motion for mistrial based on an exart meeting that Glenville held with prosecutors State witness uh Kenneth copelan and Copeland's Council now the judge became pissed off angered that Brian steel had any knowledge of what was said in his Chambers and when steel would not reveal his Source judge Glenville helped him in criminal contempt and sentenced him to 20 days behind bars now the Georgia Supreme Court had to intervene with a ruling that stayed the jail sentence as steel said in his sworn affidavit the court has falsely and wrongly accused Brian steel of being uh unprofessional and unprepared in front of the jury neither claim was close to the truth or even accurate now the prosecutor also sat silent as steel was wrongly and falsely accused of improper conduct bottom line this court has violated every neutrality and partiality that it was sworn to undertake now steel is arguing that the judge has completely abandoned his commitment to remain neutral and impartial in fact they claim during the meeting Glenville and the District Attorney's office they tried to harass and even intimidate their witness into testifying Brian steel said in his affidavit that judge Glenville was a participant and present during these admonitions threats to the state witness Mr Copeland this is witness in imination and the court has become a member of the prosecution team in assisting the prosecution to induce a material witness to testify and yet judge Glenville still chose to deny the motion to recuse himself more on that in just a second but needless to say the tension in the courtroom is palpable and the struggle is definitely casting a long shadow of the trial now with him and judge cop McAfee's questionable ruling on the fanny Willis disqualification people are others in 2022 on Gang Related crimes prosecutors have claimed that Williams is one of the founders of the young slim life and alleged violent street gang in Atlanta Williams attorneys argue that YSL stands for his record label Young Stoner life but quickly stealing the spotlight from this high-profile case is Judge Ural Glenville as he quickly denied the motion to remove himself from the case saying that he claims the Motions are insufficient I mean like if you're the one that's deciding whether you should be removed from the case that you're presiding over there's already a problem there if you ask me why should he even have the power to decide whether he stays on the case or not that's like you deciding if you are guilty or not obviously you'll always be innocent you know what I mean it's unbelievable and this is not the first call for for Glenville to do so another defense attorney Doug Weinstein he also attempted to get the judge recused before this but Glenville quickly shot that down too surprise surprise Weinstein said in his motion that defendants were not provided notice of the hearing either before during or after and regardless defendants should have been afforded an opportunity to attend any hearing where a sworn witness in a critical stage of the trial is being coerced to testify so the only logical conclusion to be drawn by the will full exclusion of all defense Council from the meeting among chief justice judge Glenville the state and uh sworn witness Copeland was to harass and intimidate the sworn witness in the testifying now when Glenville denied the motion Weinstein said that he disagreed and he asked Glenville isn't he interested in removing the cloud that's hanging over the case right now to that Glanville essentially warned the attorney I'd be very careful if I were you yeah definitely sounds like a threat from somebody who's supposed to be a neutral and impartial judge here you know what I'm saying Atlanta based dellet attorney Andrew fman he criticized glanville's remarks saying that his words were another reason for him to Ste down from the YSL trial as fman put it threatening someone who has moved to recuse you is recus period in point blank guys I mean in the Brian steel motion the court AKA judge Glenville is accused of being so biased against undersigned Council Andor Mr Williams the court ignored all laws and pursued contempt penalties to attempt to in intimidate undersigned Council to violate the law and ethics in order to continue to help the prosecution to convict Mr Williams and many others couple of days later steel confronted the judge again in court about how copelan was being treated by the Fon County DA's office comparing it to communist Russia steel even asked the judge to revisit his decision on the motion explaining that he plans to ask Copeland about how much pressure the court put on him when it's his chance to cross-examine a witness and that he plans to put the court AKA judge GL Glanville himself and the prosecution on his witness list in fact Brian steel raised concerns too about Judge glanville's plan to review the transcripts of the EXP parte meeting before turning them over to the defense however judge Glenville was not swayed and continue to deny Steel's motion in fact Glenville also addressed a motion from attorney Caleb Bumpus to squash a show cause order linked to the EXP parte meeting judge Glenville he issued the show cause order to those was present at the meeting ordering them to show cause why they should not be held in contempt for disclosing the meeting to Young Thug's Attorney judge Glenville told Bumpus his team that he would look into the quash motion once they were done with the current witness now the trial that started on November 27 2023 after the longest jury selection ever has been pretty much all over the place with all the arrests charges and disruptions legal commentator Pam Keith really laid out the situation on X arguing that judge Glenville should just step aside she pointed out that he messed up by holding an inappropriate expart meeting and basically made himself a part of the very crime he's supposed to be judging against as Keith said the judge cannot decide the criminal contempt issue because he is a material witness to the underlying event and he should recuse himself because the ex parte meeting was way improper to begin with it's not the role of the judge to help the prosecution manage his Witnesses she also added that the judge was obviously Furious that he got caught doing something he had no business doing in the beginning but trying to strong armed counsil to reveal their sources is not the answer Danny Willis's rival Ashley Merchant also called for Glenville to recuse himself while representing Brian Steel in the contempt case as she pointed out Mr steel is entitled to all the same due process rights that Mr Williams and every other defendant in the courtroom is entitled to he's entitled to those one of those is to have a fair and neutral judge decide this case by the way her request was also denied by whom of course it was Judge Glenville now attorney Michael Cree a law professor of Georgia State University agreed that glanville's actions towards steel meant he should recuse himself Prest explained that the thing here is that he's already alleged to have created an actual Conflict by his actions not a ruling judges cannot respond by unduly taking their feelings out against the attorney like judge Glenville did conservative legal analyst Phil Holloway predicted that someone would request a recusal tweeting that there's no way Glenville can keep being the judge in this mess as he pointed out on X a motion to to recuse in Georgia must be heard by a different
