#nickjonas #jonasbrothers #asiannetwork Nick Jonas joins Nikita Kanda on the Asian Network Breakfast Show to talk about his favourite Priyanka Chopra films, swearing in Hindi and his love of spicy food!
Well, I don't think this guest here needs much of an introduction.
It's only Nick Jonas here on The Breakfast Show.
Welcome, Nick.
Hello. Hello.
Happy to be here.
I'm so happy you're here in the UK.
Welcome.
And before we get into things, can I call you Juju?
Sure.
I feel like it's only right as you're here on the Asian Network to call you Juju.
A lot of people call you that, right?
A lot of people do.
We were we were just in Mumbai recently.
My wife and I for the cultural center, the Ambani's Open.
And it was a great event.
And all the photographers on the red carpet were calling me Juju.
Well, they were also calling you something else when you were there.
Did you hear this?
Yeah, Nikua.
Nick Jonas, they're like, Oh, Nikua.
Yes, I did hear that.
It was it was very good to be back.
And I love I love India.
And it's been a couple of years because of Covid since I was there.
So this was a really fun trip.
But yes, great to hear all the many nicknames I have now.
Let's jump straight into Maan Miri Jaan.
I'm obsessed with it.
We've been playing it here all over the Asian Network.
How did it feel singing in Hindi?
Well, you know, the funny story is that at first I I had just sung
the parts in English.
I co-wrote some of those sections with a friend of mine
and we were playing around with kind of how to integrate something in Hindi.
And after a few different mixes, I was playing it for Priyanka
and she made the suggestion.
She actually was on set
when I was recording it.
And I FaceTimed her to have her coach me on the pronunciation,
make sure I was saying it correctly.
I was going to ask you that.
Did she give you some coaching?
She literally produced that part of the track
from her shoot she was on.
It was very, very helpful.
Well, it's only right because she's your Jaan, isn't she?
Indeed.
So it's only right.
And you must have picked up on so many phrases like, you know,
you've been to India quite a few times.
You obviously married to one of the biggest stars out in India, Priyanka Chopra.
And have you picked up any Hindi phrases?
A few. Her friends decided to teach me all the bad things,
all the bad phrases when I first got there.
No swearing here on The Breakfast Show, please.
Of course, of course, of course.
They didn't tell me what I was saying.
And then I, you know, figured it out later on.
But it's you know, it's it's amazing that there's there's
bits and pieces now that I understand and kind of string certain things together.
And then mainly I just listen for sort of like,
you know, the words I know, which are mostly food.
Give us one. What foods do you know?
Paneer is my, you know, my my favorite.
Oh, we love a paneer.
Yeah, of course. Paneer is the best.
So is that your go to?
Raita, obviously I need to have raita. I love that.
There's a couple of spots in L.A.
that we go to and some good Indian food.
But then in New York, she's got her her restaurant, Sona,
which is really delicious Indian food and kind of a bit of a twist on it,
which if anyone is going to New York in the near future is to check it out.
Nick, I got one question, though.
Yeah. Can you handle your spice? Oh, yeah.
What's the spice level like?
It's like very, very high.
And it was funny is, you know, family and friends
on Pree's side still ask me if I want spicy or not.
I'm like, it's been five years, and I know at this point I can handle it.
Right. Well, you're basically Indian now.
So I want to get to know more of your Asian side a little bit more.
You've said you can handle the spice.
You put it out there. You're you can handle extra spicy.
I can. Yeah, I mean, I'm I I love a bit of spice, but but there's a level
not so much in the pickle, you know, like the spicy pickles are intense,
but just the actual curries and all that. I'm good to go.
Well, I've got a little bit of a quick fire for you.
So I want to know what you think.
Is it char or chai? Which one do you say?
Chai, chai, jalebi or gulab jamun?
Which one do you eat? Do you like more of
jalebi?
Oh, jalebi. Good choice.
Samosa or spring roll?
Now, this is a massive debate here on the Asian network.
Samosa. Oh, yes.
He's on my team. Yes.
Bangla or Bollywood?
Bollywood, of course.
OK. Right.
You have to pick now between Priyanka's movies, Baywatch or Bajirao Mastani.
Bajirao Mastani.
I love that. How many times have you seen it?
But Barfi is my favorite of hers.
Oh, that's sweet. And Direcndo's also.
Amazing. I bet you've watched them all.
I've watched quite a few of them.
I mean, there's there's like 70 of them.
So it's like it's a lot.
But yeah, I we actually I don't think we did a big number
from Direcndo. Amazing.
And which one of your brothers are you going to pick?
Kevin or Joe?
That's tough making me pick.
I mean, I can't.
I'm going to pick Franklin Jonas.
He's the youngest Jonas, he's not in bed.
He's the safe bet there.
Cop out.
I was going to say, I used to fancy Joe a little bit.
Not going to lie, when I was younger, I used to have a little crush.
And can we expect any more Hindi music from you?
Yeah, I mean, I think that this collaboration
with King was was just an incredible experience.
I'm a big fan of his.
And this song, you know, when I first heard it, I absolutely loved it.
And he's obviously killing it right now as a as a musician who's,
you know, doing just his own music and not necessarily songs for films.
It's really incredible to see what he's he's built already for himself.
And so this this song was a good first step.
And I think, you know, I'd love to do more collaborations.
And, you know, even even do songs for films, if it makes sense.
I would love to see you in a Bollywood film.
A little cameo? You and Priyanka maybe?
Why not? Maybe.
Let's put it out there.
Amazing. Thank you so much for joining me here on The Breakfast Show, Nick.
Thank you.
