Three fishermen rescued by good Samaritan off Cape Cod

I'm Ellie Moro in Middleboro where one good Samaritan recalls the very moment he helped rescue three fishermen off Squa Island after their boat overturned Monday night. It's a night he says he will remember for the rest of his life. The very moment those fishermen were spotted off Squa Island caught on video. Getting reports of a capsized boat. On board the Good Samaritan boat was Philip Tran, who says a white light guided them to the overturned boat. That's when he says they immediately jumped into action. One person grabbed the rope. I had a light and um the captain, we just went close to him and then uh got them on board and saved them. One of the rescued fishermen told Fire Rescue the boat's outboard motor got stuck in reverse, which caused the boat to overturn. With squid season underway, it's not uncommon for fishermen to sail at night, but safety should always be a priority. At that point, our concern is hypothermia. Um, you know, we've had certainly situations similar with non-positive outcomes. So, they were very fortunate not having um personal flotation devices that someone was in the area to be able to to kind of help them out. It's not the first time an incident like this has happened either. This is the third similar incident reported in the area in recent years. each of the previous two resulted in one fatality. It's still cold out this time of year. Um the sea conditions can get rough. A lot of individuals aren't, you know, really aware of what the sea conditions are here. So, all I would tell you is pay attention to the weather.
