Welcome back to a lot of adventures
Say hello to my mother
We're we're back in Boise. I'm I'm in Boise until until Monday. So we got another I think four days four days, but
We're gonna do part two of the Idaho penitentiary in Boise, Idaho
Because we have a we have a guest we have a guest here. Yeah, it's Katya
She actually loved that video so she wants to do the another video with my mother at the penitentiary and
We're gonna we're gonna say hello Marina. That's that's Katya's Katya's mother. Hello Marina and Nellie
Nellie and turkey
No, okay, so
So what we're gonna do is we're gonna go in we're gonna go in and tour the penitentiary by the way
This was built in
1870 it was active
active for a hundred and one years
from the Wild Wild West years all the way into
the
20th century
So, let's go
Okay, let's go
Okay walk faster
All right, okay
Yes, we went three tickets
836 76
One senior and here's
All right
We went here about a year and a half ago
Yeah, we got it
Yeah, we're gonna do it
No
Okay, okay, let's go
All right, all right
Okay, we're inside the prison but before we go on the tour I want to give a shout out to Katya
she's actually watching our dog Obie and
We really appreciate it. So big shout out to Katya
Here we go. All right
You ready?
All right, let's go
Okay, where are we going first? All right Katya, you got the map. Let's do this one here
Let's go to the Rose Garden go to the Rose Garden
1890s sill house overcrowded conditions forced construction of the building sells on the second tier
Housed female inmates until 1905 it was called the new cell house and one house. So yes
They actually had women
women inmates here
And not up until 1905 in this building right here
But then after that they put them in they put them in I guess their offices now, so
There you go
Okay, next up we have what was considered well it was
Called the dining hall a bakery plunge bath and storerooms were located in the basement
While the kitchen and dining hall took up the ground floor
This was the dining hall
Yeah, yeah, maybe this yeah if I remember right yeah, there's a fire okay, thank you mom
Okay, next up we have what we call the Rose Garden
And does last time we was here. It was in the winter. I didn't see any roses. This actually does look like a rose garden
But this is different than your normal Rose Garden
It began as a vegetable garden by an inmate. This area was the site of six
executions by hanging
from
1900 to 1929
And then you can see there's a little watchtower up there
nice
Yeah
Okay coming up here. We have the wall
From 1893 to 1894 inmates poured rock from the foothills and built the prison walls
So this is what the prisoners built
by the way
the total
amount of inmates
in the hundred one years
That actually resided here was 13,000 inmates
900 inmates tried to escape and
99 actually were successful
so
Here we go
1953 inmates dug an escape tunnel here
They began digging in a storage shed that has since been removed and were within six feet of freedom when a guard discovered their attempt
All right
Are you guys listening?
All right, okay
She is she's she's gonna speak fluent English when she gets back to the men's
Okay
Parental discretion advised adult themes and language ahead good thing you're here mom
So we got inclusive
institution
Kenneth McClennan
like Laura Marie brunch brunch I
Okay
Prison staff
Global representation, so there is inmates from all over the world Belgium
Netherlands
hungry
Canada Mexico
Guatemala France
Area Russia
Are you related are you related to these Russian people?
No
Okay
Japan Australia everywhere Wow
50 states 50 inmates
So they they're from all over the place
race of inmates
Race and origin mostly born in the United States some
Some were actually born or most of them born in Idaho. Okay
Okay, I'll wait we got past and present up there
past present
1918 229 men 7 women
236 incarcerated
Oh
Here's the barbershop
1902
All right
We came in here last time mom, but we didn't really go over
So 18
72
1890
The history
10
1935
Extra
1952 looks like they're playing horseshoes
And then 1958 looks like they're playing handball
You got 1966
There's a photo
1966 prison officials prepare for a swift shakedown of every cell
Hospital
1971 st. Louis Yakanetti emerges from an escape tunnel. Although maximum security
discovered just before the 1971
So yeah
And I guess this is
The dining hall
Prison riot. Oh, yeah
1973
Young punk guards needle us and then laugh at us among themselves. Don't get me wrong
There are some good guys who work here
But if you get a man who cares who comes to work here and is a decent sort of a guy
Then the others gang up and get rid of them
But you know what prisons are not supposed to be pleasant
Well, there we go a little bit of history
Let's go
Okay behind us is the shirt factory. So
Show you here, so they
Produced or manufactured shirts
starting in 1923
And also license plates
Like they had some boxing
very cool
Okay
This is the basketball court full court
Looks like last time we're here
both rims or
Or attached to the backboard, but not now
Not now
Okay, what I'm following you let's go
You can lead the way
You can lead the way into that
dark hole
Well, this is accident security
This is where all the dangerous
prisoners
Gallows, oh we've been here. This is the gallows. Let's go up to gallows
This is funny
Dumb waiter used for food service
That's that's great. So they come up here and get their food
Death row
She had Raymond Snowden
Prisoners noted wrote letters to his family in Massachusetts
He fouled his days with crossword puzzles
And occasionally visited with the penitentiary chaplain who was executed on October 18th
So looks like that's a Bible all his crosswords are still there
So we're here
Supplying for the cells
David Heater
Very cool
1978 Governor John Evans
signed a bill changing the legal form of the county
Hanging to death in 2009
Legislature
Legislature reordered her death by firing squad
Stories of the Hanging Ten
There's ten of them
Alright
Here's a display case of some of the weapons that they made
inside the prison
They got a slingshot
A steel web glove
Those are actually really nice knives
Looks like they made them from the kitchen
You got a screwdriver
Wow
Here's one
An ISP inmate displays the slash wounds he received
in a fight in number one yard
A man cut with a straight razor
Stolen from the barber shop
Retaliated by stabbing his attacker
In the neck with a knife
Clutching his throat
The instigator of the fight
Staggered to the captain's shack
And died moments later
The prison official points out a spot
On the attack
Well there you go
Okay so behind me
Was where the hospital was
But it burnt down
Burnt down
In 1971
So
Basically
Like I said in the previous
Video
If you have no hospital
You have no prison
Because there's always stuff going down
So anyways
This is where the prison
Was located
I'm sorry
The hospital
Here's where
The guard station
Was located
You got a little
Cardboard cut out of a man
There
Okay
Okay this is what we've been waiting for
This is a
Solitary confinement
Yeah
There's six rooms in here
This is where they take the shower
Once a week
Here's the radiator
This is where he eats
The six rooms
Want to go in one of the rooms?
No I don't need to
What's up guys
A few pointers
A little sun
Gives you a little hope
And
This is the only one that has a gate
Well that one does too
Or a door
Looks like right here
Is where they got shot
Welcome home
Yeah let's see
Not as cold as last time
Last time we came here in the winter
But solitary
So they were able to take one shower a week
Unless
Unless they did something wrong
Alright
Watchtower
Nothing over here
Okay
You go down this way?
Yeah if you want
There's spiders down there though
No there's not
Alright
Oh there's another door
Siberia 1926
Solitary confinement
Cells were used as punishment
In isolation for unruly
Or dangerous inmates
Sentences varied from one day
To several months
Depending on the infraction
Oh we didn't come in here last time
Oh wow
This is
This is named after our Russian
region, Siberia
Oh wow
Okay this is real
Solitary confinement
Wow
Okay go in there
Come on
Go in there
Alright
Well
Thought it was supposed to be ghosts here
Yes
Subtle paranormal
Yeah
Groups have been out here
And they have detected ghosts
Oh this one's looking glad
Here we go
Counting the days
Getting out
What is the answer
I was here and you were gone
Now you are here
Looks like these are the shoes that they wore
This one says
I was here and you were
Now you are here
And I'm gone
Butch Jonas
That was the same thing up here
I don't think
You probably had like a fourth graduation
I think
Lined up in this
Oh look
Well at least something's beautiful
in here
Okay
Great we went down the back alley
Okay
And here we have the kitchen ice house
Used as refrigeration
And storage for the kitchen
Okay
Oh
Locked though
This is where they kept all the
All the food
That needed to be refrigerated
Okay this area right here
Which is a twenty foot area of dirt
Separated
From the wall
And from the
From the main yard
The inmates were forbidden to set foot here
If found in the area an inmate
Received a verbal warning
Deadly force came next
Probably from
A guard up in that tower
Interesting
What's up here
Guard towers
Guards monitored inmates from the four stone towers
So
Boom
Probably down over there
And then over there
Okay
They are numbered
Counterclockwise
Beginning in the northwest corner
This is tower number four
Alright
Okay we just finished the entire prison
We found some
Places that we didn't
We didn't go to last time
So this is more
Comprehensive
So I hope you enjoyed it
Until next time
Ciao
