Healthy Animals on the Farm
On a small farm, Mr. Nam has many animals.
Every day, he feeds his cows and pigs with grass, corn, and rice porridge.
He wants his animals to stay strong and not become weak or tired.
Sometimes, one cow loses weight and looks thinner.
Mr. Nam calls the vet to check its metabolism.
The vet does some tests and gives the cow some medicine.
After a few days, it gets better and can move around again, though still slowly.
Another time, a piglet has diarrhea, cannot eat well, and its digestion is bad.
The vet explains that absorption of nutrients is very important for baby animals.
He gives the piglet some milk and special medicine to help its stomach work better.
One morning, Mr. Nam sees a cow acting strangely.
It is noisy and tries to mount other cows.
The vet smiles and says,
Don't worry. She is in heat. It's natural.
Her hormones and pheromones control her behavior.
The vet explains that signals from the body tell the cow it is time to mate.
These hormones also control growth and other body functions.
Mr. Nam learns many new things about animal health.
Good food helps with digestion and metabolism.
Healthy hormones help animals grow and reproduce.
He now checks his animals every day to be sure they stay strong and happy.
