#3 A Desperate Quest for A/C

[Music] in this episode we desperately try to get airon fitted now we're here at our cottage for 6 weeks in the summer looking w m it is a bit warm oh my goodness we go looking for tiles so we can start our kitchen renovation and we walk along a beautiful River it's 10:00 in the morning and it's already 35° for the last 6 weeks we've heard nothing from the electrician who promised to fit our aircon when we got here in July when the electrician came here in April to see if he would quote for the work he told us before he could fit airon he'd need to have the walls rendered inside and out so the units could be correctly attached this has already cost us €2,000 we are heading out on a important Mission we are going to the electrico domestico shop so uh about 6 weeks ago was it that long I don't know um in England I messaged him on WhatsApp and said okay this is when we coming out um can you do it on this day or can you do it on this day which is best for you didn't hear anything back when we didn't hear anything we started to get a bit worried so today so this is the day today after we've got here we are going to his shop and we are very apprehensive because is he going to say yes is he going to say no it's hot here we would be extremely grateful if he said yes I will come and do your airon so that's where we're going now now originally um we were planning to come out in May and June then I decided to accept the long-term job as a French teacher so we changed our holiday dates and that is the reason why um we planed to come out in July and August knowing that we had no airon that's why we made such a big um big deal of making sure we could get aircom good news he can do it bad news he doesn't know when because it's not him that will come to do the installation he's got to book two but guys from a town 40 Mi away so he said he's going to text on Wednesday or Thursday to let me know when or if they can come so I suppose what we need to remember in all this is It's a massive priority for us because uh despite the thick walls the really thick walls of the cottage it's very hot here but for him it's not really a priority it's just a job so after yet another freezing cold shower we set off on the long drive to Leroy Merlin in Moria to buy wood and tiles at least we've got airon in the car we don't actually know where we're going just just following the sna um Google knows where you going yeah Google knows so that's great um we have been to a a Leroy Merlin once on a um oh yeah flying visit when you were building the shower didn't we that's what we went for because in Spain um it's really difficult to buy wood and um we actually checked through the Builder um when we paid him yesterday for the um the roof and um P we said where can we buy wood locally and he said you can't and that is because um builders in Spain don't really use wood they use aluminium so all the window frames the door frames they're all aluminium it the problem with turmo turmo turits uh with termo termo I said it again can't speak today termite and [Music] WW yeah that's very interesting that that says taunting guardian and in the middle of spine that is ridiculous yeah they are really they are pretty you don't like those ones where they're all sort of like patchwor do you no no like um just the same one repeated yeah yeah so for me it has to be like um yeah the two H pods they go on my nerves those ones that are like like that where it's just random um yeah so for me oh my yeah it is that one cuz I remember your name okay so what do you think yeah that's a little yeah yeah just have a look yeah things where you have an entire wall of symmetry to me look a lot better and like those at the top yeah well it's just like a random pattern okay so we're ordering a load of those it say yeah 72 hour oh yeah wow yes purple M the easiest thing I be these cuz they're just huge yeah but you get away with only buying two or three of them and do the entire wall in one go yeah yeah that's more traditional old Spanish isn't it yeah yeah and those those are the colors I want so yeah while we wait to hear about the airon and for the tiles to arrive in store we decide to start clearing the big room downstairs in the barn and take anything we won't use to the nearest tip I'm getting the [Music] car so next installment of the air conditioning storage Tuesday we went into the shop because we hadn't heard anything from Jose but he said I'll text you Wednesday or Thursday to let you know when it's going to happen it is going to happen uh so didn't hear anything Wednesday or Thursday so Friday morning I texted him and he said yes sent a message straight back saying yes it will be Monday I'll let you know what time didn't hear anything on Friday about the time didn't hear anything on Saturday about the time still waiting for news about the airon and the tiles Rob gets started on another job so what's the plan there loose uh just bring it out the pilet ready for to the tip and then get in and sweep it and uh get as much mck out as we kind sweeping it then I'm afraid it's a job for Henry Good Old Henry Henry the ho just get some abuse quite a useful room it is a very useful room actually um very useful well if we're having solar panels with batteries I don't know if this would be a good place to store the batteries to honest yes cuz it gets them out the house also if you have a backup generator or anything like that obviously that's going to have an exhaust so we could always whack a hole through there to run the exhaust to the outside wall if we ever F the need to get a backup generator and while Rob's in the barn I decide to make a lovely [Music] dinner I have to say if my sister's watching this she's going to think I need my head examined because I am making a beef casserole and it is approximately 37° outside is that even big enough is that even big enough I've only got two um two casserole dishes um so I had a beef craving and um so today in the supermarket I thought beef please give me beef and did I say um I am on the whole a vegetarian or should I say pescatarian because I do I do sometimes eat fish I am not by any means one of the world's greatest Chef okay so very nice looking beef car de vuno black pepper stock this is the oven we haven't used very much um I did the bread experiment and that mostly worked although it got burnt on the bottom an Mar come in with a test of the cooker okay it's cool down now so it's all right to touch so the question is will this cooker be all right or will we need a new cooker that is a question who Chef not not the chef because remember last year when your parents came I made some banana bread in this oven and it was like super mushy underneath and rock hard on top so be prepared we might have exactly the same thing here super mushy inside and rock hard on top well I'll tell you for a definite fact Che that drink the bottom has gone burnt so yeah that was my fault I left it too long I'm just hoping inside might still be all right okay taada right bread it looks like a loaf anyway it looks like a loaf it is a loaf yeah looks like it's stuck to the glass it's stuck to the glass glass but look I don't too come on it only needs a bit of encouragement right that yeah look it's it looks all right it definitely looks like a l to go e with the I hope you're not feeling ungrateful look at that it's flipping homemade bread this one they we got that saw still might need it change yeah that ain't too bad oh my goodness it looks like it's cooked wow it is [Music] cooked good that joker since then I have cooked some fish in here and that was very nice so I am oh yeah we also book and pizzas so um I am reasonably hopeful that this will actually work I hope so anyway I don't want to ruin this beef so we've got one baking um one rack uh there weren't any racks in here when we bought the house so we got this from a federa hardware shop and we had to bend it a bit to get it to fit in okay the only thing is is this going to be too heavy for the rack [Music] because if it tips up and runs out no it's looking okay all right then I'm quite positive about this looking forward to my nice beef dinner how's that going then sweating like a sweaty thing what we don't the floor's a bit soft is it yeah yeah I don't know if it's just really in H or what it is but they put some on top in there look so it just wants yeah a decent base putting down in here but I'm paintting but apart from that brilliant yeah I'm happy with that yeah that's great yeah yeah Fab well done look yeah Fab little room it is good very useful and uh is the door all right uh yeah it's uh okay it is okay he's going to B if we feel the need we can replace it but yeah that'll be fine for keeping batteries in and things won't it it has got a A smid in of woodworm shall we say yes yeah it will do is it it will that's Fab yeah and that's what happens when it gets hot good idea that is my okay then so oven experiment number two beef casserole probably doesn't matter at this stage what it what it tastes like because I'm really hungry yeah to be fair I could eat just about yeah within reason just about anything okay lift your PL okay I don't know what the beef is like because it was only the choice of two different types of beef it smells Fab so it does doesn't it yeah okay super duper get it down yet I think that's okay I think we can keep this oven actually really nice that's all right though is it let you me dinner again very good today Sunday we've been to church I left my phone in the car and when we got back to the car the car was so boiling hot you couldn't actually touch it and it had turned itself off but thankfully the phone's okay so once I turned it back on I saw a message from Jose saying can I come around this morning and bring you the airon machines and so frantically texted back and say said oh we're not home at the moment but we'll be home by 4: is that okay didn't hear anything got home 4:00 sat here waiting and then 6:00 sent a message saying I can come between half 6 and 7: so he turned up at half six and now we have so now we have a lovely stack of airon machines hooray waiting for tomorrow when they them and come and put them in we're just so happy cuz it's really boring here really great news today it's Monday and the installers turned up exactly as they were meant to do we got straight on with it they've already installed the three inside units and now that they've actually started on the outside ones it's just after 2:00 so they've gone for Spanish lunch probably in I think in the bar down the road and um it's looking like we will have everything installed by tonight so we can actually have a cool night sleep which will be such a massive relief because um it's very very hot and I have to say that was not the best night sleep of my entire life so looking very hopeful at last it's been so hot today I'm so happy yes and so as we're both feeling so relieved about the airon and relax now we decide to go a bit further a field for our walk this evening [Music] F that [Music] [Music] C [Music] [Music]
