Bonjour! We have had such a lovely fall here so far with beautiful sunny weather! We are slowly making progress on the bedroom and bathroom. We are taking more time for ourselves which is wonderful but it does slow down the building process dramatically :) But little by little things are coming together! Thanks so much for your support! It's funny how each year at the end of
summer, I see fall and winter as this
endless stretch of time with open days,
empty calendars where I can do all the
things that I was planning or wanting to
try or try something new, learn a new
skill, whatever. But every year when
it's October, November,
it's not like that. I still feel like I
have a lot of things to do. I am
juggling things for work. We still have
guests. We still do this. We still do
that. We still got a lot of projects
going on. And it's so funny. I don't
know why every year I keep thinking
again and again that this time will be
quieter.
But I have to say, I am taking more time
for myself this fall, meeting with
friends, just slower days, and I'm
really, really enjoying that.
And also the weather has been so nice
this fall. We've had warm days, sunny
days, even up to 20° in November.
I thrifted a beautiful little table. I
will be honest with you, I have not
decided what it's going to be for. I
just found it. I usually scroll on a
website called Leon quite a lot. It's
where private sellers can sell whatever
stuff they don't need anymore. And when
I saw it, I just knew I wanted it. and I
don't really have a project for it, but
we're doing so many things still in this
home. And so I picked it up and Olaf is
helping me to take it out of the van.
We need to turn you into a camper cat so
you can come with us next time.
Okay.
Usually when I buy old furniture, I
treat it against woodworm. This table
actually when we put it in the van when
I picked it up, I turned it around and a
lot of sawdust came out of it, which
means there is active woodworm in it.
And you do not want to bring that piece
of furniture into a house like mine
where a lot of the structure of the
house is wood. So the roof, the beams,
everything, the bugs can go from that
piece of furniture into your beams. You
don't want any of that. I don't want any
of that. So, I need to treat this
whether I like that or not.
I have treated and left it outside for a
while so any of the fumes are are gone.
And now I've put it inside on this old
curtain cuz I want to be able to see if
there are still active woodworm in
there. There will be new sawdust on the
ground. And this is a good way to check
if they are all gone. And if they're
not, you need to repeat the treatment.
Meanwhile, Olaf has finished all the
beton. I still don't know how to
translate this in English. A lot of you
are asking, "What is that Finnish? How
do you do it?" I am hesitant to share
any translation that I Google because
I'm never sure if that's going to be the
exact same product that we use. So, I
have included a link in the description
box to the product that we used. It's
not sponsored or anything, but at least
if you're looking for a similar thing,
this is exactly what we put on. In any
case, I think this little shower room
looks wonderful already. Odaf installed
the shower, the toilet, and it's
starting to come together, and it makes
me very happy.
Odaf has also worked on the other part
of our bathroom, which is open into our
bedroom. A lot of people don't like that
concept. I actually really do because it
feels like this is a big invitation that
I see every day to take care of myself
and take some time to relax. I don't
take a lot of baths. I don't feel
comfortable using a lot of water. I
never fill it up all the way. I do enjoy
it and I think it looks wonderful. So,
on the wall, little wall behind the
bathtub there and on the vanity, we've
put the same product.
This space is actually the first ever we
got finished following the real plans
that we had for the house. It is
currently our bedroom, but it was always
intended to be a guest room. And it's
beautiful. I'm very happy with it. It's
not finished, though. It doesn't have
the bathroom yet, but I have been
wanting to change the color of this
wall. It is a project that's not even on
our endless to-do list. It is not
urgent. It is not necessary. And I love
my husband so much for understanding
that the wife has an idea. And you can
argue whatever you want. She'll do it
anyway. So, he's helping me move the bed
so that I can paint that wall, which is
completely unnecessary.
It's very pink.
That is very pink, but I love it.
You don't even see it on camera. Doesn't
even look like a color.
Actually, now that I look at it as it's
drying, it's not that bad. But, you
know, you all know Olaf,
it's not going to be good enough for
him. That's for sure. So, it will need a
second coat. I'm guessing I'm not going
to be the one putting that on. That's
going to be all off. At least I'm happy
with this because I can see that I like
this color. The room feels softer now. I
wanted this to be a very feminine room.
And I haven't really shown this room.
Um, but I have this beautiful wardrobe
here that I thrifted and painted white.
And then I love this piece that I have.
And there's just so many nice elements
in this room. And I think this color is
it's already making me a lot happier. We
will still be sleeping in this room for
at least a month or so, I think. But
then after that, I want to turn this
into a really beautiful guest room
because this is where everybody that I
love and who will come stay with us will
probably stay.
I'm going to have to get check.
Is it nice? I'm going to feed somebody
who is dying to get cook.
You eat it? Yeah. Come on. Come on.
Come on.
I also wanted to share a little bit of
the fun day I had with a truffle hunter
whom I met for my new book. We have
truffles in Burgundy and I wanted to
share a little bit about that and learn
about them. So, he took me and two of my
friends to a truffle in Ku with his dog,
which was so wonderful. And I'm happy to
be sharing a couple of images of that
with you.
We
>> truffles can be found in the wild here
in Burgundy, but you're not allowed to
just go look for them and take them home
with you. It needs to be either public
property, which technically almost
doesn't exist in France, or you need to
know who owns the land and ask for
permission. Gerald has actually planted
all these trees here. And so this is his
what we call a triier where he grows his
truffles. Apparently back in the day
people would use pigs. Nowadays it's
more common to use dogs. They can smell
where the truffles are. They could be
anywhere here. A human would not be able
to smell that a truffle is ready to be
harvested. A dog does. So the dog
actually points out where you need to be
digging. And I loved seeing how the dog
and the truffle hunter actually work
together. The dog smells that there is a
truffle here somewhere starts digging
and then after a while the truffle
hunter makes the dog stop digging and he
digs and then they have found the
treasure together. And it's I love
seeing that connection, that
relationship between Gerald in this case
and his beautiful dog. And I really fell
in love with this dog. She was such a
sweetheart.
>> Gerald told us that he has a beautiful
view from his tri. If we would go up
this container, it would even be more
beautiful. So, of course, my friend and
I thought that would be fun and we
climbed up there and it was
breathtaking.
This country keeps surprising me. The
diversity in landscapes and experiences
that you can have in this country, it
will never cease to amaze me. So, thank
you so much for following my journey,
for coming with me to all these
beautiful things that I discover about
this country and sharing all of that
with you makes me very happy. Feeling
all of you knowing that you're watching,
reading all of your comments really
means a lot to me. It makes me feel
connected in a world that sometimes
feels like it's completely falling
apart. Thank you so much for being here.
I'll be back with a new video very soon.
