Today we are in Camp Hill Pa (Harrisburg) to film the Capital City Mall. The mall opened in 1974 and thrives to this day. It apparently crushed the nearby Harrisburg Mall. They’re total opposite. The floors appear original but the ceiling elements and columns look like maybe an update was had int eh early 2000s, if anyone knows let me know. The anchors are jcp, dicks and Macy’s as well as Dave and Busters so nothing terribly upscale. A simple mall that I’m cheering on.
And if you would like to grab a work of
original art done by Lid Wetszel, head
on over to my Etsy shop. It's going to
be pinned in the comment and in the
description and bio.
These are acrylic on canvas paintings.
So head on over if you want an original
piece to hang on your wall.
Hey guys, I'm in Camp Hill,
Pennsylvania. This is the Harrisburg
area at the Capitol City Mall. I was
just at Colonial Park Mall.
So far, these two seem like they're
going to be polar opposites. This place
is thriving. It looks like it's got full
anchors. Let's go walk around and see
what we can find.
Looks like this is going to be a food
court entrance already.
We have a full parking lot here.
Oh, nice.
The ceiling.
This is a nice mall.
It's got some I don't know. The
architecture is not terribly updated,
which is nice.
The floor looks like an older style
floor.
It's definitely wellkept.
>> I forgot. I'm sorry.
Dicks.
>> Yeah, it's a little bland.
It's very busy though. that H&M.
>> Interesting to see a Dicks like this.
Usually their house of sport when
they're connected like this, aren't
they?
I remember Parattown Mall had a Dicks as
an anchor.
Sometimes it feels like it's kind of
hard to film in these
these busy places.
I don't know what it is about this place
that
people wanted to come here and support
it and not the other one.
But boy, this is a complete polar
opposite.
>> Smells like sweet pretzels in here.
Must be an antian
nearby.
I got to go find a directory.
Here's their design.
Let me go find a director. There should
be one down here.
There's the anchors.
Dicks, Macy's, J C Penney,
they got Dave and Busters. They got Fine
Wine and Good Spirits.
So, this isn't a terribly fancy place,
but it's just your average mall that
does good. I like this kind of place,
and it does have some design to it.
Uh, it's not completely whitewashed.
This is the kind of This is the kind of
place you want to see. The standard
American mall.
There's nothing spectacular about it,
but it's definitely sustained.
And this isn't going anywhere.
What do you guys think of this place? I
think it is really cool and I'm glad to
see
a mall do this well. It's not like one
of those It's not like Ross Park where
it's like obnoxiously overwhelming.
Uh this is how malls are supposed to be.
This is how they were back in the day.
Um oh, my sweatshirt
is a '9s LA gear sweatshirt. I got it at
the Mommy Antique Mall. So, it was a
vintage antique.
I thought it was appropriate to wear in
my videos. Straight out of the '90s. And
that is our beautiful skylight. The only
complaint I have is that they could have
had a fountain somewhere.
Uh, that would have made it better. I
don't know what it is against fountains
these days.
When was this place last updated?
>> I don't know. I want to say
2000s.
But this floor looks like Lima Mall's
floor,
which is a ' 60s mall. Now, this mall
opened in 1974.
So, I'm wondering, is the floor
original?
I'd be curious to know that
Toy Depot that was um Journeys.
>> So I can see that they fill spaces as
needed.
>> Liinal spaces.
>> Very liinal
spaces.
>> This mall's not bad. I like it.
>> This is like just your standard American
mall.
>> Yeah,
>> it's like how they're supposed to be.
>> Yes,
very much so. I got to go down to the
pennies when there's, you know, J C
Penney still has 600 stores in
operation.
Big line at the uh boba shop.
>> Guys, don't mind me. I walk fast and I
move fast and
sometimes when the places are crowded
like this, it's kind of tough cuz you
really don't want to be obviously
filming like so it's best to just be
slick move fast.
This wing's a little more dead.
Definitely not dead, but it feels like
there's less people.
>> Capital City.
Sweet emotions.
I
>> think I only seen one empty storefront
here.
Fuzzy wall.
Color me mine.
JC Penny.
Oh, look at that.
Look at this ceiling over here.
That's different.
>> Yeah,
>> that's pretty cool.
>> I like some of the designs here. They're
not bad.
>> Diamonds.
This mall was renovated in the late '9s.
>> The
uh former Ames became the JC Penney.
That's interesting. There was a Hex
here, too.
This kind of reminds me of like
Parmatown Mall.
In the comments, let me know if you were
a Parmatown Mall kid. I don't know how
many times I brought that place up.
Probably plenty. But that was my mall
growing up. You guys notice something
about this uh food court? It's got a
Taco Bell. It's pretty unique. You don't
really see that in food courts. I just
wanted to show the ceiling. It's pretty
cool. Pretty cool place.
>> Oh, there's Manny.
>> Hello.
>> Everyone subscribe to Manny Quacky.
>> Don't forget.
>> All right, guys. That's going to
complete my look at the Capitol City
Mall here in Camp Hill, PA.
That was a refreshingly vibrant mall.
Not in an up not in an uppy way. Not in
like an annoying way, just in a like I'm
glad for it way. But any mall that's
thriving, I'm not going to complain.
So,
let me know what you think and I'll see
you guys on the next video.
