A message from Beto O'Rourke
Greetings to all of our friends at Voto Latino. I'm Beto O'Rourke and I'm here in my hometown of
El Paso, Texas to share with you a message of optimism and hope connected to the work that
you are doing where you are and the work that we're doing here in El Paso. Just a few weeks
ago we had President Trump come to our community, the largest bi-national community along with Ciudad
Juarez in the western hemisphere, to attempt to use us as a backdrop to sell his idea of a wall
2,000 miles long to divide the United States and Mexico at a time of record safety and security
along the border. What we saw in response from El Paso, organized by groups all over this
community, is more than 10,000 people coming out peacefully demonstrating and marching for truth
and for the very best of who we are as a country and as a community, reminding the president that
El Paso is one of the safest cities in the United States of America, not in spite of the fact that
we are a city of immigrants, but because we are a city of immigrants, that our greatest strength, our
success, and our security are derived from the fact that people from all over the world choose this
country and our community of El Paso, Texas as their home. They come here to do better for themselves
and their kids. They also come here to do better for this country to which they were called, by
which they are inspired. This is the story of the United States of America right now and you are
deciding it and you are defining it and so I just want to say thank you for all the work that you're
doing. Reinforce that your organizing is working and it's more necessary at this moment than it
has ever been before and to thank you in advance for the great work that you're going to do for
the remainder of this year going into 2020 to make sure that we not only defeat those who would
promote hate and intolerance, but that we also get behind building the America that we all deserve
for everyone here without exception. Thank you for your work.
