Enjoy a detailed look at my practice round and tournament round recaps from the SwingThought event in Knoxville, TN at Three Ridges. Things didn't go nearly as planned, shooting 81-78, but I can only look ahead to what's next!

tournament golf is back i'm in knoxville
tennessee for swing thought event number
five may 30th 31st
feels really good to travel again um but
i'm also pretty rusty because
yesterday's drive up stopped in aitkin
south carolina to film with george bryan
forgot my tripod forgot my ipad forgot
my dongle to get my sd cards
onto the computer and then after the
round i forgot my extra battery in the
golf cart so clearly
having not traveled and filmed in like
four ish months
there's some there's some kinks so
hopefully uh that that's behind me and
there's gonna be no kinks in the golf
game
i'm headed out to three ridges now to
get a little practice round and see the
golf course before
saturday's first round but first getting
the coffee
because nine hours in the car yesterday
i'm
i'm dragging i'm dragging
[Music]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
[Music]
that would be good
600 yard par 5 up the hill
and this green has doesn't look like a
lot of slope but
a ton of slope there's not a lot of
places
they can put these pins so what are you
guys doing right now
uh hole locations and
changing flags our new gradient logo
it's pretty sick it's pretty dope yeah
so yeah just getting ready for you guys
tomorrow i wasn't the only one to spin
out in a cart right you
you were not i uh got fishtailed it the
other day and uh
i backed it into a tree and actually
that's the exact same card i had
yesterday is this part number eight
yeah yeah that's the exact same cart
this is the uh the bark where i hit the
tree right there
exact same part from yesterday walking
up to the eighth hole and this par three
205
lots of elevation there so this is one
where you just kind of
hit a club and see what it does because
i don't have
slope on my range finder so i just hit a
six iron back pin
and uh hit like four feet so this is
just i know now
you know no wind i mean six iron won't
go over the green seven irons gonna be
front third of the green so that's
kind of my reference point for what club
to hit on this hole because of the
elevation
green was a little more shallow than i
thought so six irons pretty well the
club
for this hole again if it's into the
wind probably gonna be a five iron if
it's down one it's gonna be a seven
trees in the distance zap those they're
340. so i know
i mean you can't hit it through you can
see the 150 stakes
holds 420 so that's basically the line i
want
not knowing anything that's up there but
i want to get up there i'll have a
better idea
don't draw again upon getting up here i
remember
thinking maybe take it over that bunker
and turn it that would have been jail
i lost these things a little right and
they both kind of kicked up
here much narrower up here than than you
think down there
can't really i mean this might be a
three wood like you don't
man you can't really hit it past this
150 because it is quite narrow
and if you lose it right you've got
carpath and then long grass
so this is a really really good
challenging tee shot
got another interesting one here this is
the 17th hole and it's 600 yards on the
card
i just dropped the ball at about 300 off
the tee pretty wide open
but it's quite a bit downhill like i
just hit rescue
to like there those back trees were 300
so 600 on the car but playing a lot
shorter
again another another hole where you can
make a late birdie for sure
[Music]
the greens are so good like they're a
little
firm to the bounce but they're still
receptive but there is not
a blemish on any of them and they're
quick
and true this is gonna be fun for sure
okay that's it for my uh like pre
course scouting coming up to 18 here but
i'm gonna wrap it up
for y'all i'm gonna go back to the hotel
grab some groceries kind of load up the
snacks i need to drink a lot of water
because i'm
stupid dehydrated and then come back
here and like that's my time to put in
some work
on the greens and on the range i'm not
going to film any of that now it's
business time
but i'll check in with y'all um later
tonight or tomorrow morning i'll tell
you what
this is a very different experience
traveling
in the covit era you gotta go get your
dinner bring it back to the hotel
and keep that door open i don't want
this hotel room to stink too much
um yeah that's that's it for my day i've
just been editing and to be honest
editing today has been like a nice
release from my mind because
i'm feeling it i'm feeling like serious
doubt and some nerves and some pressure
because i mean i haven't played
tournament golf since
a local one in january and i played
terrible in that one
so i i spent two weeks like really
practicing and really taking my mind off
youtube and really focusing on being a
golfer and
my confidence is high and i like i'm
swinging it really well and i'm thinking
really well
but it's unbelievable how these doubts
can creep in and as i was scouting the
golf course
it's like i'm seeing where i can screw
up and
i mean i'm sure a lot of people can
relate but there's just a lot of demons
when you play the game of golf so
just need to have a relaxing evening and
clear my head and go out tomorrow and
just enjoy it and trust myself
and enjoy it and
results i want to play well but i can't
be focused on them because that's when
you start to control
hold on so tight and or you're afraid to
make mistakes and then it's just
you make mistakes so big difference um
how this is all looking though we're
flipping the nines so
that ninth hole that i talked you
through that's actually going to be the
18th hole so
really great finishing hole and we're
walking no carts
scorecards like we're not exchanging
score cards because
obviously we're just trying to protect
germs flags it's up to the player if you
want to touch it and take it out
it's up to you and then bunkers i don't
believe there's going to be rakes in
them
yet so probably prefer lies in the
bunkers so yeah
pretty different what it looks like to
play golf
in the covid era but hey so friggin
lucky
nonetheless to be traveling and
competing and
even if i have to wear a mask and spray
everything down in the hotel and eat my
dinner in the hotel i'm still
very very blessed and yeah maybe that's
just what's going to keep me
pressing through just that that optimism
and that gratitude
don't know if you're gonna see this
don't know if i'm gonna upload this
don't know if i'm gonna
film anything more this weekend but yeah
8 42 tomorrow let's go play well
[Applause]
yeah round one you saw the score card
and it
uh wasn't very good 10 over par 81
pretty i mean disappointing yeah
it doesn't feel good i mean being out
there wasn't awesome i mean i
enjoyed myself relative to everything
that was going on like it was a
beautiful day
guys were great greens were awesome i
putted really great that was the only
thing that did well
but like you saw in that scorecard i
mean great birdie on the first hole hit
it to like this
from with a sandwich and then on the
second hole kind of a weird stance lie
shank it with my second shot into the
hazard make double bogey
and from there it was just really hard
to kind of feel the club face i was just
it wasn't a mess but it was like i just
didn't know
what what was up or what was down and
then i um
hit a good shot of the next hole made
bogey though because it air mailed to
green
and then on the ninth hole at number
nine
i had 158 from the middle of the fairway
hosel the nade iron
into the fescue looked for a minute went
back huzzled an eight iron into the
fescue
yeah so that's how i made a nine so i
turned it eight over par
which i mean in that moment i was like
man i just don't want to be out here
like
who am i kidding tournament golf is just
not for me like it wasn't that
demoralizing or like that much negative
chatter but anyone that plays golf
under pressure the chatter is there i
just kind of shook it off and
didn't quit didn't withdraw even though
i wanted to like i really really wanted
to
and then play the back nine and finally
like
felt like a golfer by the 17th hole i
had a great shot in that part three made
birdie
two great shots on 18 had 25 feet just
left it a bit short
but those are the only two holes where
it felt like i had control of my mind my
body
and the club face so i mean i'm gonna be
near last place i'll be off really early
tomorrow morning
and all i can really do is just do what
i do when i film like i'm so comfortable
and i'm so relaxed when i film
and i get it i'm not a full-time
tournament player anymore so the
the transition is going to be very stark
but i love competing i love the feel of
this i love the preparation
so i'd have to go out tomorrow and play
better
really and just find something good so
that i can kind of
build on that for the next event i'm
going to play in a few weeks time
and then go from there just trying to
build some momentum
if i want to keep competing part-time
wow making videos but yeah it sucks
81 like brutal
it's so bad um but check in tomorrow and
we're gonna have a better one that much
i'm sure
[Applause]
round two marginally better than round
one
felt a little bit more confident out
there
for the most part but not having any
kind of
sustainable confidence it was kind of
like al's of cards
i played pretty well for about the first
eight holes i just got on the wrong side
of the hole twice
and those were two bogeys and then on
nine i mean i shanked it twice
yesterday from that fairway so i just
like pulled smothered it
left to the green and had an impossible
thing now to make bogey and turn it
three over
then hit a couple good shots on uh 10 11
12 made a birdie 13 good shot like
just missed a couple birdies and then uh
i don't know i feel like maybe i just
got tired or
no excuse but i just kind of limped i
didn't even finish the
last five holes five over going bogie
and then shanked one
made a double par bogie bogey i mean it
sucks
it's it's discouraging it's demoralizing
and all of that but i'm
really trying to not let it determine
my my worth or my like thoughts about oh
do i even
want to waste my time trying to play
again or and all those things because
it's just very normal
any golfer out there when you when you
play poorly you like you you feel like
you gotta go back to the drawing board
and everything but that's
not what that's not what i should do
right now i mean i'm playing fine
i'm gonna go film 59 watch in a couple
days and
it's either going to be a microcosm of
how i just played and i'm going to
struggle
or it's just going to show that when i'm
going through my routine i'm
relaxed and enjoying it i can play
really good golf
but it just just was uncomfortable at
times than when i'm uncomfortable i
guess i
rush myself and i mean when you hit a
couple shanks you just feel like you
have no control of the club face you
don't know where it is
and if my mind isn't 100 focused on just
like rhythm or the target it's
it's a little bit focused on my swing or
where the club is and i don't know then
it's just like it's tough and
thankfully that putted it awesome the
course was playing a lot harder today
like
really firm fast greens but
for all intents and purposes was a fun
week it was great beautiful drive
going back through the mountains here
like through asheville and
eight hours a long drive home it was
good it was a good week but like
the results sucked played bad broke my
camera
so there's just a lot to be discouraged
about but i have to remind myself
not to be discouraged and i just
listened to the first bit of my drive
home
um this morning's message from craig
groschel at life church
that's who kelly and i have been kind of
church attending
wow quarantine i'm going to link it
below because it's just an awesome
message that i needed to hear
to to stay positive and to not be
discouraged and just not lose confidence
and
there's so many things to be encouraged
about and just a bad golf tournament a
broken camera
isn't uh the end of the world and it's
not cause for like oh
gosh you suck you're gonna get bad
comments or oh gosh like
you're you're washed up what are you
gonna ever do no one's gonna like it
this i'm not letting my mind go there i
obviously have work to do at a practice
and uh get comfortable in tournament
golf again
so i hope you enjoyed this look into the
week in knoxville tennessee give it a
thumbs up subscribe if you're not
subscribed
and uh yeah comments
i appreciate all the positive ones i'm
sure there's gonna be some negative ones
but hey it is what it is
but i just hope this is something that
can encourage you and uh you can find
something to relate to in it
as you uh deal with your golf game the
ups and downs and all that so yeah
we will see you in the next video
