Fired State Trooper Michael Proctor
is responding to Karen Reed's lawsuit.
I'm investigative reporter Ted Daniel.
In a 25 page filing,
Proctor's new attorney states that
Reed's suit is essentially a fairy tale
and he wants it tossed out of court.
This is Proctor's most detailed response
since the state police cut him loose in March 2025.
Reed's complaint accuses him of running a corrupt
and bias investigation into the murder of John O'Keefe.
In a formal response,
Proctor claims he did everything by the book.
O'Keefe was found unresponsive
outside 34 Fairview Road in Canton.
Proctor admits he never searched the house
for blood, fingerprints, or DNA,
and he never recorded interviews he did
with people who were inside the house that night.
He confirms his sister was friends
with one of the homeowners,
but he claims nobody got special treatment.
As for his offensive text messages about Reed,
Proctor says those speak for themselves.
Proctor also states that Reed had at least nine drinks
the night O'Keefe was killed.
Reed is suing Proctor, two state police supervisors,
and five others who testified against her
in her murder trials.
At the same time, John O'Keefe's family
is suing her for wrongful death.
A jury found Reed not guilty of O'Keefe's murder in June,
but the civil battle will likely be years in the making.
