From a little girl who hated football, to the unstoppable force behind Chelsea and Australia,
tearing through defenses like a female Messi, Sam Kerr's rise isn't just inspiring,
it's unbelievable. By the end of this video, you'll see how she conquered injuries,
broke records, and became a global icon of the women's game.
And trust me, some of her comeback moments will leave you absolutely speechless.
Welcome to Flix, a place where we uncover the defining icons in the English women's game.

Let's get started.
Sam grew up in a family full of elite athletes, almost all of them involved in Australian rules
football, a sport that feels like a wild mix of football, rugby, and pure chaos.
Naturally, she followed the family tradition.
From the moment she could run, she was playing Aussie rules with the boys,
the only girl on nearly every team she joined.
Competing in that environment shaped her toughness,
her quick thinking, and the fearless style she plays with today.
But at 12, everything changed. Because of gender restrictions in the league,
they pushed her towards soccer, a sport she wanted nothing to do with.
Sam later admitted,
I started at 12. Before that it was all AFL. I hated soccer when I was a kid.
I never even had a soccer ball in the house. Still, she tried it.
And within months of joining a local girls' team, something remarkable happened.
Australian football legend Bobby Despotovsky spotted her and was stunned.
He said he had never seen a young girl with that level of natural talent
and immediately contacted Perth Glory to tell them they needed to sign her.
Perth Glory gave her a trial.
It took only a few sessions for them to realize they'd discovered something special.
With her reputation growing, clubs in the United States began to pay attention.
American women's football was already at an elite level,
and they pitched the idea of bringing her overseas.
Sam accepted the offer and joined Western New York Flash,
leaving Australia with 18 goals in 46 games as a teenager.
She adapted faster than anyone expected.
In her first season, she scored nine times in 12 matches.
The Flash's head coach said something unforgettable.
With her speed, athleticism, and instincts,
if she kept developing, Sam can become one of the best strikers in the world.
He couldn't have been more right.
As happens in American sports, players are often traded or drafted.
Sam had opportunities to take college scholarships,
but she turned them down and returned home to Perth.
In her second debut, she scored the winner,
then followed it with a brace in a 10-1 demolition of Western Sydney Wanderers.
She finished that season with 11 goals in 10 games.
Awards followed her nonstop, MVPs,
player of the season titles, and national recognition.
By 2018, she had 33 goals and was widely viewed as the best women's footballer in the world.
Still, she wanted to prove herself outside Australia.
International clubs offered contracts up to $300,000, a massive amount in the women's game.
Yet Sam stayed loyal to Perth, signing a $400,000 deal.
The following year, she topped the scoring charts again with 18 goals in 13 matches,
including a hat-trick in a semi-final that sent Perth to another grand final.
But eventually, she needed a new challenge.
She headed back to the U.S., this time with Chicago Red Stars.
Her start was slow, seven games without a goal, but once she settled, she exploded.
Sam ended her time in America with 35 goals in 43 games.
Even after dominating two different continents,
people felt she still had another level to reach.
That next level arrived in England.
In November 2019, Chelsea announced that Sam had signed a two-and-a-half-year deal.
The moment the January window opened,
she made her debut against Reading and showed flashes of brilliance.
Even without scoring, her creativity earned her early comparisons to Messi.
Her first goal came against Arsenal,
and she also helped Chelsea beat them again in the final to lift the League Cup.
Chelsea won the 2019-20 league title with Sam in the squad.
Personally, she only scored once in eight games, but her manager's words fit perfectly.
Ralph Hazen Huddle once said scoring is like ketchup.
You shake the bottle for ages and nothing comes out, then suddenly it all pours at once.
That's exactly what happened next.
In 2020-21, she erupted.
Sam scored 31 goals in a single season.
She grabbed a hat-trick to retain the League Cup, won the Community Shield,
dominated the Women's Super League, and reached the Champions League final.
Her 2021-22 campaign was somehow even better.
She scored outrageous goals, delivered key assists,
and produced moments that went viral across the world.
Quick hat-tricks, acrobatic finishes,
and even her trademark backflip celebration became part of her legend.
She scored twice against Arsenal in the FA Cup final
and helped Chelsea complete a domestic quadruple.
She finished the season as the League's top scorer and collected more awards,
including another Golden Boot and Player of the Year.
After returning from the Asian Cup with Australia,
she went on a seven-match scoring streak and shattered her own records.
With over 32 goals that season, many of them match winners,
she became the heartbeat of Chelsea's title runs.
She was named Women's Footballer of the Year and earned a spot in the PFA Team of the Year.
Then came 2022-23, another massive milestone.
She appeared on the global cover of FIFA 23 alongside Kylian Mbappe,
making her the first woman ever to appear on the worldwide cover of a FIFA game.
For Chelsea, she scored 27 goals in 37 games,
stepping up while Fran Kirby, her longtime partner in attack, battled a serious injury.
For Australia, she made history once again,
becoming the country's all-time top scorer,
men and women, passing Tim Cahill with 63 goals.
Sam Kerr's rise to the top is extraordinary.
And still, many believe the best chapters of her career are yet to come.
But as incredible as her journey is,
it's nothing compared to what Lauren James had to overcome to become the legend she is.
