Hey everyone, it's Lisa from Primitive Gatherings and it is time for our January 2026 monthly mini and
This month's quilt is called Anne. So I'm doing a series of quilts named after my mother's
Sister and my grandma and maybe one cousin. You'll have to wait to find out who the lucky cousin is
All right. So let's get going on this project if you
Can see here we have
nine blocks
so we need five blues and we need actually need five reds too because we have five blues and
each
One swaps all the way around so a blue is used on the outside and then it's used in the inside
For each of the blocks and then you have nine
Creams which you will use every one of those
But then you have four red background blocks which use four blue so you won't use one blue
Star in the middle and you won't use one red background
But you can make another block and maybe put it on the back in the center
With those extra cuts that you will have and just check out the quilting on this quilt. It is a miniature
Feather, I don't know the exact name
I can probably get it for us and we'll put it in the description for you
But this was quilted right here at primitive gatherings in our quilting studio
So if you ever need a big quilt or a mini quilt quilted we can handle that for you
All right, so let's get going. I have done some cutting
Ahead and some pre stitching so you don't have to sit here and watch me stitch
Much longer than needed. All right. So here are the three fabrics I pick
So once your cutting is all done, you're gonna sort your blocks out
You're gonna do a background of blue and then a cream and then a red center and you're gonna do that for all nine blocks
And then you will see
Which one you have to add another light to if you want and there's plenty of fabric in our fabric requirements for you to do
so
We are using 10 inch squares and you will like I said you have room to make a little boo-boo there. But
It's a nice piece of fabric to work with so here is
my
Little bit of pre-cutting and I have stitched some of these units already together
So it's very simple. All we're gonna need is eight flying geese
so you need one with the light as the goose and red wings and then you need a navy goose with
White wings
All right
This one is already finished
So I'm gonna teach you how to do this flying geese and then this corner is a simple three patch
So these two will go together and then we're gonna add that
To the two patch when it's done
So not a very hard quilt a little bit bigger than the last couple that we have done
I think they were two inch finish blocks. So this is much bigger than two inches
All right, so let's get going. So I'm gonna take
One of my wings right sides together here on to my goose and you're gonna look to make sure they're
Exactly on there as close as you can get them
And I'm gonna go ahead and stitch these two squares together I
Need to give this a press
before stitching the other side
All right
Now the next side of the flying geese unit
So when you see this like this
You have this. This is exactly a quarter inch
So if you're not hitting that little intersection there, that means something's a smidge off
So you should always be hitting that little intersection
And you do not want to trim off those other dog ears until you put that last triangle on
So I'm going to quickly just open up this to patch with my fingers. Give it a quick little press
And then add that rectangle
Now I can easily finger press some of these units because we have starched all the fabric
So read the directions when you get our patterns
we like to starch our fabrics when we piece with minis and
You will be much happier with the results
All right, so I press that open. I'm gonna give it a quick little press then get the other side of this goose
So I did this with all of the other
Flying geese units find my you want to make sure you have an appropriate size ruler when you're doing this trimming now
I could just take my scissors and cut the dog ears off, which is perfectly fine or
It doesn't take any extra time to lay your ruler on it and give it a quick little trim
And you can kind of just line up to make sure everything is looking good
that dog ear and
Then the other one
Okay, so you can do that to every one of your shapes
so now that's gonna go that way and these two are gonna go together and
Then this one is also ready to go
To that one. So I'm gonna stitch these two and I'm gonna stitch this one to that one
Pre-stitching sure helps on these videos
Now you can put a pin in here, but they really line up pretty perfect
So if you need a pin put one in
And I've been pressing everything kind of open
with these units in here
Okay, so that one's ready that one's ready now this one needs to go to the center
And when you stitch minis, make sure that you shorten your stitch length
So you don't have big stitches in these little pieces
and that way
Also with smaller stitches, you're not going to see the cream color thread when you're stitching two darks together
So you're not going to see little stitches of white in there because I have shortened that
that
stitch length
All right. She's looking pretty nice here
Okay, two more seams so I'm gonna flip these two right sides together I am gonna grab at least two pins here
for
this two seams here
I've got quite the
Collection of different misfit pins here
Okay
I'm just using that leader and ender because it seems like every time I do a video I unthread my machine during the video
So I pull something out too fast or I'm just a little bit impatient. Okay, my intersections are looking good. I can live with those
All right, we're gonna
Flip these two right sides together
Yes iron, we know you need some love to two little pins
All right now these two seams will be pressing open
Okay, so here is our block
And then I'm just gonna give it a little bit of a clean up here on this edge
Get the strings off
In the pattern, it'll tell you what size it should measure at this point. So I just kind of clean up all those edges
really nice and
there is
One of our blocks that we need for Anne
Pretty simple, right? Okay, so we do have kits and
patterns available either download or printed patterns that are available for this whole series and we also have
a
Couple more to go
So make sure that you stay tuned for all 12 in this series of my mom and her sisters
And one cousin. All right. We'll see you next time
