That's how you complete form IMM5710
We pick up where we left off with the personal checklist for the open work permit application
So now we'll start with the first form which is IMM5710
When you click here you're likely to land on a page that says to wait
You click the download button in the top right corner to get and
download the form in PDF format Then you will fill it out in PDF form
The first field is the IUC or Unique Client Identifier When you are
an international student you have already been assigned your IUC
For that we'll need to check your study permit
So here you can see an example of a study permit
The IUC is located here
You can see it's the IUC number 2
And that's the number you'll enter in the first field
So here we'll input a standard number
Just to fill out the form correctly
You select the language you wish to be served in
We'll click on French
And in box number 3 the subject of my request includes one or more of
the following: Submitting a work permit application for the same employer
No that's a closed work
permit That's not what we're
interested in Restoring my
worker status Not that either
Apply for a work permit for the first time or for a new employer
Yes we'll click on that
Obtain a new temporary resident permit only for those prohibited from entering the
territory So this does not apply to us
We'll click only on this box
Next under personal information we'll enter our candidate
Have you ever used a different name
We'll answer no
If you have used another name but that name or pseudonym does not appear on your passport
There's no point in entering here
It will only cause confusion
So in our case we'll say no
Select the gender and date of birth
Make sure the date of birth here matches exactly the one you
entered in the questionnaire otherwise the form cannot be validated
The place of birth will be Lagos Nigeria
Citizenship will also be available in Nigeria
Current country or territory: Canada as a student
As for the date you enter the date shown on your study permit
So your study permit as you can see here was issued on and expires on
So that's the date you'll need to enter here to justify your status in Canada
So we'll add something fairly broad to validate the questionnaire
Question 8: Country or territory of previous residence
Over the past five years have you lived in a country or territory other than the one of your current citizenship or residence
For over six months
Therefore our candidate is a Nigerian candidate who has lived in Nigeria and Canada
Therefore he did not live in another territory so the answer here is no
And you see the entire section the whole chart turns gray meaning it doesn't apply so we're all good
Current marital status here we select single
If you are married or living common-law you must provide
the date you got married or began living together
Just for information common-law partnership means you live with your partner at the same address and can prove it
Therefore the date of the common-law union is the date when you first have evidence such as an electricity bill
where both of your names appear at the same address
In our case we enter single so this entire section turns gray and we proceed
Have you ever been married or in a common-law relationship
The native language will be wherever it is
Can you communicate in French and English
We'll mark yes in French
Have you had your French or English language proficiency assessed by an approved testing organization
Therefore the approved assessment organizations for French are TEF and TCF Canada
and IELTS and CELPIP General for English
So here we'll say no
And there we'll enter our passport details
So again these are just generic details used solely to validate the form
And then we move on to the national identity document section
So if you have a national identity document you answer yes
and enter the item number the issuing country or
territory the issue date and the expiration date
In our case we'll say no to keep things simple and you'll notice that part turns gray
We don't have a U S permanent resident card
And there we'll move on to the coordinated
section We'll enter standard information
Next is the home address the same as the mailing address
If so select yes and the entire section will be grayed out
If not enter "No" and provide your home address
The mailing address is the address where you will receive mail
So that's the most important part The home address isn't really that significant
Make sure to provide a mailing address where you can receive and check the mail you will be getting
And for the email address it's very important to use an email address you check regularly
Because CIC will first contact you by email before reaching
out by mail So here we'll enter our email address and proceed
The next section concerns your entry into Canada Therefore you
must enter the date and location of your first entry into Canada
And you usually have the stamp in your passport
And for the location you write the city where you landed
The reason you initially came to Canada was for studies
And the date and place of your most recent entry into Canada are different from the first time
So yes it is different
We left Canada to visit family in Nigeria and have returned
The last entry was in 2020 just before the borders closed
And the location was always Toronto
Regarding question 4 if applicable provide the visitor record document number
your most recent study permit work permit or temporary resident permit that was issued to you
So pay attention We're an international student with a study permit
And the study permit number is the one at the top
However it's not the one inside the frame
So as you can see this is our standard Canadian study permit
The study permit number is the one located outside the frame
Typically it starts with an F or an E
That's the number you'll need to enter into this field
Definitely not that one because that one won't be valid
And in the section below we'll enter the details of the work planned in Canada
Since there's no job offer we don't truly know the specifics
of the work so we'll do our best based on what we understand
What type of work permit are you applying for
Here we'll answer "Post-Graduation Work Permit " as we are recent graduates
And there you need to enter the employer's details
Since the employer is not yet known we will write "unknown at time of application "
And we will repeat this information in all the other fields
The province is unknown so we'll leave it blank
Job title we'll enter "unknown at time of application "
Brief description same as before: "unknown at time of request "
The duration of employment is unclear so we'll leave it as is
And we move on to question 8
Have you been issued a certificate under the Provincial Nominee Program
Here we'll click "no
" We don't have a PNP
Now we move on to the schooling section
Have you received post-secondary education including university college or apprenticeship training
Yes indeed
And we'll enter the information regarding our studies
Employment: Provide details about your employment situation for the past 10 years
cluding if you've held a government position such as civil servant judge police officer officer and so on
We have never worked
On the other hand you can see there's a small star here
When there's a star it means the information is required
So we'll have to enter something here
We'll just input some information to submit the questionnaire
So under "current professional activity " we'll enter "student "
Now we fill in the same fields to submit the questionnaire
If you leave any required fields blank a red box will appear
and you won't be able to submit the form
So make sure you do this properly
These questions are asked even if they do not apply to your situation
because the IMM5710 is the same form used for students
for status changes and for closed and open work permit applications
So you have generic applications
There you see we don't have a small star
So we can leave all that blank and move on
The next section is the background section
Over the past two years have you or any member of your family
Have you had tuberculosis or been in close contact with someone who has tuberculosis
So we'll enter no
And in fact all these questions are really about safety and health
Have you remained in Canada after your status expired
Have you attended school without
a study permit Have you worked in
Canada without a work permit So you see all these questions
If you answer yes you'll have problems Therefore you'
ll need to justify it with as many details as possible
Why didn't you comply with the conditions of your previous stay
Here we'll answer no because we are a good student
Do you consent to IRCC or an authorized organization contacting you in the future
Yes
And here we will sign date and approve the form
So if we've done things correctly there shouldn't be any error message
If there's an error message we'll fix the error and submit the questionnaire
So here you can see there's an error message
The following field must contain a value
OK
And this brings us here
So we forgot to include the province in the questionnaire
We're going to put Ontario
And there that should be good
So we'revalidating
That's excellent
The validation has been successfully completed
Please print the entire application then sign and date the last page
This page contains barcodes that simplify entering your application
data Therefore since you're submitting your request online
There's no need to print the form
However we do need to save it since now that it's validated
we have the barcodes
And to confirm it's been approved you'll see the small checkmark
as well with your name at the top of the page and your date of birth
So the candidate's date of birth and your
name That's how you fill out form IMM5710
In the upcoming videos we'll explore the other forms
along with the supporting documents
See you soon
