All right guys, welcome to the very first stop of our dealer tour.
We're going on a massive seven day trip, east coast to west coast.
We're skipping the Midwest this time and other parts of the US planning on doing that again
in like a 2.0 dealer tour.
But this is our first stop.
We are way the heck up here in Vermont, nearly in Canada.
This is actually Colby from UltraView Archery's home shop.
He doesn't live far, or hasn't lived far from here.
He lives in Atlanta now, but hasn't lived far from here.
This is his home shop, Pelkey's Archery.
So this is actually a super cool shop.
They run a ton of Joe Ag kids through it.
They are a top premier archery pro shop.
John the owner is super cool.
So we're going to dive right in, look at some of the history.
Colby's actually going to set up a bow.
We're going to set up a bow, pull it off the rack, kind of go, if you were to just walk
in a pro shop, what it takes to get a fully set up bow, some of the steps, and dive right
in and see what Pelkey's is all about.
These are a bunch of old, like old, old archery catalogs, 1993 Hoyt catalog, 93 PSE, doesn't
even have a bow on the front cover.
This is Ragsdale.
This guy, this Terry Ragsdale, for everyone that doesn't know, is like actually the world's
best archer in the entire world.
Look at that mullet, Jonah, that looks like you.
No, this is Colby, he owns UltraViewArchery.com, we're here at Pelkey's.
Like I already said, today we are getting Colby a brand new Matthews bow.
What?
I'm going to go through this fully stocked pro shop, and I'm going to pick the bow that
fits me the best and feels the best, and that's the bow I'm going to get.
Literally just going to grab stuff off the shelf, put a bow together, because Colby's
going to go to Park City Total Archery Challenge and shoot.
And Chris said I would have been made fun of if I had my Giant Invicta with long stabilizers
and a target sight.
Yeah, well you probably will still get made fun of for other things.
At least I'll have a tack bow.
So that's what we're doing right now.
So left or right eye dominant?
Well, yeah, obviously if you're coming in getting a high end bow, most of the time you're
going to know that.
So what we'll do to start things off is, basically I put bows in your hands, see which one feels
the best grip wise, especially if you're coming in not knowing what you want, obviously the
grip is where you're going to hold onto the bow, and that's going to be the most comfortable.
So I usually throw bows in people's hands, see how they like the feel, and then let them
tell me which bows they want to shoot.
So if it's two bows, if it's ten bows, we'll set them all up and shoot them all.
Do you find that most of the people come in knowing what they already want?
A lot of them do, but I do encourage that people try multiple brands because even though
some brands can be more appealing to others based off marketing and stuff like that, we
like to throw them in the hand.
A lot of times they leave with a bow that they weren't expecting.
Alright, so 31 and a half inch draw, right?
So basically we've got the Hoyt and the Matthews to be our top ones for you right now I guess,
unless you want to try something else.
I mean, do you have another one that I can just pull back and shoot without having to
put anything on it?
Yep, the Reckoning will fit you, and I've got a couple of PSUs that will fit you as
well.
We'll just pull them back and shoot an arrow through them or something.
This hinge feels like it has been moved, so that'll be a great, that would be a great
Feel good?
Yeah, it feels good.
It's too long.
Honestly, it's been probably three years since I shot a hunting bow.
It is a tad long.
I don't know what it's at though.
How many is that?
31 and a quarter?
Was it?
Yeah.
No way.
Yeah, if it was a target bow it would probably be pretty perfect, but I feel like you want
a little tighter for the hunting bow.
This is the PSE, Evoke is the cam, right?
No.
No, Evoke is the bow.
Evoke 35.
What was the one you just shot?
Ventum?
Ventum 33.
Oh my god.
Wow.
Yeah, this is long.
I think I'm a 31.
Oh yeah, this is way more aggressive than that.
Wait.
No, it's fine.
I can still shoot it.
More aggressive, eh?
Yeah, like on the release.
Everything else before kind of felt the same.
Right.
But like when it released.
Stiff.
Jarring.
Wow, this has a lot more like, I hate to say it, but like recoil than the Hoyt 2.
Yeah, recoil.
Yeah.
I'd say so.
Just by looking at it.
Like it kicks and...
Yeah, this one's like a lot more jarring.
Evoke 35.
This is the Bowtech Reckoning.
Is it?
Oh my god.
Tim Gillingham, this goes out to you.
This one's different.
Chris, I might be shooting the Bowtech.
Does that feel good?
Yeah.
Feel better than the PSE?
Better.
I mean, I've drawn it once.
I think it...
I like the cam system better than the PSE.
Like see, it's getting real hard here.
Yeah.
And then it just falls into like...
It's still a cable stop.
Also, this is the closest one that fits my draw so far, so it feels real good.
Back off a half inch.
What is this one at?
31?
31 and a quarter.
Yeah, I like it.
All right.
Now, we're actually going to shoot the good bow.
All right.
So this here is the UltraView UV3.
We'll see how she does.
All right.
So this is how you remove the stock Matthews grip here.
I'll show you.
You're going to gently pop it off.
Oh, like so.
Just like that.
Okay.
You take this.
You put it over there.
And then what you're going to want to do before you install your UltraView grip is take all
this stuff off because the UltraView grip's very stiff.
Like it doesn't bend and peel off like that one did.
So if you have this on here and you install the B-Real grip, it's permanently installed.
Yeah, it's permanently installed.
Got an awesome red.
It actually won't look too bad with the black.
All right.
So then you take your B-Real grip and you slip it on like so.
Snug.
No double-sided tape required.
It's installed.
Wow.
Okay.
Now, we're ready to shoot the Matthews bow.
Okay.
What's this one at for poundage?
72?
I was going to say it's a lot more than that bowtank.
What do you think?
I like it.
Like, sincerely?
Yeah.
I feel like...
It's 31 axle.
It's the shortest bowtank.
Yeah.
It's short.
I mean, I do like a good longer axle, but...
I think just by listening in this tight room, it's definitely one of the...
It's one of the better ones.
Yeah.
Just by straight sound.
Yeah.
It's good.
And it doesn't like...
I could feel...
God, I feel like such a stereotypical guy that shoots a bow in a pro shop, right?
I could feel the vibration in my hand on the...
PSE.
PSE and the Bowtech.
Like, I could feel the vibration after you shot with the Hoyt and the Matthews.
Dead.
You don't get that aggressive vibration.
And the Hoyt is definitely quieter than the...
Or the Matthews is definitely quieter than the Hoyt.
So, we're going to pick you out of rest.
We had talked earlier.
Different drop-aways.
So, you have your ham skis here.
QAD.
He's got the HHA Virtus.
It would be the top three for you right now.
So, what are you thinking?
I'm going to do the ham ski only because that's what I shoot on my target stuff.
Okay.
And I know how they work.
So, we'll go with the Hybrid Hunter Pro.
Right-handed, of course.
Yep.
Okay.
Don't give me left-handed grass.
Sight.
You want something that's going to fit your UV3.
So, Fast Eddy XL.
This...
Something that's hybrid so you can adjust it on fly.
Yeah.
So, actually, the Fast Eddy and the XL AccuTouch or Landslide, right?
Yep.
Those are like our top three choices.
Those are like the top three for anything UV3.
They mount perfectly to this.
So, they got them here.
We're going to mount it up.
Stabilizers.
Going with the Matthews Bow.
You can get yourself set up with some Matthews stabilizers here.
We also have the Tetra Series HHA.
It's a Pro Shop only series made by HHA.
So, we have that set up there or the Shrews.
It really doesn't matter.
Yeah, I might actually get genuine stuff.
You can.
I don't care.
Then, I'll probably go with the genuine stuff.
Okay.
Because...
So, I've got 8 and 10.
Is that alright?
Yeah.
Peep.
I've got some Hamski Peeps.
Got some regular Extreme Peeps.
So, it depends on which one you want.
So, you got our Hamski Peeps here.
Got them in the 3-8s.
Got them in the quarter.
And then, I've got some other 7-30 seconds.
Kind of fit you in the middle.
So, I got the Specialty Archery Peep System here.
Just because...
You can read on it on our website.
We actually have a blog on it.
I prefer the smallest peep size that you can possibly use and still be able to see through it.
And they had some Hamski ones, but they only went down to like 3...
3-8s.
3-8s?
That's huge.
I wanted like 1-8.
And this is the only one that fit me here.
So, that's what we're getting.
But Ron's dad started this when?
1975.
And it was just this little small section right here.
And they actually took a shack from the back of the house and moved it up.
And that was his...
That was his shack.
Shack.
Like, that big.
Yep.
So then, he opened the shack.
Was it called Pelkey's at the time?
Yep. Pelkey's Archery.
And then, it literally just grew and grew.
Yep.
Yeah, so they slowly expanded as time went on.
And then, our indoor range was put in in 1994.
Nice.
So, that's when they started our youth program, Joe Ed, and kinda...
So, you can probably see...
Could you literally point out, like, each expansion?
Yeah.
So, it goes to this...
This pillar right here was the original shack.
Oh, yeah.
You can see that pole.
And then, they expanded down, basically, to where the bathroom is.
And then, the rest went on later.
So, it went to the bathroom.
That used to be an office.
Legitimate office, not the office.
I think you should move it back.
So, that little nook right there was kinda like the...
What was gonna be the paperwork area and stuff like that.
And then, it just turned into...
We needed more space.
So, when they expanded on, obviously, they did a second floor as well.
So, we have a secondary range as an overflow upstairs.
And then, from the stairs, this way is inventory.
And then, office.
And above Chris, right now, is a fletching room.
When did you start working?
Oh, geez.
I wanna say it was January of 2005.
Since 2005, when have you seen the shop the busiest?
Oh, last year.
Last year was 100% the busiest year we've ever had.
Ever since 2005?
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Last year was just a banger year.
Last year.
Which, the whole industry, as a whole, boomed with COVID.
Everyone was stuck at home, couldn't go anywhere.
They needed to find something to do.
And it was, like, usually May.
So, we had to close down until May 16th.
So, the end of March through May 16th, we were completely closed.
And then, when we started back up, it was like the floodgates opened immediately.
Usually, we don't start seeing a heavy flow of traffic until the end of July, first part of August.
Last year was June 1st, right straight on.
So, it was just one of those years that we were running around with our heads cut off.
I think I'm a smidge left.
That should have been, like, a touch low.
Yeah.
Just got done setting up my new tac bow here at Pelkey's Archery in St. Albans, Vermont.
It was a beautiful day out.
Shot a whole bunch of arrows at 100 yards.
Had a whole bunch of people turned out.
And where are we heading next, Chris?
It was good. Pelkey's Archery was a lot of fun.
If you are in this area, definitely make sure to check them out.
It's a one-stop shop.
But we are heading down to Reedy's Archery down south of Boston.
We're literally leaving here at 6 o'clock.
Gonna get to Boston, like, midnight.
Wake up in the morning, do it all again.
Obviously, by the time you're watching this video, it's not the right timeline.
But, we're gonna see you tomorrow.
We'll see you guys tomorrow.
