Local non-profit is breaking transportation barriers for homeless veterans and their families.
22 News reporter Sarah Bianame joins us live in studio to reveal a major donation just given to Soldier On.
Christina and Ciara, thanks to several community organizations, a $10,000 bus was donated to Soldier On
along with time and effort to renovate this school bus.
Since 1994, the non-profit has provided programs to ensure homeless veterans and their families have access to housing.
With an array of support services delivered to where they live, this bus is now a bonus.
The renovated school bus was presented to the team today in front of their permanent housing in Agawam.
They're now able to accommodate more veterans with transportation services.
This bus really adds a dimension of being able to bring a larger number of veterans to events,
to community events, to veteran events, to parades.
We're often driving out here to help veterans who are in wheelchairs, so this will solve that problem.
Like Corey said, this bus has a wheelchair lift and is fully accessible.
The other handicapped buses are at their Pittsfield location.
Now, Soldier On started in Pittsfield.
It has since grown to serve veterans in six states.
They're currently working on permanent housing in New Jersey.
Working for you, Sarah Bianame, 22 News.
