Solo female vanlife, UK vanlife, campervan life and simple living.
Sometimes you don't need a month-long adventure. Sometimes you just need one night away.
After a busy period balancing work, family responsibilities, fostering, house renovations and trying to build a more flexible future, I took some time out and escaped in my campervan for one night.
This wasn't about travelling far or ticking off a bucket list destination. It was about slowing down, having time to think, enjoying the simple things and remembering why I fell in love with vanlife in the first place.
In this video: ✅ Solo female vanlife ✅ One night campervan trip ✅ Time to think and reset ✅ Vanlife for mental wellbeing ✅ Simple living and freedom ✅ The reality of balancing responsibilities and adventure
Sometimes the smallest adventures are the ones we need most.

🚐 ABOUT ME Hi, I'm Sara. I lived in a van full time for 2 years while my house was being renovated, and the experience completely changed how I view freedom, money, and simple living. Now that the renovations are finished, I'm back in the house paying off renovation debt, keeping costs as low as possible, and working hard to build online income through YouTube and other projects. My goal is simple: create a sustainable income that allows me to spend extended periods on the road again and eventually make vanlife a permanent part of my future. On this channel, I share the honest reality of vanlife, budgeting, debt payoff, simple living, travel, and my journey back towards financial freedom and life on the road.

A van-lifer documents a quiet solo trip, focusing on van maintenance, the mental benefits of solitude, and the challenges of living in a small space during hot weather. The experience highlights a shift from productivity to relaxation and the simple joys of a nomadic lifestyle.
Back out in the van for the night. I have just got to do a little quick stop off at Home
Bargains for dustpan and brush because this place needs cleaning.
I found a little car park. I was just driving along and I just found this little car park
and there's a canal down there. I don't know whether I will stay here. There's like a main
road there but it's good enough for now. I'm just going to park up here. There doesn't
seem to be any parking restrictions or anything on this car park so I could go for a little
nice canal walk but for now I'm going to hop in the back and clean the van.
Actually, before I clean, firstly I need to take these jeans off. It's not a sunny day
but it's an absolutely boiling day. I need some shorts on and I'm going to get some lunch.
Don't look. Oh my goodness, that's better. Shorts. Doesn't match my top. Never mind.
I bought some quiche. A quite fancy little quiche for my lunch. That was nice and easy.
Bit of ketchup. It's going to fall through the holes. This tub's got holes in.
I've done something this time. I was emptying my water before I left and sorting all that
out and to get to my water, I think I might want to change that actually. I think I want
to access it from the other side but to access it I have to push my bed in. I push my bed
in everything and I thought, hmm, I'm not going to put the other bit back. Then I can
clean the van and whatever and so I've just got one section with me today. Hopefully it's
OK and it's not too thin and I'd roll out or something. We'll see, I guess.
Right. Oh God. Everything's doubled. That's the only problem. I've got a double sheet
wall. This looks quite skinny. I think I might fall out. We'll see.
Do you want to see my electrics? They're all behind this panel here. Nice.
I'm thinking the why I've done this is because when I built, well I didn't build it, my friend
built it, but when I built this I imagined myself to be like pulling it backwards and
forwards the bed and like making it and stuff and I just don't and then when the bed's always
out I can never access these drawers so I lose like loads of storage so I'm thinking
if I can, if this is acceptable to me and I can just have it like this it'll be so much
better because then I'll be able to access these storages, these storages, these drawers.
I really like it like this, you know. I think I'm just going to hop in the front and do
a bit of cleaning in the cab area and tidy it. Oh my God. Much tidier. I didn't have
like proper stuff to wipe it all down with and stuff but it's better than it was. It's
cleaner and it's tidier. I'm not sure whether I want to move to one of these spots. I'm
thinking this might be an alright spot for the night. Do I want to go, the thing is I
like to reverse into a spot and then if I reverse into a spot, no I think I might stay
here. I like that I'm by the wall here. I ain't got a view but I just like it that no
one can park next to me so, yeah. I ain't really done much for the last few hours. I've
just been chilling out, watching a bit of telly, doing a bit of work on the food channel
and stuff and it's been nice. I was just thinking it's nice how depending on where you park
up it's like a completely different vibe of like what you do or whatever. Like the last
time I went out I was in New Brighton and I was facing like a little lake and the River
Mersey and the sea and stuff and so it was very much kind of like a people watching,
kind of looking outside and things kind of trip but here it's not that. Like I'm just
in a car park and there's no one walking past or anything and so it's more just like a cosy
in the van kind of vibe. Depending on like where you've chosen to park up just gives
you a completely different feel of like what you're going to do with your time and stuff.
I haven't gone for my canal walk. It's like, it's half past five. I don't know whether
I'm going to bother. I literally feel like I just want to hide in the van. Right, it's
about quarter to seven. I'm getting off my arse. I'm going for a little wander.
There's a little entrance here to the canal. Oh, I can't, I can't get anywhere. I'm going
to have to go up and over the bridge and get to the other side. I was just having a little
look on Park for Night and this place is on Park for Night. It does say it's like always
quite busy which I can imagine because it's like, it's a lot around like pubs and things
and shops and stuff and it's, yeah, a free car park so I can imagine it does get quite
busy. So I did well to get a spot there to be honest. There's quite a busy road here.
Pub there. I don't know if I fancy a kebab later. Like look, this is where the van is.
Just here. I think I need to clean my roof. Ooh, I wonder if they do takeaways. I could
go for a takeaway pizza tonight.
Fishy McFish face. How cute is that? Oh, I've never seen this before. This boat's filling
up with water. Of course they have to fill up just like vans do. I never saw how though.
Look at them solar panels.
Oh, I'm feeling a little bit, er, what am I feeling? Like a little bit guilty that I've
not done, I had loads of plans that I was going to do some work this evening but to
be honest I have just been enjoying, just been enjoying the peace and quiet of being
in the van and just, yeah, so I'm not going to make myself aware of it too much that I
haven't been productive or anything because I think it's important for these kind of just
non-times, not non-time but you know what I mean, of just not being productive with
working on the food channel and stuff and I've just been enjoying being in here. It's
been lovely. It's just the peace and the quiet and just being on my own and it's been really
nice. I might settle into bed soon and watch Scotlander playing tonight but that's at 11
and there's no way, no way I'm going to stay up for that. I'm not Scottish so it doesn't
really mean much to me anyway. I'm tired. I just want a decent night's sleep. I hope
this bed works for me. I think it might. I'm really liking having it just as a single to
be honest. I'm just going to nip to a spa across the road, find you some sweets or
something. Car park is emptying out. Don't know whether I'll be the only one in here
this evening. We shall see. I'm going to sit in a, I was going to say get into bed but
I'm not actually going to get into bed because it's far too hot under those covers. It's
absolutely roasting in the van. I've got my like front windows cracked but it's so hot.
I'm not going to put my window coverings in yet. What time is it? Nine-ish? It's about
nine-ish. Going to watch the second half of USA Australia. This is lovely. I've had
a really lovely time. I have to stop beating myself up about feeling guilty about not doing
work. My signal is pretty crap. Look at that. That's the quality of having to watch this
gaming but never mind. My iPad's broken by the way. I'm having such bad luck. I'm still
on my phone because my camera's broken. My iPad won't turn on. I've got a black screen
of death at the moment. I've tried all sorts. I think it just needs like restoring but I
can't do it. I'm pressing the buttons. I can't get it. I can't get it working. I spent a
good few hours on trying to do it but maybe it's time for a new iPad. It's not what I
need. New iPad, new camera. Oh my goodness. I think it's time to stick the window coverings
up. Oh, I found loads. When I was cleaning my van, I found loads of the suckers for the
window coverings. Just knocking around on the floor and stuff. So that's good. I think
I'll leave it like that for now. I might put that one in. Yeah, done that side one. Front
one. I'll leave that one open for a little bit. I might put it on. Might not. We'll see.
Good morning. I had such a lovely sleep. The bed is so much better like this. Like when
it was as a double. Because it was like two separate bits and I didn't cut it properly.
I was an idiot. It's a bit of my bad DIY skills to be honest. But when it was two, you always
like sagged into the middle where it like joined. And I found myself waking up because
of that through the night. But it was perfect like this. Lovely sleep. It's like 8 o'clock
now. I'd like to be asleep a bit longer to be honest. But I'm just not a good sleeper.
I just have to accept that about myself. I need to go to bed earlier than I'm going to
bed at the moment. But whatever. Just going to get my laptop I think and do a bit of work
in bed. It's just nice to not have to get up. Like on someone else's schedule. One of
the first things I do when I wake up is, well call me obsessive but I do, is I check my
analytics on YouTube and Facebook for the food channel. And I don't know if you saw
my other video where I said I don't like me on Facebook. They've started liking me on
Facebook. Yay! They've started watching my videos and things which is lovely. It's a
lesson in just keep going. I've now got like 250 odd followers over there which is nice.
It's nowhere near being monetised I don't think. But it's nice that it's starting.
First thing I like to do in the morning is to go through comments and reply to everyone.
There's always so many first thing in the morning but I like, it's a good thing that
there's loads of comments. It's important to me to reply to everyone so I'm going to
sit and do this. It probably takes me like 40 minutes or so at the moment.
Glad to see the world. See what kind of day we've got out there. Feels hot.
It looks lovely out there. I know it's lovely. I've just checked my Victron app. I'm pulling
in a lot of solar. It does look nice but do you know what? I'm not feeling, I'm feeling
like I don't want to interact with the world so I'm not going to. I'm going to just stay
in here. Going to make myself a little cup of soup. I'm loving my little cup of soup
lately. I haven't had one for like years and years and then unfortunately today I was like
hmm. These are nice for in the van.
I feel like a sweaty mess. An absolute sweaty mess. It's so hot in here. I should have,
I should have opened my door slightly but never mind. I think I'm going to start heading
back home. I've kind of been thinking like you've not done anything today. You've just
literally sat in the van but I think it's just what I wanted to do. I'm going to, I'm
going to shop. I don't know what shop. To do a video for the food channel and go back
to the chaos that's awaiting me at home. It's just nice being by myself. It's just nice
that there's no other noise if I'm honest. Well I mean obviously there's like bits of
car noise and things and people but. Off we go.
