Good friday morning, everybody. Thanks for checking in 6 46. Hang in there.
It's almost the weekend. It was a victory yesterday. We kept it below
100 and exactly where we should be for this time of year. In fact, we have
more nineties and one hundreds area wide with that extra cloud cover from
tropical storm bertha lurking nearby. And as promised, we were talking about
this yesterday. Good day, Austin, that we could have a wave of light rain
move in right around three in the morning. Sure enough, that's what
happened now. Most of the rain is moving on out. We have the lingering
clouds and high humidity. Lots of cloud cover up at Santa Rita Ranch,
and that's where we have a few sprinkles here and there, but no major
impacts for the morning commute. And here's what's left of all that light
rain starting to move more to the north and west of Austin from Lake Travis up
to Leander Liberty Hill. And then the rain fading quickly out there in
Gillespie County. Most of the measurable rain like we thought happened
from I-35 eastward with under a quarter of an inch under a tenth of an inch
officially in Austin. And there's that wave of rain from the hill country all
the way down toward the border. It didn't make it to tropical depression
status around called station in between here in Houston, and that was the last
advisory last evening. And now we're just dealing with a lingering wave of
lower pressure, provide enough lift to generate that light rain, mainly
impacting us here in the next hour or two. And then that's it. You can put
away the umbrella for the rest of the month. Rain chances dropping quite a
bit. We're hanging out in the mid upper seventies cooler than this time
yesterday. Remember, we were in the eighties today. We're heading for the
mid upper nineties with feels like numbers right around 100 103. That's
just below heat advisory criteria from late morning to late afternoon. We're
right on the money yesterday of that average of 98. The records are safe
sunset at 8 30 and the nineties will outweigh the one hundred's, at least on
the thermometer. But with all that lingering tropical moisture, we will
have feels like temperatures in triple digit territory. We have a nice breeze
to look forward to providing some minor heat relief. If you stay in the shade,
have the sunglasses, sunscreen, bottles of water ready to go. Even though we're
not under a heat advisory, don't take the heat humidity combo lightly and you
may need some extra hair product with some gusty winds in the forecast. The
light rain we have out there right now, it's very isolated. We'll be out of
here in the next hour and then dry it out and the sun breaks out this
afternoon and we'll call for a cloud sun mix again on Saturday. That
shouldn't do the trick to keep us away from triple digit territory on this
getaway Friday. Head of the West Coast looks good. Head of the East Coast for
the most part looks okay except around the Carolinas and then back toward the
Midwest. That's gonna be the storm zone today. Slight risk for severe weather
all the way up across sections of Minnesota and North Dakota. We have a
rainy start around Kansas City heading for ST Louis and then scattered
showers possible around the Carolinas. It's gonna be really tough to get more
rain in here for the rest of the month because of this, the dome of stability
that usually hangs out in the summertime right here in Texas will
move on in and it will strengthen over time as it pushes down on us. The
clouds have no chance to build up into rainmaker. So after the sprinkles go
away this morning, that's all she wrote. And we're living in that donut
hole with most of the rain and storms going around us. Partly sunny today,
tomorrow, mostly sunny Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. And that's when we'll
crank up the heat a little more with highs right around 100 Sunday, Monday
and Tuesday and then looking way down the road for the first week of August.
You guessed it. It's gonna remain hotter than average in the wake of
Bertha. No signs of new tropical development from the gulf all the way
out across the Atlantic. We have a flare up of storms of the Caribbean or way
out in the Atlantic. But the hurricane center says there's just too much
windshear out there for any development out of those tropical waves. Back here
at home, the sprinkles move on out and then the cloud cover will break apart.
But we have enough cloud cover this morning to slow down the warm up and
keep her highs in the mid upper nineties. Always looking for small
victories this time of year. And then tonight, no rain, clear skies in the
evening, turning cloudy tomorrow morning with lows in the seventies. We
got a hot but rain free weekend for his Saturday and Sunday, even hotter
next week as that heat dome strengthens. We're gonna start up another triple
digit streak starting next Tuesday.
