Welcome to the return of the Brookhart Project! We will be posting weekly vlogs starting NOW. In today's video we celebrate our 11 year anniversary and the last day of summer with a stay at Pop Century! After Magic Kingdom haircuts, we are ready for the new school year. Join us as we figure out what our new routine looks like and start planning our fall trip to the Northeast!
Hi! We are Peter, Sarah, James, Teddy, Charlie, and George and we live in Orlando, Florida. Our cute little puppy’s name is Eve. Together we strive to find the extraordinary in ordinary life.
A family documents their transition into the school year, blending a short Disney staycation with the realities of daily parenting. The vlog captures moments of \"vacation magic,\" the chaos of children's artwork, and the excitement of planning upcoming marathons and a trip to New York City.
So we were thinking because it's mommy and daddy's anniversary,
the last day of summer, do you want to stay in a Mickey room tonight?
Hooray! That's where we're going. I don't know if there's a more truer
Peter Brookhart form than resort coffee in a Mickey room.
Yep, get four of four. Go high, go high, go high. Almost, keep going, you're almost out of time.
You already got that one, go high. Yay! Came to check out the Cool Kids Summer Good Night
festivities. We got here just in time because it is pouring now. So we'll just have to wait
and hang out and see if a special visitor comes. I think it's Minnie Mouse, but double win because
we might as well wait for the storm to pass. We were wrong, it was not Minnie, it was the main
man, the big cheese, Mickey Mouse in his cute pajamas. All right, it's definitely raining,
but it's softer. But definitely going to get wet going back, but the boys should be good.
There is a bit of rejuvenation in the heart as locals when you do a staycation, even like a
short one, like a one-nighter like this. You just feel that like vacation magic, the way the cast
members are interacting with you, the way you're feeling and vibing, the sounds and smells. Even
for a short one like this, we're here for one night and we're leaving early to go get haircuts
at Magic Kingdom. So we're going to pack up the room basically tonight, maybe very early tomorrow
and hop on a bus. But by the time we're done at Magic Kingdom, we'll be checked out. So
we literally have our room for hours, but it still just reminds you what a Disney vacation magic
feels like. It's a snail going towards me. It is going towards you, yeah. Teddy and I went
on a snail and worm hunt. I'm scared of snails. My snails think they're going to attack me.
No, snails are nice. Are snails friendly? They're very friendly. Oh yeah.
Are crocodiles dangerous? No. Well, they can be dangerous, but they're friendly.
It's kind of going fast if you ask me. Yeah, but I think it's slow.
Oh, I'm so glad we found it. We were almost about to give up. Oh, I see a big,
two big worms over there. Look how fast this worm is going.
Okay, this is our first time seeing the pumpkin decorations. The Halloween decor is up.
We are, I already see some strollers at the barbershop. We are not utilizing our resort
extra magic hours. Yeah, it's the scarecrows, the pumpkins. We are gonna try to get some walk-in
school year haircuts. So when was the last time we were in the park this early?
Their last haircut. Their last haircut, yeah. Best time of year here. Yes. Halloween.
And haircuts here are the most affordable, even in our area, but truly the first haircut experience.
And I think that that would end soon. I don't know if that's a guarantee. Yeah,
but sometimes there's a whole shebang. Yeah, I just feel like it's a hidden gem. Hang on tight.
Sometimes simple mornings are the best kind of mornings. We literally just came for a haircut,
LaFleur, TTC. We're having a little snack and we're gonna head, head back to the bus to go
back to Pop Century to get our car and go home. But that was the point. Today was to get haircuts
and the boys got haircuts.
It's this. Yeah. First day of school, Jeff.
We have two kids in school now. It's a Monday. So we got Jeff's bagel.
Try it. Eat it. Good morning from the car. Today is one of those days where I'm gonna pretend
like I live in a city, in a walkable city. We are going to be gone the entire day. We just did
school drop-off, work drop-off for Peter. We still only have one car and we're gonna see if we can
make that work before jumping to buy another car with Peter back in the office four days a week.
I have started a gym that has child watch. So I have Charlie and Georgie with me. Also, this is my
first day doing this. So don't expect tips and tricks quite yet. All I'll say is I packed a lot
of snacks and that's typically my first piece of advice for any caregiver on the go. We are at
our second stop of the day, Animal Kingdom. I'm embracing umbrella for shade and we have about
two hours here. We're just gonna bop from air conditioning to air conditioning. I think that is
our plan. Did you guys have a good day at school? Yeah. Mom, I pulled. I ripped a paper. That's okay.
Jamesy, did you get to be line leader yet? No. Then I fixed it, Mom. Biscuits.
Gotta find a treasure. So today is a little different because Peter, I almost called him
Jake, had a doctor's appointment. So we needed a little bit of extra time to get in between.
It's already storming and it's dinner time. So we usually do Friday, Friday,
but we're doing it on Wednesday today. Did you know that the entire Walt Disney World
Resort is over 40 square miles? Yeah, we did. That's about the same size as the city of San
Francisco and Dublin, the island of Manhattan. We make some mozzesco and little crabs.
We're gonna get so many. Stop five of the day.
Is there a crab in the beach? Are we going down to the
airbnb?
Wow, nice crab. Did you take that little piece? Did you take that little piece?
Do you think Georgie took it? Yeah.
Yeah? You didn't? I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry I ever accused you.
So today looks much different than yesterday. We're recouping from our day out.
Um, but I think that's the biggest thing I've learned during parenthood is that I don't like to feel like the days roll into each other.
And so this little bit of variety, um, that I've been, you know, planning out since we knew Peter was going to be back in the office.
Back to school and everything. Um, this is what I like. I like the variety.
And so as much as yesterday, I love being out. Um, today we're watching movies.
Charlie's doing puzzles. The baby is on his schedule, his routine.
So, um, we've always sort of been more go with the flow people with more kids.
We've brought more routine for peace. Um, so it is still nice to see that we can manage both.
Um, we've still been go, go, go with having kids, um, but just not as active.
Obviously more people, more needs, more, just more, um, more fun, more joy.
But it is nice to see that Georgie being the newest and like the most used to routine can still hang.
Um, so that's today for us. We'll just be home.
There's some art. This isn't, this isn't cute. Like it's not cute. Like it's, oh, it's in our kitchen and our fridge.
It, it's everywhere and it is cute, but it's everywhere. Bookshelves, over picture frames, tape to the wall.
Cause these are flying Pokemon. Obviously more Pokemon also taped to the wall.
Different kinds of tape, appropriate tape, inappropriate tape, appropriate tape on the glass.
That looks like, Hey Peter, did you just put down a couple of kids and look crazy a little bit?
A gondola, Skylander maybe? High up Pokemon on the door.
Monsters and creatures next to the couch. A cat, a kidney, a selection of monsters.
And above our wedding stuff, obviously.
All right, I'll give him this one. This one's more appropriate. This is in the play area.
Pokemon stuff. I'm gonna be honest. I think I did the outline of that Gyarados. The boys colored it in.
I think this is Pokemon. This is definitely Pokemon. That is definitely some kind of crazy Pokeball.
And this is a witch hat. Oh, monsters. By the pumpkins.
At some point we're gonna sit down and do a talking head or something about what's been going on.
But it's Thursday night. Thursday nights are what Shane and I call no responsibility.
But in reality they're like minimal responsibility cause I gotta do the dishes.
Gotta get the kids lunch vessels ready for school tomorrow.
So we're gonna clean and get those ready in the morning.
Gotta put markers away because gotta cap them.
And obviously have to have some popcorn as a little snack.
Because we bought kettle popcorn for movie night and the whole family's not a fan.
So this is what I like to snack on sometimes.
And Sarah is with the bigger two boys putting them to sleep right now.
So I'm gonna snack on some popcorn, start some dishes.
And it's no responsibility Thursday. And I think no responsibility Thursday.
Trick is gonna be responsible because we're gonna plan some fall trips.
Down to sleep as one baby was waking up today.
So we're indoctrinating with Casey Neistat New York.
So we're indoctrinating with Casey Neistat New York City Marathon running videos.
I think we're at that point where the flip, the switch, that's the word.
The switch has flipped in Peter's brain.
And it's like, it's that time of the year.
It is marathon time.
And not only that, we're doing something crazy this year.
We do things crazy often, as you all know.
But this year, we're doing Chicago.
Three weeks later, New York.
Whatever that is like seven weeks later, dopey.
Crazy fundraising, crazy training, crazy miles.
I'm here for it.
The family's here for it.
But we gotta lock in.
Training's gotta lock in.
Eating's gotta lock in.
There's the switch. Can you guys see it?
It kinda flipped just now.
To be a little kid just dipping pretzels in cream cheese.
Thumbs up?
That's the life when your brothers, your big brothers are at school.
You just get all the snacks and island time to yourself.
Look at this leisurely pace you can enjoy life at.
Daddy.
Yes, James? Yes, James?
You saw it raining?
Mama went to get the older boys from school.
Picked up a little Friday treat.
You had a great day?
I had a good day. I did work from home. Thank you, James.
Did you have a good day?
It's the Amazon.
James.
We planned a vacation for your birthday in the big city.
The big city.
The big city called New York City.
Let me see.
Baby George, taking a peek.
You wanna see the Excel file we have?
Yes, where is it?
Let me get it.
I'm gonna try to slowly start incepting the children to get excited for New York City
because we are gonna be there for Halloween.
The marathon is actually on James' birthday.
So this is a walking YouTube video of New York City in October.
Oh, good sharing.
Okay, there's our first vlog back.
We are gonna get a groove.
I'm inspired. I'm excited.
I love editing.
Love capturing our life.
So, this feels good.
We never said it's good to be home.
So I will end with that.
And also thanks for being here.
Welcome back to the vlog.
It is good to be home.
We know what our goals are.
We know what we hope to accomplish.
And believe me, it's the most exciting and challenging assignment we've ever tackled
at Walt Disney Productions.
