Is it 2018? Feels like it! This week we sing our Food & Wine Festival song, enjoy Magic Kingdom with friends, and return to Disney Springs for more LEGO store action. In between we chat about changing our routine... just three weeks into the school year. Sarah also shares a fall clothing haul from Once Upon a Child! Can you believe we're finally going to New York City?
Hi! We are Peter, Sarah, James, Teddy, Charlie, and George and we live in Orlando, Florida. Our cute little puppy’s name is Eve. Together we strive to find the extraordinary in ordinary life.
The Brookharts share a look into their busy family life, balancing marathon preparation for Chicago and NYC with parenting and professional changes. The vlog highlights their Disney trips, shifts in weekend routines to better support their school-aged children, and the narrator's transition to a more demanding return-to-office work schedule.
Good morning, we're the Brookharts.
We weekly vlogs.
If you enjoy this video, make sure you come back every week.
I think I did the same thing last week where I started either right before, during or after
my long run.
I got up at 3 o'clock in the morning to do an 18 mile long run and it went well.
But I think there's something very important behind this door that was supposed to arrive
yesterday that would have helped me out on this run.
And um, hi, did I wake you from your slumber?
Let's see, I don't know if it's here or in like our mailbox.
So it was here, so I got from the feed a box of Morton's caffeinated gels, a box of Morton's
non-caffeinated gels, and then a variety of Morton's drinks, both caffeinated and non-caffeinated.
And I love the packaging that the feed and Morton's comes with.
Want me to open it and show you?
Look at the drinks.
I'm like scared.
I'm going to go into detail, I don't think right now, but I've got some history on these
caffeinated drinks that I'm a little nervous for, but um, we're trying to do things this
fall.
Charlie wants me to open this to show him.
Wow.
There's that one.
I think I got 12 of each.
And so I got enough for the Chicago Marathon and I got enough for the New York City Marathon.
I'll worry about Dopey later.
This is stuff for Daddy's runs.
He eats them during the runs.
The way the box orders go, you get like a certain discount if you order so many.
Yeah, that's for doing Daddy runs.
And so I actually planned it so that I'd have enough for the two marathons and a couple
of long run practices just to like try to really be proper and get my stomach used to
the Mortons.
The Mortons, I get them because they're like hydrogel based.
They're soft on my stomach.
They're easy on my stomach already.
But I figured if I can be proper and responsible and do like two long runs prior to Chicago
with some Mortons just to like get the stomach and the cadence familiar again, like, hey,
this isn't just a once a year thing.
I did that.
So I would have loved to have that today.
But my training block's kind of different this time around where I've got a few 18
to 20 mile runs.
I'm sure a lot of people are like going to cringe when they hear that.
I've never done more than one 20 mile run in a training block.
You know what?
Next weekend I'll have it now for that long run.
Hippo.
Having some serious hippo lovers in our house.
Do you see this?
It is a night light.
And I have not seen, oh, oh, Georgie's getting the camera.
I have not seen this set either.
So we're here at Magic Kingdom tonight.
It's a bit rainy.
So we're here with some friends, Kristen and John and Chelsea, baby Eleanor.
My eyes have been sensitive today so I'm skipping out on the carousel.
But Charlie read a book the other night that had the carousel in it and he's been talking
about it like for two days straight.
So we're getting Charlie on the carousel and me and Georgie are just going to hang
out while everyone else rides.
The last thing I need is migraine.
And we're listening to my body, avoiding the carousel, no spinning carousel for me.
What is in here?
Wow.
That is cute.
So many cutesy things.
Look at that little dress.
These are what I really want to get.
Oh my gosh.
Perfect.
Do you see anything?
No, I can't see anything.
She's perfect.
We've had some comments that Eve has not been in the vlog.
Here she is.
She's with me in the garage.
It is Sunday.
It took us three weeks of school to realize that our weekend routine just wasn't working anymore.
And we probably had done that for months, if not over a year.
Like going out Friday night, Saturday us being home, Sunday we'd go out in the morning and
then have like a chilled day at home.
That's what we've been doing.
Having two school-aged kids now, we have realized that Friday night they've just been toast.
The thing that comes to my mind is like, you're trying to make fetch happen.
And that was like trying to go out on Friday night.
It just like was not, it wasn't fun for everybody.
Everyone was tired.
And so this weekend was the first weekend that we've done, tried something new out.
And I think it worked out great.
And that was, we did Friday, which we do McDonald's on Friday to have fries.
Sometimes it's not McDonald's.
Sometimes it's we just make fries at home.
And we've been doing movie night on Saturday.
So we did movie night Friday, which was great.
We watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and they were just tickled by it.
And I like got candy.
We do popcorn, all of that.
It was nice.
And then yesterday Peter and I both got like our bigger workouts in for the week.
And then we went out in the evening.
And so we had all day to kind of like recover from the week.
And then we were able to go out and stay out late and know that today we could recover.
So now we're going to try to have our at home day be Sunday.
We're still going to do, we've always done pasta on Sunday nights.
It's kind of like my, like growing up, like we did pasta.
We did like red sauce and like had our grandmas and aunts and uncles over on Sunday.
I am not always like making sauce.
Sometimes it's just butter noodles.
Sometimes it's whatever pasta.
Like tonight I'm making Turkish pasta.
But anyways, we've switched up this weekend and I think we like it.
So we'll see if it keeps that way.
A lot of our toys live in our garage.
And we are kind of in this place right now where I'm like, we need to do a big donate.
We need to do a big throw away.
Anything that's missing pieces.
Anyways, I'm going to finish up in here.
Peter's decluttering out there.
We just did like our art corner.
And kind of just get like situated for like fall, the new season.
We have decorated.
We do have our Halloween stuff out.
I feel like we can kind of like really settle in to the cozy season.
Everything have a new place.
And just like, I feel like we made it through the beginning of the school year.
And now we can kind of like keep it up.
Get our like systems in place.
And just feel good about it.
Can I have a pumpkin?
And we have Teddy.
Teddy, you look good in this sweater.
Where are you going to wear this sweater?
Chicago.
Oh, good answer.
Chicago.
It's New York City.
Happy Monday.
It is mine and Jamesy's turn for a date this week.
And after he heard about Peter and Teddy's date last week, he was like,
I got to go to Disney Springs.
We got to go to the Lego store.
So we're back at Disney Springs this week.
We are prepared for rain.
We're also currently counting every Lego bag that we see.
Jamesy, how many have we seen so far?
We've seen like seven.
Jamesy, come here.
We actually have a star chart working towards some Minecraft Legos right now.
So we are making our own builds.
We got a Charmander.
I'm showing the vlog what you made.
We got a Pikachu.
We got a Gengar.
Wait, which one?
Is this Gengar or Ghastly?
Haunter.
And a Bulbasaur in there.
So you can fill this box of all of the Legos that you want from this wall for $9.99.
Georgie almost swiped my banana bread.
I'm trying to have like a September 1st morning with banana bread.
And then I made a pumpkin apple latte.
So we got grabby hands.
He puts his fire on everybody.
Yeah.
And we gotta do this puzzle.
And we have a naughty pup.
So we ventured today to Once Upon a Child to sell some clothes.
And buy some cold weather clothes for our trip.
Okay, Once Upon a Child haul.
James, this is what I got for you.
You like? That's for Jamesy. Do you like it?
I want my Pokemon too.
When Jamesy's too big for it, then it'll be yours.
Nice sweater.
That's great.
That is great. James, another sweater look.
You love it a little bit?
Okay, we got this little black flannel.
Look, James.
Cute.
Gray sweater.
Do you like this?
You love it a little bit?
This is the last one.
There's a jumping child over there.
I don't know. Some stuff got cut off.
But hopefully this will be most of them.
Jammies for you.
So I got them each like a skeleton shirt.
To maybe wear to Fort Wilderness.
We like to go to Fort Wilderness once a season.
So this is Teddy's skelly.
A Charlie's skeleton with all the candy in the tummy.
Jamesy's...
You did a wonderful job.
We got a puzzle at one point in time too.
You being so kind to your brother, Jamesy.
Jamesy's skeleton shirt.
And then I know that Georgie has a hand-me-down one.
Sure.
Oh yeah?
I bet so.
Okay, and then a little sweater...
Sweatshirt from Teddy.
The little boys have more because they have the hand-me-downs.
From other cousins and from James.
But James got the most because he's the oldest.
He's like about the same size as Luca now.
And we got a lot of pants.
So a little catch up on the little ones.
Let's see you.
Teddy, I got you this coat.
That looks nice, right?
Teddy, this is for you too.
It looks like a teddy bear.
You're going to be like a little scrumptious little teddy bear.
Do you want to put it on?
And that's our home.
Everybody loves me.
It's been a minute since we said that.
And it feels good.
Who do you see?
Let's eat.
Do you want to eat?
Whoa.
Are you going to do the hide and squeak?
Yes.
It says Beverly Food and Wine.
Is it 2018?
R.I.P. the old Club Kool.
We found our first Remy.
Spoiler alert if you're doing the hide and squeak.
That's what we're going to find.
Did you get a sticker?
You found a Remy?
Corned beef, favorite of the festival always.
Are you okay?
Okay, I think I'm going to make this backdrop my typical Friday selfie spot.
I have a busy Friday.
It's already started.
Busy Friday for work.
I had a busy week.
Look at these eyes.
We're trying to figure out what's going on with us.
Charlie woke up.
And Charlie is typically a great sleeper overnight.
It's just like a unique situation or a rarity when Charlie wakes up in the middle of the night.
Woke up at like 3 or 4.
And I went in to lay with him.
But it was one of those things where I'd get him back to sleep and I couldn't transfer him.
But I didn't stay with him all night.
Because he just like needed my presence.
And we woke up both with like these puffy pink eye like things.
And I haven't looked recently but I feel like I look worse than this morning.
That's not what I pulled the camera out to talk about.
But I don't even realize I look like that.
Let me go figure out my life and hop back into work.
Me and Teddy had a little appointment.
So we stopped at Stacio's.
It's in Milk District.
So tasty.
We've come here before for our holiday supplies and ingredients.
And I got a little breakfast.
What's this called?
Prosciutto cream cheese on an English muffin.
Is that good? Thumbs up or thumbs down?
Thumbs up.
This is Charlie's like new favorite.
I want to see.
You want to see?
Georgie seems to be liking it too.
I think we've talked about this a little bit recently.
That I have recently been part of a return to office policy.
So I used to be two days in the office, three days at home.
Now we're four days in the office, one day at home.
It was like the third or fourth week.
Sure, I could have told you that this was going to happen.
But you really do appreciate that Friday.
That remote.
The not having to get up and get yourself prim and proper and ready.
And pack lunch and get your water bottle and your coffee ready.
And commute.
There's banter in between meetings at the office that is just part of life.
And I tell people I work this all the time.
I love you guys. I love my kids more.
And I want that banter time.
Or in between meeting time.
Where there's not enough to get locked in to do the next thing.
Or report or analysis.
You've got like 10 or 15 minutes until the next meeting.
Because the last one ended early.
That turns into hallway chatter.
I'm a people person.
I'm a talker.
You all know that.
But I want to talk to Charlie.
I want to talk to Georgie.
In between those times.
And so I'm enjoying that extra on these Fridays.
To have those in between calls.
While I'm running a query.
And it's like holding up my machine.
Where I can't do work because my process is going.
I want to throw my kid in the air.
I want to flip a load of laundry like I've done twice today.
Just an appreciation moment for those Fridays and those remote times.
I promise I haven't been crying.
It's what it looks like.
But I haven't.
I am a crier.
That's for sure.
But not today.
It's a good Friday.
It's not good Friday.
It is a good Friday.
The Pope's from Chicago.
You can tell where my caffeine intake is today.
Okay.
Teddy is back at school.
I got my workout in.
It is Friday.
I'm like feeling it.
I've got a handful of errands to run.
I'm going to play some loud music.
Basically it's going to take up the rest of the afternoon.
Before you know it, we'll be doing school pickup, French fry Friday.
All that good stuff that fills up our cup.
I'm looking forward to just being home tonight.
Can you say happy Friday?
Happy Friday.
4.30 in the morning.
Very early.
Still not as early as I wanted to get up, but it's early.
Since it's hours away from the sun coming up,
I'll go ahead and say what we were supposed to say yesterday.
It's good to be home.
We know what our goals are.
We know what we hope to accomplish.
And believe me, it's the most exciting and challenging assignment
we've ever tackled at Walt Disney Productions.
