For the people of Pond Inlet, Friday evening brought a torrent of rain.
Over 40 millimeters crashing down. Saturday brought even more, and a flood.
Jasper Singaree is the director of Public Works. He says the torrent swamped the streets.
We had to intervene and close a very busy road by the Hamlet office
before it got washed away by the stream.
And it wasn't just the roadways drenched.
Trails leading to campsites and a bridge to a lake were flooded too,
which Katerina Lucy Kublu, a resident of Pond Inlet,
says led to a person getting stuck and in need of help.
There was someone there. The person that was stranded had to be picked up by boat.
Morgan Schall is an operational meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada.
Morgan says some rainfall records for the area were broken,
possibly caused by an El Nino year.
Strong El Nino year, so that could, you know,
make things a little bit more unpredictable coming for the coming year and season.
Singaree says they will continue working on the roads and trails that need to be fixed.
