The Russian occupiers have only two submarines left – carriers of sea-based Kalibr missiles, which could likely be used to carry out such launches.

Vladislav Seleznev, a military expert and former press secretary for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stated this on Radio NV in response to a question about our strikes on enemy ships capable of launching Kalibr missiles at Ukraine.

"In fact, the Russians only have two submarines left – carriers of sea-launched Kalibr missiles, which could likely be used for such launches. All other warships capable of this have been disabled by the Ukrainian Defense Forces," he emphasized. At the same time, Seleznev added, the enemy could also use ships from the Caspian Flotilla in the Caspian Sea, which are also equipped to carry out such attacks.

"But the distance there is much greater. And the Ukrainian Defense Forces are working to destroy the infrastructure there, and, in particular, to destroy the Caspian Flotilla's warships involved in these processes," the expert said.

He added that, as part of preventive actions, we are destroying launch sites, in particular Russian ships from the Russian Black Sea Fleet, and land-based launchers, in particular those used by the enemy to launch Iskander-M ballistic missiles, as well as other weapons that the Russians often use to carry out missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian territory.

As reported, following the Ukrainian Defense Forces' strike on the naval base in Novorossiysk, satellite and reconnaissance images emerged revealing further damage to Russian ships . One of these could be the Project 21631 Buyan-M small missile ship. Ships of this project carry Kalibr and Onyx cruise missiles. The Ukrainian Navy subsequently stated that, according to satellite imagery, the long Neptune had struck the frigate Admiral Essen. Specifically, damage to the upper superstructure was confirmed. According to the Navy, the damage prevents the ship from performing combat missions, and the missile carrier requires lengthy and expensive repairs. Naval officers emphasize that the destruction of the frigate confirms that there are no longer any safe places for Russian warships in the Black Sea. Earlier, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine officially confirmed the defeat of three ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet : the small sea minesweeper Zheleznyakov, the frigate Admiral Essen, and the Project 11711 large landing ship Pyotr Morgunov.

The Ukrainian Navy previously reported that the Admiral Essen was one of the main targets of the operation and was hit by a Neptune missile.

Later, the Main Intelligence Directorate clarified that after the hit, a fire broke out on the frigate’s superstructure. The Neptune is a Ukrainian anti-ship cruise missile developed by the Kyiv-based Luch Design Bureau. The basic version, the R-360, is designed to destroy surface targets but can also be used against land-based targets.
