Before the Iranian attack on a US airbase in Saudi Arabia in March of this year, Russian satellites passed over the facility in succession, with data likely provided to Tehran. CNN reports this, citing sources. The report states that 14 Russian satellites flew over Prince Sultan Air Base approximately two days before the Iranian strike on March 27. Journalists examined orbital data and found that Russian spacecraft consistently passed over the area of the American facility. Among them was the Cosmos-2573 satellite, capable of obtaining detailed images using radar technology. Depending on the capabilities of specific devices, this could involve more than just visual reconnaissance. CNN points to the possibility of collecting radar data, observing objects, and obtaining information about activity within military infrastructure. It was the sequence of flybys of different satellites that attracted the attention of American sources: it potentially made it possible to obtain a wider array of intelligence information about the object. Twelve American service members were wounded in that attack. An American E-3 Sentry AWACS airborne early warning and control aircraft was also destroyed. Such an aircraft costs hundreds of millions of dollars.
Recall, media outlets in March had already written about Iran being supplied with Russian intelligence for strikes against American military targets in the Middle East, but the White House insisted that Moscow's aid to Tehran had no impact on the US military operation. US Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff said he had appealed to Russian leaders to urge them not to share such data with the Islamic Republic. "I said this emphatically ," the special representative said in a conversation with reporters that took place on board the presidential plane Air Force One on the night of March 8. US President Donald Trump himself, commenting on reports of possible Russian support for Iran, stated that he does not have confirmed evidence of such cooperation. At the same time, he expressed doubt about the effectiveness of possible assistance. "Even if they are passing on information, it is not helping them ," the American leader said. A similar position was voiced by US Permanent Representative to the UN Mike Waltz in an interview with NBC News . Even if Russia does provide Iran with some information, he said, it has no significant impact on the situation. "The American army is destroying the Iranian Air Force, Air Defense, Navy, Ground Forces, as well as the command and control system ," the diplomat added. Meanwhile, Russia's ambassador to the UK, Andrei Kelin, said in an interview with Sky News that Moscow does not take a neutral position in the conflict between the US, Israel and Iran. According to him, Russia sympathizes with Tehran.
