Russian army's failed plan in Donbas: "The northern claw was effectively defeated and destroyed"

Brigadier General Andriy Biletsky, commander of the Third Army Corps, announced the virtual defeat and destruction of the "northern pincer" of Russian forces in the Donetsk sector. Now it is essential to prevent the restoration of Russia's offensive potential. Biletsky made this statement on television.

Biletsky explained that Russian troops planned to encircle the Ukrainian fortress cities in Donbas from two directions. From the south, the offensive was to proceed through Dobropillia, and from the north, through the salient toward Svyatogorsk and further to Barvinkove, where "the two pincers of the Russian army were to close . " According to Biletsky, the penetration of Russian forces in the Dobropillya area was stopped last year. The situation there remains difficult but manageable, and "the northern pincer has been effectively routed and destroyed ." Now, the commander noted, it is critically important to "paralyze logistics, paralyze the rear, and prevent the Russians from resuming this offensive." If Russia fails to restore its offensive potential, it will be forced to attack the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk and Druzhkovka-Konstantinovsk agglomerations directly. "Storming these cities head-on is significantly more painful and costly for them than trying to encircle them and essentially take them without a fight ," Biletsky said.

Earlier, Andriy Biletsky spoke for the first time about the Third Corps' offensive operation "Vivaldi" in the northern Donetsk region. According to him, Ukrainian units cleared several settlements of occupiers and liberated Seredne. According to Biletsky, during the operation, Ukrainian troops cleared 75 square kilometers of territory and de-occupied another 10 square kilometers. These include Novoselivka, Aleksandrivka, Yarovaya, the outskirts of Korovy Yar, and Sredny. The Ukrainian side also reports significant losses among Russian troops. The enemy lost approximately 1,500 troops, over 12,000 drones, as well as hundreds of armored vehicles, artillery systems, and automobiles. At the same time, unmanned aerial vehicle units launched strikes against Russian logistics. As a result of the attacks, the Russian army shifted fuel and lubricant supplies outside of Ukraine, to the Voronezh region. Biletsky stated that pipelines and warehouses were disabled. He added that units of the 60th and 125th Brigades, the 3rd Assault Brigade, the 3rd Separate Reconnaissance Battalion and the 25th Separate Tank Battalion, as well as forces of the Special Operations Forces, the Main Intelligence Directorate and the State Border Service are participating in the operation. Biletsky noted that open sources are already discussing the possible goal of the offensive—reaching the Black Stallion River. However, the general urged caution against jumping to conclusions, emphasizing that the current phase of the operation is only the first of four.
