The Warsaw Uprising (August–October 1944) was a large-scale armed resistance by the Polish Home Army against German occupation. It must not be confused with the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943, which was led by Jewish fighters inside the ghetto. The 1944 uprising involved the wider city and aimed to liberate Warsaw before Soviet forces arrived. It ultimately ended in defeat and the systematic destruction of Warsaw by German forces.
