Operators from the 3rd Special Operations Forces Regiment captured an occupying force scout on the border with Russia. According to the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine , this occurred during special operations in one of the operational areas on the border with Russia.
"A special forces group from the 3rd Special Operations Forces Regiment set up an ambush, during which they captured a Russian serviceman who was using a drone to plot a route for the passage and concentration of Russian forces," the statement said.
The prisoner turned out to be a scout from the 20th Separate Reconnaissance Battalion of Russia. His radio was confiscated and he was interrogated. "He indicated the location of enemy positions, the routes of movement of other enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups, and their future plans in the area," the Special Operations Forces noted.
As reported, a 28-year-old junior lieutenant in the occupying army previously surrendered to the Spartan Brigade of the Ukrainian National Guard. He does not want to return to Russia through the prisoner exchange mechanism. Instead, he seeks to join the Russian Volunteer Corps of the Main Intelligence Directorate. Ivan, who is originally from the Kemerovo region, said he signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense in 2024, citing arguments with his parents. In the army, he commanded a platoon. His training lasted only two weeks. He didn't even reach his post because he was wounded. He was later awarded the Medal "For Courage" for this.
After recovering, he fled the army and went into hiding until 2026. In March, according to the Russian, he was detained by police and sent back to the war against Ukraine. This time, he met newly arrived infantrymen, instructed them, and sent them to their positions. According to his observations, almost none of them had proper military training. "The longest military training they had was three days. Those I met told me they were sent on missions after just one day at the training ground. They're unprepared; they don't know how to use radios or maps," the prisoner said.
The officer cites a chronic shortage of personnel as the main reason. New recruits are thrown into battle without any proper training. According to him, occupiers often die while filming staged reports, attempting to unfurl Russian flags in positions not yet under their control. Furthermore, as Ivan notes, most of these stormtroopers end up at the front because of deception—they are recruited with promises of rear-echelon positions that don't involve combat.
