A French Mirage 2000-5F fighter jet has shot down a Russian S8000 "Banderol" small-sized cruise missile using its aircraft cannon for the first time in history, French Aid to Europe reported on social media .
It is indicated that France transferred aircraft of this type to Ukraine from the warehouses of its own Aerospace Forces in 2025.
"Military" noted that the aircraft's primary armament is two 30mm DEFA 554 automatic aircraft cannons integrated into the fuselage. The fighter carries 125 rounds of ammunition per cannon, and its rate of fire reaches 1,800 rounds per minute.
The publication added that the projectiles are fired from high-explosive fragmentation and armor-piercing incendiary ammunition of 30x113 mm caliber, with an initial velocity of approximately 815 m/s.
The article notes that the S8000 "Banderol" was developed by the Russian company Kronshtadt. Its top speed is 620–650 km/h, and its cruising speed is 520–560 km/h.
The missile uses a Chinese-made Swiwin turbojet engine weighing 8.5 kg to power its flight. At a maximum speed of 65,000 rpm, the cruise missile generates up to 81.6 kgf of thrust. With these engine characteristics, the missile's stated range reaches 500 km.
The S8000 "Banderol" is equipped with a high-explosive fragmentation warhead of the OFBCh-150 type with a total weight of 114.3 kg, of which 49.5 kg is explosive.
Media previously reported that the French Ministry of the Armed Forces confirmed that Ukraine would receive new MICA air-to-air missiles and 30mm ammunition for Mirage 2000 fighter jets. The MICA multirole guided missile was developed by MBDA to engage air targets both in close combat and beyond visual range. Mirage 2000 fighter jets are equipped with two integrated 30mm DEFA 554 automatic revolver cannons. They fire 30mm projectiles of the 30×113mm standard with a selective rate of fire of 1,200 or 1,800 rounds per minute.
Media also reported that, according to experts, the transfer of six Mirage 2000 fighter jets from France has been officially confirmed. As of the beginning of the year, three aircraft had been delivered, one of which was lost, meaning Ukraine will have a total of five. Meanwhile, France is working to purchase the aircraft from Greece for Ukraine. Initially, the plan was for Greece to transfer all 43 Mirage fighters to Ukraine. However, it was later revealed that France would only attempt to obtain 10 of the fighters for Ukraine.
