Russia is completing construction of hangars at the Ramenskoye airfield near Moscow, according to satellite images published by analysts at the AviVector group .
According to experts, they are most likely intended for testing Tu-22M3, Tu-95 and Tu-160 bombers.
At the same time, "Military" recalled that the first new construction was recorded in March 2026. The first building measures 100 × 230 × 33 m and contains separate hangars approximately 77 m wide. The dimensions of its extension are 17 × 220 × 8 m, and the second building is 90 × 220 m. The publication notes that the dimensions of the first building appear too large to simply accommodate bombers. Each section, approximately 77 meters wide, exceeds the maximum wingspan of a Tu-160 by approximately 21 meters. At the same time, its depth of 100 meters is almost 46 meters longer than the aircraft. The overall height of the structure is 33 meters, approximately 2.5 times the height of the largest missile carrier. This additional space may be needed for repair and modernization work using cranes, work platforms, etc.
"The road connects the construction site to the Gromov Flight Research Institute, but there is no connecting road for aircraft to access the runway. The images also show hangars made of standard metal structures with lightweight roofs. Such structures provide no protection against potential drone or missile attacks," adds Militarny.
The publication noted that the Ramenskoye airfield is located in Zhukovsky, Moscow Region, and is part of the test complex of the Mikhail Gromov Flight Research Institute. It is used for experimental, state, and civil aviation. Zhukovsky International Airport, opened in May 2016, also operates from this airfield.
"The airfield is also used by aircraft manufacturing companies' test units. Specifically, Sukhoi's base in Zhukovsky participated in Su-57 testing, while the Yakovlev complex conducts certification tests of the MS-21 and the new Superjet, which feature Russian engines and systems. Meanwhile, the Tupolev subsidiary, which has its own production, laboratory, and testing facilities, is testing prototypes and upgraded Tu-160M, Tu-95MS, and Tu-22M3 aircraft," Militarnye reports.
Another hypothesis suggests that the new structures may be part of an expansion of the exhibition complex, whose pavilions are located next to the construction site. The International Aviation and Space Salon, founded in Zhukovsky in 1993 and held every two years at the Gromov Flight Research Institute airfield, was held here.
"To host the air show, a permanent exhibition complex was created at the airfield, covering over 42 hectares: over 40,000 square meters were allocated for pavilions and exhibition chalets, and over 45,000 square meters were allocated for open-air technology displays. This proximity suggests that the new structures could be part of an expansion of the exhibition complex," the article emphasizes

Video Summary
AI GeneratedSatellite images reveal that Russia is completing new hangar construction at the Ramenskoy Airfield near Moscow. While the structures' massive dimensions suggest they may be used for the repair and modernization of strategic bombers like the Tu-160 and Tu-95, their proximity to existing pavilions suggests they could also be an expansion of the local aviation exhibition complex.
